Its clear some people don't give a ****, TBH the pubs can only do so much, people need cop on but if they don't care.

Went past a pub today near the foot of the Dublin mountains.

Big groups probably 30-40 people having pints in the sun. All very nice but unless that was all a single family / group WTF are people at....

    Gas masks.....yehhhh

Agreed they're all the same so none should be open gyms or beaches (if this is as serious as we are led to believe).

I feel sorry for the non food pubs who can't open while pubs that don't abide by the rules get to stay open..hardly fair.

I'm even seeing it in restaurants, after a while the masks are down and in some cases off.

How else are they going to eat their "substantial" €9 meal that protects them from covid 19.....

yes theres no difference between a well run pub without food and one that does

I'd feel more comfortable if the staff weren't wearing masks. Similar to how I'd prefer staff behind deli counters not to wear gloves. PPE is no substitute for good hygiene, and people are more likely to take good hygiene seriously if they're not wearing ****e PPE on their hands or face.

I rang round a few of the opened pubs here earlier . None had any availability for tonight. Bank holiday celebrations must be in full swing.

Think I know which pub you're on about. Live music there last night by the sounds of it with the doors firmly shut at half ten. No covid worries in there!

I was hopeful until this weekend. But now I’m not so sure. I think the way they have been treated is so unfair. On July 20th they should have just been told to stay shut until the schools were open and we see how that goes. As other people go back to work and come off it bar workers could be kept on the Covid payments until then. This kicking the can down the road and will they or won’t they give the nod, nobody knows is ridiculous. You can’t run a business like that.

I fear that the Aug 10th opening is gone for now, based on the noises being made over the last few days. I imagine it will just be kicked down the road again for another 6 weeks or so, to align with any potential spike from the schools.

I think that it is very unfair on publicans, but I cannot see any other outcome at this stage.

Independent reporting today that the last few days has given the confidence of the 10th a little hit but there does appear to be a compromise coming, rural pub and urban pubs to operate under different guidelines, cant compare the two in terms of operation, an earlier closing time of 11 / 11.30 also seems to be part of the compromise.

Government sources as ever leaking stuff out, its a no to nightclubs as expected but pubs are expected to reach a compromise to open. That decision might not be made Tuesday though, cabinet may wait until later in the week which would probably see pubs not being able to get everything in order so by making a late decision it could push them out a week technically

I hate to be political, but this sounds so much like FF floating some stupid gombeen-like proposal. We lost our economy last time they thought they were smarter than everyone else, we'll lose our health and our economy this time if this virus is left out of its cage.

There's this idea being floated that rural pubs are all little shebeens up the back of a mountain with two people drinking in them, and as a consequence they are low risk to reopen.

Looking like they are going to prioritise school opening, hints already nigh clubs etc won't be opening, hewrt goes out to rural pubs, my own village had 6 12 years ago, 2 before lockdown, 0 I fear if this goes on much longer. I get the reasoning but doesn't make it any the more palatable. I don't drink so just an objective opinion.

Know of a few pubs in my local town that to get around the restrictions are now serving pizza from the chipper next store and never previously served food and the hour and half restriction is not been obeyed at all and no real social distancing. While other pubs are obeying the rules and not opening, which is completely unfair on them. Also 4 pubs have closed in the town for good as well. Must be very frustrating for the owners that are obeying the rules and not opening up to see other pubs flouting the rules and making a killing.

It’s probably fair enough, although I’m sure as an urban pub owners you’d be furious. I live in Dublin and there’s buckets of restaurants, food serving pubs, and activities near me open - if you’re in a very small town and there’s nowhere to socialise or go on foot except the one pub that’s closed they should try to open them.

You do know they provide companionship only so it's possible to stay 2 metres apart.

A lot of the locals in Barcelona are blaming the opening of the clubs there for the clusters they’ve had, not much like our rural pub maybe but the bigger urban outlets would be a direct comparison.

We’re lucky that most people here aren’t pushing for clubs to open then, aren’t we.

should they close pubs which are acting like restaurants too ??. Whole things a mess with pubs getting the blame

The government will bribe publicans with supports so they will stay closed longer
