NPHET and the Government appear to have lost any trust a large percentage of the Irish public had in them, the green list fiasco just another in a very long line of farcical things they imposed on us, where does this madness end.

I agree. I think they have not handled this well. The rest of Europe is moving on and learning to live with this virus but we are being forced to stay put. I’m very compliant with regard to the rules regarding masks, social distancing and hand sanitising but am getting really annoyed at being told not to travel to places that are no bigger a risk than being here.

Or Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

What is the likelihood of Hungary being removed from Ireland’s green list shortly, given that they are banning tourists travelling into Hungary from next Tuesday 1 Sep? And how long will an Irish tourist in Hungary be given to fly home to avoid having to quarantine for 14 days on return?

Why would Hungary be taken off the green list? Its cases are the third lowest in Europe. The green list is based off the number of cases per 100,000. The individual countries entry requirements have no bearing on it.

Hungary had banned all foreign visitors for a month beginning September 01st.

Hungary had banned all foreign visitors for a month beginning September 01st.

Im still not sure how they can ban free movement of people from other EU States. And, even if they can, that has no bearing on the Irish green list.

We need to update government first. Then the green list will sort itself

It's an absolute joke.... the official page says the list gets updated on a fortnightly basis. it claims it was updated yesterday but the only change is a series of asterisks on certain countries to signal restrictions upon entering. No other change since 4th of Aug while infection numbers have changed materially across europe (and here) in that span. It's farcical at this point

    • Greece
    • Greenland

Inclusion on the list is based on the current epidemiological situation and related public health information in each location.

*Citizens considering travel to these locations should note the information below regarding restrictions on entry. These jurisdictions currently have quarantine requirements for arrivals from other jurisdictions, including Ireland.

The list will be reviewed on a fortnightly basis, based on advice from officials including public health experts.

I have just returned from Tenerife. Had to wear masks everywhere except when eating or drinking. If you had to go to the bathroom you had to wear a mask.
Nearly everyone was adhering to the practise. You got used to it after a day or 2.
On the beach people adhered to social distance. You didnt need to wear one while you lying on the beach but if you where walking along the beach you ad to wear one & the lifeguards were enforcing this.
    It felt so safe.
Flew with Ryanair had to wear a mask except if you were eating or drinking. There was only around 60 people on the flight so there was no problem moving seats for more room.

They don’t want to expand the list and will wait until Ireland is below others in terms of numbers (and we are under control) to then change it.

Well I've just boarded a flight to Italy and will be back before the list is due to be updated again. No restriction of movements for me, thanks green list.

All bars had to stop serving by 12.00 and closed by 1.00 enforced by police.
    No nightclubs open.

Not the first time Orban has been in trouble with the EU and won't be the last... He'd have to do a heck of a lot worse to get himself into serious trouble...

Hungary's cases per 100k is 10.7, Ireland's is about 3 times as much..

But it is a signal to other Member States. Ireland should not want to be lumped in with Hungary.

What is Lithuania like? I’m going to try do all green list countries in the next few months (except Greenland is too expensive). All others are dirt cheap even at weekends.

But Ireland has never shut a frontier.

Requiring the completion of a passenger locator form and advising people to limit their movements is as far as we've gone

Lithuania is a gem few have discovered. You can go to Vilnius or Kaunas, though you may find slightly more to do in Vilnius, certainly do Kaunas as a day trip if you get the chance.

Both cities have new and old cities with lots to explore and you will get an awful lot more bang for your buck than most of the rest of Europe.

But you have to self isolate for 14 days after your arrival there and they make sure you do it

    Lithuania -
Nothing like what I expected before I went. Great place to visit.

Palanga is a nice beach holiday resort. Nida is stunning. Both are on the west on the Baltic Sea. Although the weather for the beach will be gone soon, if not already.

There’s a nice area around Plateliai with lakes & forest parks. Trakai castle also looks great but never been.

But ya unfortunately there is a quarantine in place & I reckon they might be a bit stricter than us about it.

I know. But the head cases want us to go further and aim for zero Covid even if that means that we lock people up for months and completely close our borders.

Vilnius is one of the nicest city's you could visit. Exceptionally clean. Beautiful women with Great architecture.

If you don't like walking bolt Scooter's are 10c a minute, the main Street is mostly closed to traffic so they are Ideal.

Qaurantine on arrival untill the 100k rate drops below 16 so its pointless as present. Hopefully EU countries will find common ground and open up without mandatory isolation.

Wow, sounds great, I've not been to Lithuania yet but like Hungary they've decided to seal off the country until they've no new infections, very sad..

Our esteemed Health Minister on the green list:

"If we essentially pegged the countries that qualify to our own rate, we would have something perverse happening, which is as the prevalence of COVID increased in Ireland, we would be opening ourselves up to more and more countries with high rates of COVID," Stephen Donnelly told the Newstalk radio station.

"If we were simply to do that, it would self-evidently lead to a higher spread of the virus in the country. That's why we have it under review at the moment."
