I know of a case where a man came into money and was asked for a 'loan' to start/improve his business by a relation. I don't think the business worked out too well and he never got repaid and no effort at explanation or contact. He also avoided him afterwards, forever.

That's the nightmare scenario. Where you become a walking ATM and people expect you to be shyting €50s.

The very worst would be where you do something nice like, first time on the local pub buy everyone a round of drinks and then next time you go in for a quiet pint, people expect you to buy everyone a round. And before long you're being called a stingy bastard for NOT buying drinks for people.

I'd just want to keep it secret. People would look at you differently if they know you won the money.

Buy a 2 bedroom bungalow with a big enough garden for electric gates and a large garage. And quit my job.

The electric gates can be a bit of a pain. Often break down and need fixing and this fella got expensive ones!

My Da’s ones have went once in about 12 years which wouldn’t be bad going. They’re class though. Wouldn’t want the house hidden or anything, just so nobody could land at the door too handy.

Sounds like a Government enquiry. Would you have any money left at the end of it?

    Amazingly, yes.
It's actually more or less a standard service apparently, and with a competent specialised accountancy firm involved the odds of having a comfortable whole life (rather than a homeless death in chronic addiction and poverty after a 2 year blowout) from a lottery win go waaaayyy up.

An armoured train, complete with AA guns , artillery, cinema and swimming pool.
Crewed by a team of monkey warriors , coke and hookers would roam free as the train roared through the countryside in the depths of winter.

I'll contribute to that from my winnings as and when. Assuming my lawyers and accountants approve it.

Castles are too hard heat and clean. 2 bedroom max.

I’d have to buy a car if I quit the job too. Ford Ranger.

But you'd have you own forest too. Plenty of wood to keep fire lit in all rooms.

Go all Roman and have the local farmers install copper piping under their silage pits sending boiling water under the slate floor of your castle. Place would be a sauna.

    One I can answer.

1/ Pay off my mother house mortgage. That woman has done more for me in life that can be counted.

2/ Pay off my best mates mortgage. He saw me through some rough times.

3/ Set up a fund for my kids so they can build or buy a home when they're adults.

Only once the family is taken care of I'd get my own stuff sorted out.
