Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Selby gone 8/13 fav.

I watched Ronnie against Williams. Williams didn't have the game (anymore) and I said any other opponent will finish Ronnie off no problem.

Great talent yes but not the greatest snooker player ever. Much as I found him dull at time that's Hendry for me. Talent without temperament (and brains) not that much use.

Besides anyone who talks about other players as 'amateurs' is not concentrating on their own game. The greats remain focussed from the moment a tournament starts until they are on the bus home.

Selby outplaying Ronnie in the tactical game already.

Not being cheeky at all but that is predictable. Selby will win on safety. Ronnie doesn't have that essential part of the game.

What's with all the silly comments? You'd swear Selby has the match won. Ronnie not at the races so far today, but it's a marathon not a sprint. No doubt it will go down to the wire.

Trust me, Selby has the match won.

Ronnie's mental fragility is getting tiresome. Something doesn't go his way so he starts arsing around. His own worst enemy.

Ronnie's safety play is often overlooked. When he's on it his tactical game is up near the best. Not today, though and it was apparent very early on that Selby had already tied him up in knots. And that was not a formality so early in the session.

What a poor attempt at splitting the pack.

I wouldn't associate him with safety play. Last night when he got back to the table he looked as if he had no interest in fighting for the frame. The greats fight for everything. Ronnie seems to think well I'll win a few more frames instead. Who is his coach? Or more likely Ronnie doesn't listen to his coach.

Now Ronnie won't get a better chance to get going than this

Terrible efforts from both players. Selby will probably rue that miss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Got the arm going there at least after some early wobbles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭taytobreath

ronnie is gonna win the next 3 frames with 1 visit attempts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

As soon as a red goes in baulk Selby goes favourite.

Very few can hit a better safety shot that him, but he doesn't always have the head to get into protracted safety battles. When he does, he's one of the best at it.

Looks to me like he's frustrated, he needs a long break to get his head together.

That was some potted red by Selby.

One of the best ever yeah.

Lets not get carried away with Ronnies fragility. People weren't saying anything about Selby not even making a 40 break in the session yesterday.

Ronnie can easily rattle off 3 or 4 frame winning breaks in a row. Plenty of snooker left here.

Someone mentioned earlier about why the match from earlier wasn't being talked about. I was getting through as much work as I could today so I could watch the final session tomorrow morning!

    Selby is cueing well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That was a poor lapse in concentration from Mark.

Selby not at the races either. Ronnie could still level here.

Ronnie's game really is in bits. If he can get one of these two it will be a reasonable limitation of the damage. Both and Selby should be sick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,463 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Just conceded, was it not possible to try win that frame, at least attempt to pot a red, and then concede.

He would have needed two snookers and maxed the black on the rest of the reds. Probably right not to bother

He's no more taking this red on Selby, than I am

    Going into Ebdon mode now.

Is this match going to be finished today or tomorrow? I'm at work and can't seem to find the answer

I did not think he would have attempted that red. Very un-Selby like.
    Gifts Ronnie a great chance.

    Final session tomorrow night.

Indeed yeah. Anyway, I want to see all of both!

Surprised he tried that red to middle. Very un-Selby as you said.

2 sessions due tomorrow. Morning and evening. I reckon it'll still be going on into the evening Andrew.

Funny how commentators have done a 180 on the Selby v O'Sullivan game. Yesterday was all Ronnie xyz genius etc especially by Parrott. Now he has completely changed his tune. Selby matchplay granite etc.

I am still standing by my Selby will strangle O'Sullivan - original prediction.
Plus saw the bit about Wilson's family. His wife seems very clued in!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Yea she seems to watch him practise a lot. How exciting :)

Her husband going from earning no money at all for years and being away from home all the time to winning £85k for 1 weeks work in China may have raised her interest.

I don't think (what little I know :p) that anybody could have played that shot much better than what Mark did. Even to a non snooker player it looked a 4/10, at best, with no possible 'safety in mind' - madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Selby will be sickened if he doesn't get out 6-2, much like Ronnie probably was yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,476 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Nothing wrong with Ronnies safety here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,476 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Not getting run of the ball Ronnie

I'd say, out of the 2 of them that Ronnie will be 'on it' in the morning.
Could win that session 6-2, if he's not too demoralised. Still hope in this frame I suppose,
with the reds all acting somewhat like 'blockers' for each other.

Ronnie spends most of his time telling anyone that will listen '' I don't care, whatever, doesn't matter'' , trying to convince himself of that I feel.
I think he does care, punching the table is an insight into him.

Nobody believes that nonsense, least of all himself.

I dunno I've punched tables in frustration for things I'm not wholly invested in. Rte Player springs to mind :)

Horrible session for Ronnie. If he didn't sleep well last night he'll be feeling worse tonight. Selby salvaged a 5-3 loss last night while Ronnie only managed 2 frames today. Thats the difference. Not over yet but Selby looks the surer bet.

Bad session for Ronnie, and none of it his fault really, didn't get any luck, and you need a bit of luck. Every time Selby messed up, and smashed into the reds he managed not only not to leave anything on, but it was difficult to play safe.
Luck all on Sebly at the moment, could swing again though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Plenty of it was his fault to be fair. Wasn't on it at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

O'Sullivan lucky it's not 10-6 to Selby. O'Sullivan did have some good luck at points in that session. The 2 frames Ronnie won, Selby let him in with sitters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭taytobreath

the psychologist mark peters? will be telling Ronnie, hey your only 2 behind despite you playing badly.

I think there's still plenty left in the tank with Ronnie. He's still only in 1st gear.
