Absolutely. Take a time out and let it implode.

This is a shambles from the get go.

    And so it continues.

"Fianna Fáil TD says he 'deeply regrets' writing letter for CAB target brothers" from independent. Cannot post link due to new user.

A couple nasty individuals by all accounts defended by a FF TD. The bar for whats acceptable in public office is genuinely getting lower by the day. Anyone that believes the culture in FF has changes is deluded.

Seems that between Barry Cowen and Joe oFlaherty TD that Fianna Fail are involved in criminality. We shouldn't be surprised after their last time in power when they robbed the public to pay the banks.
he said he outed him because he denied it, why would a fianna fail member be upset with a (fianna fail) politician lying?
why would he out him like that?

Because thats the way these party hacks operate, they battle for their party in public, they defend the indefensible with lies and spin ad nauseum about them online on forums like here. But behind the closed doors they are the fastest people to backstab one of their own party members and leak stories to cause damage.

those post were referring to Ken McFadden not Thomas Byrne, Ken McFadden is not acting behind closed doors tonight

I think that the legislation is framed correctly and just as well.

It's best that you don't need to be drunk to be considered guilty of an offence.

He was deemed drunk. Too drunk to be driving.
Anyway that's just were the story begins.

Eh, he repeatedly broke the law on the way to and from the national legislature? Do you not see the issue here?
FFS, is there nothing more important to you than this minor balderdash?

It's not like he's the first or last person to do something stupid.

There have been far bigger crimes which politicians have gotten away with.
Also go have a look at the awarding of state contracts over the last thirty years. You'll see Fine Gael supporters getting them over the last ten, FF ones getting them before then, PD supporters getting some when they were in government.
The Anglo-Irish thing and a minister in that government is now Taoiseach.

Cowen's misdeeds are very minor in the grand scheme of things. The fact that he was caught and bagged means he's not as ruthless as many other politicians who would never have ended up in court and off the road.

I think because Byrne tried to come across as not caring about ministerial positions tonight, that he was happy with any role he was given.

McFadden clearly thinks this isn't the case.

Id have thought that was a fairly standard public stance to take, no?

Sports people, actors etc do the same.

Hes hardly going to go on a rant on TV saying he was shafted and deserved a ministry is he?

Again FFers trying to shut down discussion by attacking the poster, It is getting tiresome now, if you dont want to discuss it on a literal discussion board then you know what to do
There have been far bigger crimes which politicians have gotten away with.

There certainly has been. One of the biggest crimes in Irish politics I can remember was Charlie Haughey being on a wage of IR£32,000 when he was Taoiseach but somehow he manged to buy the Abbeville Estate complete with Georgian Mansion and 80 acres in Kinsealy

How did he do that and was it because of the proceeds of crime? The figures just do not add up, it was later sold for 42 million euro. Sean Haughey TD benefited from it to the tune of a cool 9 million euro. In Fianna Fail circles the scams Charlie Haughey pulled are legendary,. And FF supporters look up to this stuff and seek to emulate it themselves.

But maybe CAB need to check to see if that 42 million of wealth that was generated from the sale of Abbeville related to the proceeds of crime?

Nothing to see here. Sure everyone was doing it. Why are we interested in this? Sure it was 7 years ago. We've enough to be worrying about.

And on and on and on and Ariston...

Was he drunk, or just over the legal limit for the license he had?

Is there a legal definition of drunk?

Now we know why SF were so quiet on Cowen. :D

Three times the limit and a 3 year ban

And arrested in 2018 for drunken abuse of a garda.

Seems they were hoping it would go away more than FF.

If the Thomas Byrne stuff is true, and I presume Ken McFadden (a Meath FF activist) can be believed, this is turning into a pantomime, the next FF parliamentary party meeting should be a bit of craic. Did Thomas have a few pints (many hours previously obviously) himself to be running crying to Ken at 1:30 in the morning. Keep your friends close, your enemies closer still.

And Allan Kelly voting in favour of letting Cowan away with no questions. Lots of glass houses it would seem.

Thomas Byrne, any time he came on the tonight show etc, to me anyway, always came across as a brown nosed lickspittle.

Wouldn't be surprised one iota if he was the snitch, I reckon it's just about his calibre alright.

All them years sent to Ballymount to be grilled by Yates, defend FFG to the hilt, attack the shinners no matter what, and then no ministerial role awarded?

Toys out of the pram, with a snitch grenade lobbed in amongst the FFers, Michaél and Barry taking all of the shrapnel.

There's a big difference in a whistleblower and someone snitching through jealousy or pettiness by the way.

Jim O'Callaghan would not answer direct questions about Cowen this morning on Newstalk.
He deliberately waffled his way around them but the presenters did not push it.
He was asked how Cowen was able to drive around on a provisional for 20 years and Jim talked about everything else but that.

The calibre of the TDs in our Dail really is a worry. Our political system is red rotten. FFG showing by example how it's done.

Just read the story about Buckley from SF.

As I said, the calibre of our TDs is something that needs to be analysed. It seems to get worse and worse.

It really does attract the dregs. Drink drivers, insurance scammers, fraudsters and liars.

The first sign that you shouldn't be a politician is that you want to be a politician.

so Ken McaFFaddan is so intent on bringing down Michael Martin because he didn't give a ministry to the people he wanted him to that he is willing to damage his local TD who he was complaining didn't get a ministry to do it!

This was reported at the time. He was about three times over the legal limit. However there was no mention in him been on a learners permit/provisional license in the media at the time.
He also had his incident verbally abusing the Garda.
I’m from Cork East and people would vote for anybody SF ran. However they are furious that FF has a drink driver in the Dail. It’s almost like they forget about the Pat Buckley incidents.

Sure isn't that the Fianna Fáil way. Strokes, skullduggery and backstabbing.

    Yes..

    This is it.

People need to treat all politicians and a TDs and PRs as people..

Take the fooking party hats off..

I am aligned to no party. We need to assess them and treat them all as people, and try to apply standards and morals equally to all.

Buckley should have been expelled from the party when this happened.

Could be down to local bragging rights, Meath East has had Regina Doherty and Helen McEntee as fairly high profile ministers for the last few years. Obviously Doherty has lost her seat but McEntee is Minister for Justice and has a car and driver now. Maybe this guy feels put out that his FF TD was overlooked for a big job. Who knows.
