Switching energy provider - paying the old remaining bill

    Hi all,

The house I live in has dual fuel supplied by Airtricity... the tenant who originally added his name to the contract has moved out and subsequently cancelled his contract with Aitricity.

A separate tenant started the switch over to Energia last night, however, there was an unpaid Airtricity bill sent to "The New Occupier" which was due to be paid at the latest yesterday too.

The tenant then contacted Airtricity and said that she was told by them that for her to pay that bill she would need to add her name to the Airtricity account and after 2-3 weeks, once they are notified of the switch to Energia, they would send out her final bill.

The confusion we are having is the "adding her name to the airtricity account" part first. Is this normal procedure?

The reason we are confused, is because the old account was successfully cancelled, so in order to add her name to the Airtricity account, would she need to open up a brand new account/contract?

She is bit hesitant to do this as she only just switched her details to Energia and doesn't want to be billed by both companies or to have any complications with the switch.

    Thanks for any help.

Sign with Energia with the meter read agreed. Anything to do with Airtricity has nothing to do with you. You do not need to set up an account or anything of the sort with them.
