Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How bad can the table be playing, honestly?

I didn't see any indication the table or the balls were causing a problem in this mornings session. Is it as bad as they're making out, or are Selby and to a lesser extent O'Sullivan simply not potting like you'd expect?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Got away with it again Ronnie. And it was negative the way he played it because there was no followup colour had he got it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

Ronnie looking a little all over the shop again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

Selby outplaying Ronnie in the tactical game already.

Freudian slip from Parrott. "This is a big frame in this final psychologically."

One of the pundits say something, or could it be that both players are just playing poor by their standards? Maybe the 'ironing man' didn't do his due diligence perhaps? :p

Good snooker by Selby there, he's good at that, so he is. Be a cruel blow for The Rocket to not win this...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

First signs of Ronnie cracking there by blasting that red from another snooker he was in and relying on luck. Which he didnt get. Ominous signs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

No way would O'Sullivan have deserved to win that opening frame. His long potting was miles away and his safety play was poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

FFS, the excuses from the studio about poor "thoroughbred" Ronnie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,437 ✭✭✭weemcd

Selby's potting has deserted him almost completely and Ronnie's shot selection has gone out the window. I know Ronnie had a kick on the black, but this kind of dull, drawn out snooker suits Selby down to the ground.

Could see O'Sullivan blowing up here quite quickly.

Reds are spread nicely. Don't feck it up Selby.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

Another opening for Selby. Ronnie wasn't even on the black if he potted that long red. Between Selby outsmarting him, getting a few kicks and not really looking confident since leading 4-1 i am a little worried now for Ronnie as Selby looks the stronger player.

These tables are playing slower and heavier, no question. As to how that should affect players is another matter. Ronnie not usually one to get unduly bothered by conditions, but that black was horrendous. Wins the frame easily only for that.

He's not winning any frames easily and whether he dropped the black or not i feel he could miss anything at anytime the way he's playing.

Is there any other player who pundits would let them get away with just not wanting to play a long frame being a tactic..

Exactly. He almost overcut the simple black shortly after.

It's almost apt that the century wasn't made.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

Hendry saying not many would pick Selby to be the first to score a century in this match. Why? Selby lis so good he could score a century in the first frame.

Is this the Ronnie O'Sullivan Show in the studio?

    That should really help Selby.
O'Sullivan must be raging that he's not ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

O'Sullivan is dreadful. Could have missed earlier. Will the studio now say Selby was unlucky to have left the red he took on, into the opposite corner? Like they did with Ronnie in the last frame.

Dreadful is harsh. He’s missed a couple of balls yeah but not much more than that

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

Ronnie inspires little confidence at the moment. He looks rattled.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

That last frame last night i feared would get into Ronnie's mind. He's awful today.

His cueball control is terrible and he's missed easy chances. The long pots he had, he was lucky to have near the pockets.

The way Ronnie's playing, Selby would want to lose an arm and a leg to be beaten here.

He’s struggling yeah. I’m not disputing that. Dreadful was a very strong word for it was all I was saying.

    Great pot there

This is brutal stuff. I might turn it off for a few frames...

OJ I'll be watching all afternoon

    Great frame from Selby

Knowing how it's going to end up I stopped watching. Not a competition. O'Sullivan too reckless and may as well hand the match over in wrapping paper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That was a decent pot from Ronnie, at long last.

Ronnie has the mental fortitude of a wet paper bag

Ronnie seems to be falling apart a bit here. If Selby gets 3 frames in front he will have a big mountain to climb.

Agreed, it's over. Ronnie hasn't got the head to beat Selby...he has the skill, not the head. He takes on some stupid shots at times he should be tying Selby up in knots. Fine, he doesn't like to play that way...but sometimes you need to grind out a win & he doesn't seem happy to bother doing that. Selby wins four on the bounce, goes into the lead, & O'Sullivan not looking remotely interested in a safety battle....the rest of this match will be a slog of pure disappointment.

Hopefully Wilson gets through & beats Selby in the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

And break over already. Brutal stuff.

Come on Ronnie.. Not many want to see a Selby/Wilson or McGill final

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

From looking like 6-2 in front to going 7-5 behind, all my fears about Ronnie have come to pass. He looks brittle out there and Selby has him in his pocket.

Hope his cuppa energises the Rocket at interval. A reprieve here, mon Ron.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

This is a good break is right, John Parrott. Just as I say that, looks like it's over.

What's with all the silly comments? You'd swear Selby has the match won. Ronnie not at the races so far today, but it's a marathon not a sprint. No doubt it will go down to the wire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

    That should be 7-5 now.

Yes but a 5 time world champion clearly can’t make a match of it. Doesn’t have it in him

He’s been battered this session but there is so much snooker to play

im not writin ronnie off yet, but wow he's hard to watch

That attempt to pot that red into middle from Ronnie was silly, never possible to cut that in, and then leave it for Selby. Throwing it away Ronnie, needs to gather himself, stop forcing it.

I really hope you're right :pac:

Selby really getting into a rhythm now, 5 frames in a row for him.
    The break might help Ronnie

Yeah exactly. The first frame there whilst Selby was hitting the (marginally) better safety shots Ronnie still just forced it.

He clearly has the game to do it but if he could only be a bit more patient, if only to left Selby know that he’s not going to take on every single half chance
