As we predicted, clusters skewing the r-number...
Nolan has said as much, more than once.

9 deaths and 7 cases. Has to be a backlog of deaths there surely.

7 cases is very positive. If it becomes a trend the R number won't be long going below 1 again.

8 are late notifications - took place in April, May, June.

9 deaths ? Bit of a jump. Good to see the positive cases come back down to single figures but when's the last time we had nine deaths ?

8 of the deaths are late notifications.

Cases nice and low today as expected. Shocking number of deaths.

    edit: backlog of deaths

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Ridiculous delay in some of those deaths, back to April!

9 deaths so sad. We had only 8 deaths all of last week

    Christ.

Hopefully its asked in the press conference when are these being reported from.

You have 3 months to notify a death in Ireland and I know the HSE and HPSC were looking to change that.

    RIP to all

Edit: I see its quite a large time line

Our reporting system is a joke tbh, first the cases during the week and now the deaths.

Ah well that explains it then because that was a fair jump when the trend wasn't up.

Dr Ronan Glynn: 8 of today's Covid-19 deaths occurred in April, May and June. Delayed notification.

Cases per day has stabilised for first time in 5 weeks at 18 per day

Those figures are far from stable, very hard to ascertain a trend in the last couple of weeks.

1 death every 3-5 days at the moment

I'm posting what Prof. Nolan is saying

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭What Username Guidelines

Most deaths are delayed - we're seeing about 1 death every 3-5 days according to Nolan.

ICU admission is about 1 every 5 days.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,665 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

This is actually quite positive from prof. Nolan

It’s not his job to understand how it is calculated. It’s his job to have people advising him who do. He is qualified in Mechanical Engineering so I am sure he could get his head around the calculations if needed. But his time is best spent utilising his masters qualification, public administration, and leaving the r number to those suitably qualified

But to say he doesn't understand it or how it's calculated?

Most of the posters on this thread have a handle on that!

Can they please stop clumping notifications like that! There was a collective sense of absolute doom in our office when that alert went out that there were 9 extra deaths.

They should be retrospectively applied to the dates on which they occurred.

I don't think you need to have a medical background to know what it is though

Seems like a big jump in close contact cases in the last week, testing and tracing is detecting cases

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,179 ✭✭✭✭fr336

Pretty silly to include deaths from months ago in daily figures. Regardless of what people watching the briefing have heard, the headline will still be 9 deaths in the corner of the newspaper. So really 1 death.

20 travel cases last week up to Sunday

That's some delay in cause of deaths

Or at least be clear why is behind the number because as sure as night follows days people will see 9 death think were in trouble.

Nolan showed a chart of deaths by date of death. Too hard to see on the stream, but he usually tweets them later.

The law allows people to 3 months to report deaths. They still need to report them when they get them but they are clarifying.
