Barry grew up in an Ireland that if you were somebody like a TDs son or brother the laws of the land didn't apply to you, sure he didn't even bother to get his full license. Usely things like this would disappear after a week or so but not any more. I didn't see it as a big deal myself he got caught he tried to get out of it like we all do, he did his time move on. I think he would have made a good ag minister. A good country lad.
Yep, the arrogance and entitlement grown from nepotism of the ruling class..where he "inherited" his seat from his failed brother, who had "inherited" the seat from his dead father.

Maybe u can blame the public for voting for these families, but the party selectors dont leave much choice.

Hopefully, family history, nepotism may be seen more for what it is, generating this toxic arrogance and entitlement, many steps removed from the regular ordinary decent people and their needs.

I told my son I had a tractor licence. I've never driven one in all my years living in Dublin.
Missed my opportunity when you were all up blocking me going to work:)

Maybe Buford will give me a lesson on his John Deere if I call over to him :D

Should have told MM to shove it where the sun don’t shine in my opinion..

He's proven he's more interested in the office and salary than the country. If he wanted to serve the country he would have taken the first job he was offered.

Seen him walking after M martin the day he was elected leader, smug looking head on him looks like a right lick arse. Obviously he didn't do enough lick arsing because he didn't get the gig, no pride in the man at all to take it now.

Apparently he does not come from a farming background but a lot of his constituents are farmers.

Time will tell if he has the farmers interests at heart.

After the Shakey start from this government, I thought they wouldn't last a year. Now I don't think they'll last till Christmas.

    A disgrace of a government.

These ould functions are the way these big nobs do business, Arse licking and back slapping, it's how businesses is done and big jobs are handed out, some red faces around today I would say, a few years ago this would have been talked about for a few days a few apologies made a few pints in the Dail bar and all forgotten about in a few days but now heads are rolling, great day for the average joe soup.

Pippa Hacket would be an obvious choice seen as she's already in the department. The anti green crowd would lose their shít here though if it happened.

Geography is against him, surely they won't leave west of the Shannon without a senior minister after initially doing it and most likely this government won't see the Taoiseach rotate for a full reshuffle.

Possibly Charlie mcconalogue in Donegal if they promote a junior minister or Mark McSharry if it's a backbencher.

If storm Ellen's is followed by a Beast from the East in hell causing it to freeze over and Micheal slips on the resulting ice and bangs his head Eamon o cuiv mimight have an outside chance.

Apart from that there's very few FF TD's left in the right part of the country.

There's my point proven! Though you are correct that she did not get elected, what a crazy notion that an actual farmer might get the post. Might as well give it that eejit Ryan so. ;) Wasn't that what all the hysterical Facebook farming groups were afraid of happening?

I find it strange that any politician or member of the judiciary would compromise themselves by such actions.
Under these type of circumstances apology after being found out is rather feeble.

FF as a force is gone. Older generation disenfranchised with them, younger generation never with them in the first place. FG have a spot as centre/ right no real competition there, FF would have been centre / left, with labour that but further but both have lost identity and Sinn Fein gaining ground there as the only competition on the left are the other whingers et al over there.
In for a long period of bollixing around with feck all being done at a bad time for the next few years I'd say

It's the cheek of them to preach to others to adhere to the guidelines and then blatantly break them all themselves. I can not understand how no one had the cop on to call a halt to it. I wonder how long the even had been planned for. People after losing loved ones who couldn't say a proper good bye. Weddings cancelled and yet it's fine to go on a 2 day piss up with 80 others.

I don't think the ambassador for Morocco would be inclined to have a drink.

He was in Kilkenny. He was wise when he heard that there was a likely Kildare lockdown coming and went to Kilkenny from his overnight stay in hospital where he was getting some checks.

    Stupid isn't it.

But the little person always focuses on the smaller picture.

Bigger picture. With the European minister for trade present, the agricultural minister and the Moroccan ambassador it was more than likely pre planned for serious business to be done to benefit the country and farming Ireland Inc.

Little person would like Richard Boyd Barrett in charge of this country. Be careful what ye wish for.

Looks like you get your information from Fakebook or some trashy rag that ignores facts.

Yes it was a golf outing - like many golf outings that have been taking place all over the country.

The second night there was a dinner in two separated rooms with a total of 81 people. The advice changed last tuesday that larger gatherings of 50 should no longer take place, but it was advice and not a regulation. Very little publicity was given to this change and as is usual with the current government, it was confusing in the least. Restaurants can have 60-70 people if they have the space, but you can't have a group meal??? - try work that one out.

The hotel itself claimed that by having it split between 2 different and separated rooms, it conformed to regulations. Grey area, but would be hard to argue against it.

The problem was that gov members should follow the advice they are giving in order to set an example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,297 ✭✭✭✭Nekarsulm

According to the Irish Independent, it was one room that the hotel reckoned they could put a partition up the middle off, and call it "room A" and "room B", as a dodge to allow them hold the function...

The falling aspect is when you have a Supreme Court Judge present, who apparently was involved in drafting the "lockdown" legislation 3 days earlier.

Don't see a problem with Phil he wasn't there the day before writing the rules and talking about them on the radio the day before. That's the problem with the ag minister he was on radio that morning talking about new regs and young people and house parties, talking out 2 sides of his gob.
