How long are we going to continue with this daily bulletin of number/misery porn, aka the deaths/cases figures?

It's largely unnecessary to the general public, and at worst downright wrong and misleading.

They should be released on a weekly basis or something to that effect, properly correlated and presented in an accurate fashion, with context given to the dates of the death/positive test etc. with averages over periods of time and so on, like people in this thread present.

I got 3 texts from people about the 9 people dying in one day, when that is outright false. All people see are the 2 figures and base their entire outlook off that and soundbites of headlines.
Never a mention of the fact that 99.7/8% of tests are negative, or anything like that, just any broad headline numbers to make it sound as bad as possible.

I can't remember the last time I got a push notification like that from BBC or the Guardian, but the IT loves it every day, adding in nice little spin with how they word it like "unfortunately 10 new cases/worryingly 15 new cases etc. etc.)

Yeah I always post things with links and verifiable sources.

People then respond by posting ****e.

I thought I mix it up. It’s there for all to see.
It’s boring if everything i post is real.

    Shame on me.

At least sense has prevailed and it's deleted .

To be fair, Glynn immediately said that 8 of the 9 deaths were from previous months but the media headlines just lead with the 9 deaths figure. So the problem here is the media rather than the actual conferences themselves.

Amazing how, after days and days of the media and the opposition banging on about it relentlessly, the supposed "confusion" about the Green List has disappeared completely from the news headlines.

Well here is the headline from The Examiner, possibly put up before context given, but not changed yet:

Nine Covid-19 deaths confirmed, seven new cases

Happy with that sorry for offending you.
    I thought it was obvious.

Anyway enough about commenting on posters.
Care to add some new information to the story that is covid?

Does the Staycation rebate only kick in from October or you can only claim it from October?

No pub spike it now seems.

What does this mean for the non food pubs?

Who knows. Apparently the aim is to get it right down for schools to open. Now we just need the DES to show the same focus on an actual plan.

Would appear to mean that if non food pubs open and ensure the same social distancing as food pubs in the same way, that there will be no problems and that curry and chicken wings don't protect against Covid after all :)

Only from October seemingly. Should be something that they bring in all year every year imo better than messing with vat rates

The Green List served its purpose. It was a smokescreen to cover up the fact that there is no plan in place to ban travellers coming from red zones like America, Brazil or India. Choreograph the debate to be all about whether popular holiday destinations will make the pointless Green List, while distracting away from the real problem of there being absolutely no action being taken to deal with travellers coming from high-risk areas.

    9 deaths is terrible.

Couldn't agree more. As short-sighted and ignorant as it gets.

Agree about the idea to move deaths/cases to a weekly basis + possibly a breakdown of the week (delivered with that package). Its not specifically us at all, but more so from a mental well-being perspective

In this day and age, he should have enough cop on to lead with "1 death" and have the backlog as a footnote to the press conference.
He should know as soon as he gives that update, the push notifications and clickbait sites swing into action and he is happily giving them a lovely headline to get all their delicious clicks.

They should've said 1 new death, it's a bit unfair on people to announce 9. Just say 1 and add the 8 to the total.

1 death is not accurate in reporting notified deaths.

He said 9 and then immediately clarified that 8 of them were historical cases.

Again we see the theatrics of the gov/media with their methods of reporting deaths.

€300 but how can we afford it until then?

    Borrowing.

The alternative is far more expensive.

    1920s?

    I jest. :pac:

1 new death, I imagine the Doctor who died as a result of helping others.

I hope when all this is over they are not forgotten.

Borrowing. Most of it goes back into the domestic economy anyway
