Its a poor reflection on Eamon Ryan but on a side note to this he should get a sleep study done. Falling asleep during the day like this at work or while watching tv might indicate he is suffering sleep apnea during his bedtime hours.
He looks overweight which plays into this and the falling asleep at his workplace has probably happened on several occasions but was only captured recently.

Ah would you get off the stage and cool the dramatics :D

I’m not that interested in Irish politics any more. There isn’t even any difference any more in the policies of FF and FG, and the Labour Party are kaput and the Greens will be back to being nobodies at the next election. So it’s not as if I’m a fan of Ryan. He’s a daft old hippy in fact.
But the propensity of onlookers to blow things out of all proportion is getting ridiculous now.

You are blowing things out of proportion I think.

There are still are said rooms and they are still used for the same purpose - was sent there the day after the Christmas party a few years ago.

That's gas, and it brings me back to a time when things weren't always so strict and Health and Safety and clocking in and out and all that.

Nostalgia always works in the rear view mirror.

As long as he woke up to reject it who cares?

Cool the dramatics, good one buddy. Very inventive. Just making an observation that this might be a cause of him falling asleep

Jesus everything is an outrage and a sackable offence now. Dozed off while they were droning on and on there. The Dail must be one of the most boring parliaments in the world.
The House of Commons is like feeding time at the zoo more or less all the time but JRM still managed to put the feet up and have a snooze. What about it?

It's not an outrage or a sackable offense, but if a waster was going into a turas nua meeting and fell asleep, it's almost expected, a senior politician and party leader should put in a bit of effort.

It’s more likely to be weed knowing Eamon.

    Oh, so you know him?

It’s more likely to be weed knowing Eamon.

Just a really odd accusation to make.

So you are saying that he was smoking weed before going into the Dail & thats why he fell asleep?

I guess a stooge just needs cast his vote. There was a time it was thought the Green's might keep FF/FG honest. Laughable I know.

God forbid that we should expect our very handsomely paid politicians to at least be conscious in work.

And if you were sacked for falling asleep you’d have a very good case for unfair dismissal.

You would if you were employed as a mattress tester, maybe.

Some reasons he might be falling asleep:

He is not getting enough proper sleep, some people require quite a bit more than others.

The ambient light/sound/air temperature are conducive to sleep.

He has an infection/inflammatory illness, which can lead to being dozy. (Covid test required :D )

I’m saying he has form for it that’s all

For smoking weed and going into the Dail?

That's quite an accusation - you should go to the papers with it if you have any proof

July 23rd I think is when the Green leadership vote takes place.
It night be a blessing in disguise tbh...Catherine Martin is much more impressive.

What an eejit. It's not a sacking offence though lol.

Just saying I wouldn’t be surprised IF that was the case. I know him since his bike shop days btw - he used to fall asleep in the bike shop as well. He’d be known for it

FFS, how much does he get paid. Is it really to much to expect him to at least stay awake for his money.

Works out at around €90 an hour apparently.
Had to be woken up to vote against paying people just over €12 ph - otherwise known as the Living Wage.

RTE might do him a favour and leave it out of the 9 News tonight.

Absolutely not. It would be gross negligence.

It's in my employment contract that its grounds for dismissal

Forgetting about Eamon Ryan - you seem to view smoking weed in a similar way to how devout old Catholic woman viewed out of wedlock sex back in the 60s.

Might also just be resting on his laurels.

    Kinda like the Seanad so.

Didn't Enda give an old ex a Seanad seat?

Perhaps they thought that since Dara Murphy never bothered his hole no Cork NC TDs had to - though I note according to that article they paid back expenses which is more than can be said for Murphy.

I also note Barry and O'Brien were 11 and 3 days short of the min attendance as they were campaigning in their constituency for Repeal. I can't speak of O'Brien but I can vouch that Barry was indeed campaigning for Repeal as I was there.
Murphy wasn't campaigning for squat. He was double jobbing and out of the country.

But if you are falling asleep at work there's something wrong somewhere, either the job isn't for you or there's stuff going on outside and coming to work is probably something you need to reconsider.

True, but it's a lot handier for a PS worker than someone in the private sector to go for.

In fairness to Ryan, falling asleep while the Soc Dem's Gary Gannon was indulging in some hardcore virtue signalling is fair enough - that kind of waffle would send me to sleep too. It isn't as though the motion that was being debated matters in the slightest. It's pure posturing.

At least this will publicise the fact he had to wake up to vote against a bill to give workers a living wage....

Catherine Martin can't take over soon enough for the greens I would say

The worst part is they woke him. He didn't deserve to have his vote counted.
