    If 1586 was 9% higher yesterday - I would have thought you would multiple 1586 x 1.09 = 1728.74 (or) 1586 + 9% = 1728.74

I was reading it differently. Ie 1586 represented 91% of the figure we were looking for, so 1586 ÷ 91, x100 = 1742.

Doubting which way is right now :-) heres hoping the wording of the actual test is clear and concise

If not we will have two verbal reasoning tests 😂

I'm planning on using the calculator on my phone. I think I read something about not being able to use your phone?

Not to cause any further confusion on the topic,

You can use your phone for the actual test but not as a calculator during the test.
As per the information booklet, you may take the assessment tests on a PC, laptop, smartphone, mobile or tablet device with reliable internet connection. However, please note that when taking the assessments, all electronic devices other than the device that you are taking the assessments on must be removed.
    - from the email issued yesterday!

I’ve done loads of these tests for public jobs in the past and always score highly: fwiw these were the hardest I’ve ever done. I mean the absolute hardest. I don’t know if it was because they were adaptive, because they were different then I was used to, or just because I was having a bad day. Anyway I don’t think I’ll make it to the next stage which I’m disappointed with. But hey ho I’m already in public service so not the end of the world! They aren’t recording the whole way through just at random points.

Agreed. A regular analogue calculator is something us professional pencil-pushers just should have. :pac:

It's all relative; you just need to have done better that a certain % of other people  oh how I hate %

Found the numerical very hard myself. Which I guess is a double edged sword because the questions scale up and get harder if you're doing well. I don't know think I'm just trying to keep positive because I don't think I done well on it at all.

Same here. I found I spent a lot longer than suggested on the numerical. Dunno where they were going for 15 minutes haha.

Anytime I'd have a hard question, I'd answer and move on and find the next question doable and it made me very paro.. Don't really understand why they adjusted the questions or told us that??

Crap - I am now worried about the numerical :(

So was either the numerical or verbal reasoning time limited in any way? Either on a per question basis or in total?

Neither were timed. The only way I know my times was I wrote the starting time and ending time down on my notes page so I could keep track using the clock on my laptop.

Another thing to note, when I loaded the page at first it was very slow. My internet speed is good so I wasn't sure why and I was a bit nervous about it. But as soon as I got into the actually assignment it was ok.

Ha I'm sure it'll be different for everyone so don't worry too much. I am out of practise when it comes to maths because I've been working in a creative field for the past 4 years. I had done practise in the lead up to this but it was a bit tougher than I anticipated.

Seems everyone is in agreement that the numerical test is harder than the verbal reasoning.

Bet the average score will be higher in the numerical one somehow.

Just got an email from gradireland.

They have sent some news about graduate positions in the civil service for recent graduates. They’re saying that information about the roles will be going up on public jobs about them on the 18th. Most likely AO or EO positions.

I’d take that as a good sign that they want to be recruiting and that as of right now there’s no recruitment freeze on the cards.

Is the numerical counted though? In the 2018 comp you only had to pass it and the scores weren't counted.

Most likely AO for graduate level. Good news for people if it is.

Found my ancient scientific calculator from school. Dead batteries and a bit corroded, but tried others and it worked.

Does anyone know if you are penalised for incorrect on the numerical answers? Ie if you are running out of time take a punt on the remaining questions?

Same logic as yourself. Bought a branded desk casio on for 9.99 in easons yesterday. Buttons laid out nice and simple and easy to use.

For those positions do you have to be a recent graduate, or could you have graduated from college 20 years ago ? But a graduate all the same ???

What's an AO position relative to EO positions?

I don't think there is negitive marking but your judged on Speed and Accuracy so if you guess the last few questions incorrectly you would drag down your overall Accuracy

You don't have to be a recent graduate but normally you must have a level 8 qualification.

Administrative Officer and Higher Executive Officer are equivalent grades just above the Executive Officer, AO's are normally more policy roles (Although this is heavily debatable on some threads)

    *Assistant Principal Officer
*Higher Executive Officer / Administrative Officer
    *Executive Officers
    *Clerical Officers

It's next level up from EO, basically, the equivalent of an HEO except AOs can be recruited externally unlike HEOs - though the starting salary of an HEO is far higher.

How many numerical is a pass? Is it still eight ?

Ah Fair enough, would if be safe to assume very little AO roles would come up outside dublin ?

Ah Fair enough, would if be safe to assume very little AO roles would come up outside dublin ?

The last two recruitment competitions were just for Dublin only!

Three streams: 2 specialised and 1 general.

EDIT: There was also an AO competition for Revenue with regional positions which was separate.

Most AO's roles would be Dublin. Although its an Open Competitions, approximately 70% of successful candidates are serving Civil and Public Services so the competition is high.

Just finished my assessment and as I expected there was a lot of guessing in the numerical. I'm thinking one or two of those guesses may have been right as the next question was harder, but most of the time it was followed up by a softer one meaning it was wrong. There was one set of questions in relation to cars and mileage and it may as well have been written in Esperanto. Didn't come into it with any expectations having fared poorly in these numerical tests before but even this was a bit more than ones I have done previously I'd say. That's the end of the road for me anyway, best of luck to the rest of ye
