Hair Salon - Price Gouging

So it seems like the lockdown has finally ended and we are now in an era of businesses trying to recover lost profits as soon as possible.

Either legally or illegally - whatever works!!

A friend had the unlucky experience of visiting Greystones hair salon <Mod Edit: Snip> on Sunday with the expectation of paying the advertised price of 50 or 60 euro for a treatment only to be told when they sat down that there was an extra unspecified 10 euro charge.

No information regarding what the extra charge was and when queried, the unhelpful stylist was as unhelpful to the point of being ultra rude and defensive.

Let's hope this is not the future of local business as we move forward.

What are you claiming is illegal?

If true then your friend should have walked out, it is that simple.

The legality of false advertising is well established in the Consumer Protection Act 2007. This protects consumers from misleading or false advertising (including putting up incorrect pricing on a business website)

Your assertion that the friend should just have walked out gives rise to continued exploitation by local business in this area. Especially if the friend/customer was/is a vulnerable person.

In this regard, the claims are valid and I don't believe that you need to censor the name of the salon as they can be named and shamed else where without moderation.

What are you on about with the "continued exploitation" nonsense.
If your friend was able to walk in on her own two feet, she could have turned around and walked out again too, so spare us the "vulnerable person" guff.

Your post has not been deleted so I am sure that anyone reading it will ask pertinent questions regarding pricing when booking an appointment to get their hair done.

I think this thread has run its course.
