Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I can't stand people like that. Careerists who fawn to their superiors while sh*tting on their colleagues and inferiors in their efforts to climb the ladder at work. I consider them two faced phonies.

Are you one of these people who lick arse to get ahead? Or do you know/have any stories to tell about your experiences with them?

In my job its called crawling. Ive seen many do it to get ahead. My opinion if somebody wants to suck cock (I work with men so the saying suck cock in my workplace is the ultimate insult )to get ahead I say let them its there dignity their selling. My pet hate is when the person who crawled still thinks his one of the lads. I believe people should be promoted on merit. But my principles only matter to me and since i'm content with myself i've no interest in promotions

I usually speak up if I see any bs at work. I have a feeling my boss thinks it's class because they always call me and ask for advice about stuff. I've told them that they're behaving irrationally a lot of times.

I'm not a brown noser I just work hard. But I've been called a brown noser in a couple different jobs by work shy dopes annoyed by someone putting in a bit of effort to be successful.

In my experience the brown noses get more work without the extra pay and recognition.

I do what I'm paid to do and keep my head down if volunteers are requested to do extra.

I'm a man and I love licking pussy, and I think if I was a woman I'd love licking pussy also.
So whose pussy wants licking? And don't worry I don't want a promotion to lick pussy. I'll do that for free?

I have nothing against brown nosers. That is their way of getting around in the world...who knows why they developed that skill set.

But i prefer to be respected and i also like a professional distance between myself and employers.

I am not standoffish or anything ..im lovely.

Those sorts of people are in most workplaces.....unfortunately it does seem to progress careers...at least it does with us. Always seems to take precedence over experience and ability from what I've seen.

I'd consider myself as very good at my job, anything I do is done thoroughly and accurately....and I know the job inside out. But i'm not a natural people person (the best way I can put it) . I get on with people but It takes me time to become friendly with anyone and I keep it to strictly business until I'd get to that stage, if at all.

One of my peers was the complete opposite.....was a lazy bas**** in my opinion, let issues happen on his watch and didn't do any actual work. It was an ongoing joke that he did most Of his work on PowerPoint as he was always putting slides together on things rather than do his real job....but then he had the persona that he could talk and talk, and get on with senior management like they were besties.....and guess what....he got promoted into a job he wasn't qualified for. One guy in that team who also applied and would have had the knowledge and experience actually left the company beacuse of the whole thing

As the saying goes.....it's not what you know it's who you know.

No and I couldn't bring myself to do it. Work with plenty of the types. I do my job, kick as and take names and jog on. Having said that CEOs/company owners/high level management are often psychopaths and they love flattery so maybe brown nosing is the way forward.

First they came for the socialists...

I'm not a brown noser in the sense that I don't work with people in-person. I'm self employed and contract remotely. So I never see anyone. But a few people do the same job I do. And if i get someone else's work by doing the job better, or faster or whatever, i'll pull the rug out from under them every single time. If I can undercut someone who's robbing them blind, I'll do it (won't undercut people charging fair prices though).

'cos I know it'll happen to me, too.

If I worked in an office I'd be 'one of the lads' but if i wanted to get ahead or get promoted I'd make it clear to all involved that I'll kick the legs from under them at a moment's notice. They'd do the very same themselves. At least if you're honest and up front about it, everyone knows where they stand.

I’ve nothing against an employee with ambition, with career goals, once they enable those goals by coming to work, doing a good days work, being a TEAM player and not dragging others into nonsense situations by volunteering to take on extra work that is outside of their job description and scope of employment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,781 ✭✭✭Motivator

Unfortunately I work with some of the worst I’ve ever come across. All managers fall over themselves to get a pat on the top of the head from the main boss. The funny thing is he doesn’t give a toss about any of them. They’re a number to him and they’re seen as cogs in the machine, a machine who’s only job is to give him what he wants. In any other company 90% of these clowns would have been shown the door years ago but the main boss has got to always be right so he keeps his minions very close by because no matter what he says or does, they’ll agree. Seeing grown men and women turfing young lads under the bus to make themselves look better. It’s pathetic.

The fake friendships each of them has with the head guy is comical. I keep myself to myself, do my job and don’t engage with any of the pretend niceties.

