Sound query

I have recently changed to a 43" LG TV. It's a great TV but I have a problem with the sound connections.

My previous TV had a headphone socket which I had a sub woofer connected to. From the sub I then have a speaker in each corner of the room, the cables for which are hidden in the walls. I could control the volume on these with the TV remote.

With the new TV I only have optical out & hdmi arc. I bought a DAC which gets the TV to work with the speakers through the optical output but it won't let me control the volume of the speakers with the TV remote.

Is there something I can connect to my new tv to utilise my existing speakers without having to run new wires or should I scrap the lot and buy a soundbar?

Thanks for any advice you may be able to give.
