Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm going to turn into a crisp one of these days. Someone needs to stop me. In my defence though, I'm fuelling myself for the massive bush trimming bonanza :D

I've got to get the strimmer out myself today. Not looking forward to the task as I'm far from a gifted gardener and precision is difficult for those of us with poor fine motor skills but will reap the rewards of my Ranchero bearing other half's appreciation. Bush tidying and crisps are closely linked.

What I can't get my head around is people not wearing masks. Like if you were to actually ask someone, why are you not wearing one? More than likely you would get a ridiculous answer with the gravity of what we're dealing with. I asked a fella in work yesterday was he wearing one and he said no. He's a sound fella and this was just an open chat we were having and he said I guess a lot of Irish people are kind of shy about it. People need to drill it into their heads, at the minimum wear a mask. Wash your hands regularly. And if you wear the right kind of mask it can not only stop you spreading it but it can stop you getting it. There's a good article in the guardian this week explaining all the ins and outs of mask wearing, what's the most sensible type to wear and when to wear etc. The only valid reason for not wearing one is if you have breathing problems.

It's very strange. Okay some people simply can't wear them due to medical issues (although I'm anxious and my mum has asthma and manage just fine), but that's the case with anything. 95% of people who won't wear one simply don't want to do it. People do strange and risky things in their social lives all the time, but wear a face covering in a global pandemic? No thanks. I honestly think much of it is not wanting to stand out, which is a sad thing.

I think a lot of people are clinging on to life as it was. Change and uncertainty can be very scary. Masks represent that. Our emotional selves can speak louder than logic.

There is also I'm sure an element of being scared to stand out. I think that's sad too but in a feeling way not in a pathetic way.

I get you. But we've all been through profound change these past few months. At the height of lockdown things people are already taking for granted again were well beyond reach. Preventing the virus leads to less lives lost and less damage to the economy. If we'd all done these things back in Feb/March maybe it could have been a different story. Now we've had the worst of all worlds. But we are where we are and that normal life is getting back on track. Personally I find face coverings more reassuring than the infantile social distancing thing which people only follow if they feel like it and can't really be policed.

Indeed. We all have our own personal experiences of this. Its important to have a bit of compassion for the fear which some are feeling.
I know a number of people who have been pushed to the edge of their mental health and who have irrationally associated mask wearing with their lives and the world disintegrating.

Isn't it true that we never know the struggles of another?

Absolutely. But I'm afraid most people against masks have no such issues, they're the most confident people you could meet, they just don't want to do it. The Scottish government have taken the decision out of their hands.

There is no doubt a bunch of people who just don't care.

If you'd told me a year ago I would be voluntarily wearing a mask to work I'd have laughed at you. Likewise walking a round trip of 1.5 hours to work to avoid public transport - something I'd always said I'd like to do occasionally, but never did!

Just getting ready to head off with my OH for a long drive into Connemara - to make the most of the good weather today. Kylemore Abvey and maybe a spin around Clifden and Roundstone. :)

Still thinking of yesterday in Achill. Got some great photos of the stunning scenery. So glad to have taken the weekend break down in Mayo.

Sitting in the garden wondering if someone will come and trim the hedges here too :pac:

But the sun has come out again, so reading my book and hungry and having an inner dialogue about going to cook something for dinner or just eat a packet of biscuits.

    just not able today :o

As I fell asleep in the back garden last night searching the sky for movement, maybe I saw Jack Charltons spirit ascend. Sitting at the laptop in the kitchen. Suppin some beers listening and looking at tributes to the man. A little bit of sadness inside me. I would love to be having a few pints in the pub with my Dad this evening chatting about the great memories. Alas the poxy dose prevents it.

    RIP Jack.:(

Sitting outside a shop, barefoot, in beautiful Clifden, Connemara. Having a ciggie...

Stunning drive down from Castlebar through West Mayo and into County Galway, through the villages of Leenane and Letterfrack. Weather is simply stunning.

I'm so very happy we decided to pick this weekend for a break. :)

Only one problem, along Sky Road, trying to get the perfect photo of the breathtaking landscape, I inadvertently stepped into a marshy patch of blanket bog and soaked my boots!!

Found out off the vet Harry is only four to five weeks old and that he definitely would have died had we not taken him. It was his lucky day my missus came along. He's de-fleaed and wormed now. She said the flea sprays in the shop would be too strong for him so to bring him on out. All free of charge. She's such a lovely vet. A genuine animal lover. It's a real vocation for her and we're very lucky to have her as our vet. She's actually from your neck of the woods bf....well not exactly your neck .. she's from east Germany but Germany all the same. :)

Crime and politics mainly I'd say but I'm extremely picky. I can go ages without loving a show then it just hits me in the face. Faves are Line of Duty, Killing Eve and Bodyguard in recent times. Like a bit of Derry Girls too. Luther, House of Cards...you get the picture :D Oh and how could I forget Curb your Enthusiasm. So yeah...pretty mainstream but also quite narrow as so many things bore me.