There's a few gannets and jocks in my place, they might as well be digging worms from a dung heap with their noses they Brown nose so much...

It's supposedly showing initiative and exceptional interest to cowtou to management.
Working unpaid overtime to get target's in a job you applied for and suggested to the interviewer you're able for the job description and can get it done in 40 hour's a week.
While in reality you're a stupid bellend who's wasting electricity and water just for a pat on the back.
While in reality your boss has more time for the rogue who's at the clock machine at 5 to 5, 5 day's a week and has a surfboard on his car heading to Lahinch on a warm September evening.

While the useless staff have to stay on because they're unable to get their work done.

A sure sign of undermining your employer and your own integrity...

Hate them. I really think there's something wrong with you if you need to brown nose to get ahead, and something even worse wrong with you if you walk all over your supposed colleagues to get ahead. As noted, the brown nosers always get promoted, but the vast majority of them I wouldn't put in charge of watching a kettle boil. Luckily, working nights on a small team of 5, with a newly appointed TL who's still not fully transitioned from colleague to management (and he admits himself he's finding it hard to change), I don't have to deal with it much. Still get all the emails from the day team, which includes the brown nosing.

I was promoted to "Tier 2" support in my last job, which was basically the step below Team Leader. I lasted about 6 months before I was about to quit, but luckily they made us redundant. Myself and TL had many a chat about how I wasn't "stepping up" and becoming management material. And she was right, I'm not management material, because I can't sugar coat stuff, which is apparantly required in order to talk to upper management. And there was me thinking honesty is better than BS. Nope. Didn't help it was an American based company, and by jesus do they like to circle jerk each other, instead of dealing with the actual issues. I won't be going for promotion again, unless it's lateral and doesn't put me in charge of people.

There is a big difference from a person who works hard and achieved his promotions on his merit with hard work. I've seen this happen maybe three times in over 21years. To be fair these people make great bosses. I've seen a fair few brown noses get promoted and within a few weeks the unions are in over something or other. The browners are always given the ridiculous jobs because they can't say no to their bosses. I find the people who make it on merit are more practical. That's just the way I see it.

Mentoring (is what the boss does); brown-nosing (is what his lapdog does).

    Absolutely.

I know laymen and laywomen who can run ring's around people with degree's etc

    Especially where marketing is concerned.

Marketing theses days is tacky, lacks creativity and emotional impact.

It's a lot of dullards posting stupid photos of nothing on social media, not poetic clichés or captions which touch the heart or inner soul.

Just absolute soulless shoite that has zero selling points or an advantage to the product or potential buyer's.

I remember the advertising year's ago and it had a human touch.
Now it's all bullsh1T, stupid decisions, people not doing any market research, nothing sensory.

There's people in marketing positions in companies in Ireland and through their brown nosing.

I've experienced a marketing team who are posting on Instagram, Facebook etc and it's pure shoite, nothing to do with the product just their own interpretation of their own dull lifestyle.

And these people are getting huge salaries to come up with this rubbish.

I would be diplomatic but not brown nose. At this point in my career I'm paid to say it straight and honestly. I've worked for a couple of companies where brown-nosing was a thing. One US multinational one major Irish company. People promoted on basis of who they knew above them in the pecking order. It never works. You end up with clones of previous management in senior positions who are unable to adapt to new challenges because they have learned not to think for themselves.

As a general rule I advise people in the mid stage of their career to avoid companies with strong graduate recruitment programmes. They tend to be the worst for brown nosing as you end up with lifers who came into the organisation in their early 20s and after 20 years of brown nosing and sweet talking they have been promoted way beyond their natural ability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Absolutely not. I detest it when I see it other. The sad thing is though it works and I would be taking away an advantage from myself by not engaging in it. But at least I have my dignity.

I've seen two individuals, twice recently, end up prompted beyond thier natural ability.

One ended up being nearly worked to death and having to attend his doctor with stress and insomnia.

The other , brown nosed his way into a position, telling tales and lies ultimately ended up being "sent to Coventry " by his colleagues. The stress of his position ended up with him being hospitalised with blood pressure and chest pains.
