My Son is looking at AUDI A3 1.8T Petrol 2007.... 138k ....Would welcome any feedback, good or bad and what to look out for? Thanks

I would check with the insurance comapny before buying. What age is your son and does he have a no claim bonus.

I suggest dropping petrol engine requirement from the list and aim for large saloons with reliable diesel engines which fits into your budget.

    Toledo/Rapid are narrower than octavia.

    Rapid : 1706 mm
    Octavia (pre-2013): 1769 mm
    Suberb(pre-2013) : 1817 mm

Has to be petrol as it's mostly short journeys,
    Cheers in advance.

Short jouneys and a diesel engine does not sould like a good mixture to me.

Just wanted to report back, I took on the advice given in the thread ref how many people would be in the car at any given time (a van was a non runner) so went with something smaller than the Octavia. I picked up a 142 Skoda Rapid space back. The rear seating area is bigger than the standard Rapid but the car is shorter. It's 1.2 TSI , 105 BHP, panoramic roof, sat nav and air con so it's grand , herself has mostly been driving it. It seemed decent bang for buck for what else was available so thank you to everyone that replied with recommendations. I'll look into changing the Verso next year so might get my Octavia then lol.

Quick one the car did not come with a spare tyre , just the sealant and a compressor in the foam insert. The car currently has 215/45R17 on it, afaik the same spare does the Fabia & Toledo, are these something a tyre centre would have handy or is it a case of main dealer to get the kit?

Scrap Yard if its common to both makes it may be a common VW wheel as well. Depending on the tyre and whether an alloy or ordinary rim 50-100 euro

Yeah might give Sweeney's a bell during the week and suss it out, same spare is standard across them cars afaik, don't know why people wouldn't take the spare as an extra when buying a car over the sealant and compressor?

    Try Adverts.ie also
Normally there are a few people there selling space saver wheels and quite often they are brand new but a fraction of the new price

[EDIT]Actually, just found one which is basically the same as your 215/45/17
It's a 125/70/16 which works out to the same diameter as your own
They have it listed for €60, but seems they can get other sizes too
Might be worth a buzz depending where you're located. They list various Skoda/VW models etc and even though it doesn't have the Rapid listed, it should work also[/EDIT]

185/60 R15 tyre mounted on a 6Jx15 ET38 rim, with a bolt pattern of 5x100 is the spare for the car from searching around
