Doubt creeping in everyday about wet pubs opening on the 10th Aug

Phase 4 happening as scheduled is in deep trouble and we saw its hard to trust the government.

Why do people love the pub?
Because they can drink alcohol there.

    Why do people love alcohol?
Because it is a mood altering drug.

Why is NPHET wary of full pub opening?
Because people will congregate indoors while imbibing a mood altering drug.

It's not a conspiracy to stop fun. Or to kill the rural pub. It's an effort to stop Covid 19 spreading.

Then why have they opened all over the globe

Ireland a nation renowned for pub life and were the only place to still have them closed

Sure similar crowds have been in places like Pennys and Woodies

If our daily average stays as is and R0 doesn't shoot up there's a good chance they will. If not I'd say after they get the schools resolved so it may even be as far away as October.

People don't usually drink alcohol in my local Woodies...dunno about the Penny's, though.

Well Italy has 60 million people so % wise its better than us.

Do pubs need a food license in Ireland?

Surprised more haven't just bought an electric cooker and a giant pot and served stew

Open the beer gardens if inside is too much... with a 90mins time frame and a tv to watch a match

Lads can sit in the bookies all day but the gov say if ya have a pint.... you must be in a cluster of c19

Nope no licence required. This was waved to reopen as restaurants and so the courts wouldn't get overhwelmed with restaurant licence requests

no food licence required. publicans were just trying do the right thing and not take the piss unfortunatly the government are making a an egit of them so the publicans will do exactly it throw out any fast food /curry/stew and charge 9 euro while giving a free drink with each purchased.

You still need the hse to check the area you're preparing/serving food in. You can't just whip out a cupasoup and a lidl sandwich for €9

Perhaps geography or maths wasn't your strong point, Italy has 12 times the population, so that it is about half of the rate here today.

As for pubs there needs to big increase in inspection and some body of people to do it other than Gardai, any pub taking the piss needs to be closed, this isn't funny.

There are food requirements in New York.

    https://eu.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/politics/albany/2020/07/17/bars-new-york-need-sell-food-serve-booze-what-know/5458017002/

I would not be surprised if there are elsewhere as other countries already had existing laws relating to food being needed with alcohol. The laws here have been in place for over 50years.

Cuomo suspends liquor licenses for 12 NYC bars over 'egregious' COVID-19 violations
The violations in the 12 bars included a lack of social distancing, inadequate spreading out of tables, a lack of facial coverings among customers and employees, failure to sell food with alcohol as required and extending outdoor service beyond the city’s 11 p.m. curfew.

    EDIT: found another

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8550183/California-lists-foods-arent-meals-COVID-dining-guidelines.html
California's Alcoholic Beverage Control agency has issued guidelines on what constitutes as a 'meal'
It comes after Governor Gavin Newsom reversed reopening measures last month by ordering all bars to shut
While bars are closed, restaurants can still offer outdoor dining across the state
Cheese sticks, fried calamari, chicken wings, pizza bites, egg rolls and pot stickers do not count as meals, according to the list

    https://www.aarp.org/politics-society/government-elections/info-2020/coronavirus-state-restrictions.html

Michigan: Whitmer also ordered bars in most regions to stop indoor service because of the rise in coronavirus cases. The mandate applies to food establishments that earn more than 70 percent of their gross receipts from alcohol sales
Florida: As cases spiked in the state, Halsey Beshears, secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, on June 26 ordered bars that derive more than 50 percent of their sales from alcohol to stop selling alcohol for on-premises consumption

I doubt the dumps trying to flout restrictions have a great record with Health and Safety and its regulations.

    Why?

Any chance you could elaborate, or are you simply projecting without any concept of nuanced discussion?

in my opinion i don’t think pubs should open as the schools will be opening only 2 weeks later and we would be opening up too many things i think the schools should be given priority. just my opinion.

Nearly everything else is opened up so pubs should be opened on Aug 10th

They should have been open six months ago. Nothing should have been closed.

This was overreach by a totalitarian (and unelected) junta. The so-called government now is barely elected either.

Please get psychological evaluation if you honestly believe that by opening everything 6 months ago would have been ok

Martin says they wont make a decision until after the NPHET meeting on Tuesday. Its a ****ing joke, that have been given no guidelines and are expected to have staff rehired 5 days before they open. The whole industry has been treated appallingly and been set up as the fall guy when cases rise.

If pubs aren’t open people can buy their mood altering juice in an off license. If they can’t socialise in a public house they invite people to their house, as seen by the house party in Killarney. No social distancing in a house.

If the govt blocks pubs opening on Aug 10th. The Vintners should release a statement that all pubs are reopening. Is the govt going to close down every pub in Ireland?

I've bad news for you, there's off on Holidays now for 6 weeks. That means no pubs and they'll be able to dodge the media until 2 weeks into schools reopening.
I'm very surprised people aren't revolting, suppose it's hard when your wearing a muzzle.
Pubs will be about the 14th of September I reckon.
