What's the most unusual 22lr or wmr ammo that you have fired. Some stuff only get to ireland once and when it's sold then,it's gone- never to get here again.

Not fired but would like to get my hands on some CCI stuff.CCI are doing .22 WMR shot. Be interesting to see what they can do.

Also they have brought out .22WMR segmented hollowpoint.

Never fired these but often wondered what they'd be like.

What use would they have J.R.. I would think they would have a trajectory like a rainbow.

I couldn't see any real benefit or use in an Irish context for using them, to be honest.

It's just out of curiosity more than anything else.

Also, as far as I can gather their accuracy depends a lot on the barrel rifling.

I would just be interested to test them to see the results....having so much lead bullet looks unusual....wonder if it would make any difference whatsoever to knock down power.

The rate of twist wouldnt be right for them, you would need a firearm with a barrel with the correct rate of twist and you could only shoot them out of it then. They wont stabalise out of a normal barrel because the rate of twise is too slow so they will just tumble and keyhole.

I just ran the numbers vs a RWS Subsonic both zeroed at 50, the Aguila dropped an extra inch at 100, 9 low vs 10. The 60 grainer had 86 ft/lbs of energy compared with 62 ft/lbs of the RWS.

If power is the main focus one would be stepping up to a Velocitor/RWS HV

First they came for the socialists...

John Lambert in Camolin Co Wexford had them. Great for boiler room shots on foxes at 70-80 m.
They keyhole worse from different barrels but they have hold down range energy better. Took several foxes and none went any further that 20m

What kind of a group do they have at 50yds Zxthinger.

Have a full 100 round box of old aguila ammo from the 80s? 90s?, I'll post a pic when I get home to see if anyone recognises them
I've shot some ancient Winchester wildcat ammo too
I like the older stuff, tends to be high quality
Plus my 22 will chew through anything so never had reliability issues

Tried maybe 20 of these about 14 years ago, one in 5 showed a trace.

What kind of a group do they have at 50yds Zxthinger.

1 inch at 50yrds. It subsonic but it hits with 25% more energy and its ideal for for close up body shots on foxes. Also it key holes in target as seen on close examination of carcasses.

Try this, also got this from John Lambert.

Are they 20 grain. What kind of group have theses. Being using 29 CCI subs. Not great beyond 20 yds if I remember correctly. Group gets too big. Bought some 40 grain CCI with around 710 fps. Getting around 1" at 40 yds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭Zxthinger

The limit is about 30yds and the trajectory is like a stone.
They don't suit long bore firearm as anything longer than 16 inches is prone to bore blockages.
The brass doesn't swell enough to reliably mate to the extractor claw so the bolt needs to be ran back twice on my SA

they won't cycle any SA action..

An inch at 20 and 2 at 40yds.

Very dirty on the bore and action. Cleaning needed after 30 rounds or before returning to normal 22lr ammo. Don't over oil yer action with these..

Had a box of RWS tracers back in the eighties. Standard velocity maybe one in the box didn't light, really weird shooting rabbits, looked like the round went down and then rose up to hit the critter. Heard it's an optical illusion.

CCI do 'Quiets' which are similar.

They'll hold about 1.5" at 30y in a standard barrel, and you could get a flatter trajectory from a decent sized rock over the distance. :p

They are a bit of craic though, and insanely quiet with a mod.

What energy are CCI quiets. THE Super Colibri stuff is only about 12ft pounds so it doesn't punch holes in tin sheds
I might knock of the galvanise dip or scratch it a bit.

I got hit in the face with a ricochet one day. Wasn't too bad but just goes to show ye that it happens.

As far as I remember they are 700fps approx, I used quiet segmented hollow points for a while and had great results, don't think the hollow points can be gotten here anymore though, just the round nose unfortunately

Yeah, they're not that low - 50ft.lbs IIRC. Might still have a box laying around here somewhere, shall take a look for it.

Only had the solids myself - never got a look at the segmented ones.
