Grenfell tragedy and the construction industry

Reading through a BBC article on the Grenfell Tower inquiry and this line really jumped out at me:
The hearing was also told Clare Barker (a senior fire engineer) was under "huge time pressure" when a safety strategy was produced in 2012.

Now, there were likely a range of issues that eventually led to the tragedy, but working as a professional in the construction industry, it's only a matter of luck that there are not more Grenfell type disasters occurring.

This may come across as a moan, but as a senior chartered professional in construction, the entire industry is simply broken. Overworked, underpaid engineers, architects, site managers are under incredible pressure to deliver with ever tightening budgets.

It's inevitable that mistakes will be made in such working environments and without serious change, the mistakes will continue.

You'd hope that the inquiry will change things. Will it fcuk.

If some people end up going to prison Id imagine there will be a chilling effect right across anyone working in fire safety.

The engineer in question is saying they were under huge time pressure to sign it off and while Im aware of the MO of the construction industry the buck has to stop somewhere. Not saying its with her but there are 73 people dead here so if fire safety wasnt carried out properly justice has to be done.
