Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hendry vs Bond is very entertaining.

Better than the 95 final! Plus it is funny how the players snooker mannerisms have not changed. Plus Bond looks fairly much the same as he did 25 years ago, just white hair and few wrinkles added.

Hendry looks very frustrated can't play the shots he wants. Then when looked like he was gone. Old competitive spirit kicked in. Great to see.

I have to laugh when I think Ronnie is eligible to play in this!

Mark Williams won it a few years back, a couple of years before he won his third world championship in 2018

Never, ever liked the guy. Snooker's most 'angry little man' if there ever was one.

Fergal is a young buck of just 48 summers, you have to get to 50 to be eligible. Say we could land a touch on him in 2 years.

Prize money for the world seniors:

    Winner: £25,000
    Runner-up: £10,000
    Semi-finalist: £7,500
    Quarter-finalist: £3,000
    Highest break: £1,500
    Total: £63,500

Not too bad for auld fellas! Better than bingo.

Think it was changed from over 40 to over 50, Mark Williams won it 2 years ago, and he's not 50.

Think there were too many 41 year olds beating experienced veterans of 60. There can be a disparity in quality, Dennis Taylor played Michael Judge and got about 50 points. Michael Judge is only 45, did nobody notice 😂. There goes my argument

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,899 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

It's over 40's this year, has been over 45's on some previous years. Mark Williams won it in 2015 when he was 40, he beat Fergal O Brien in the final.

At least someone knows what's going on, I'm easily confused. 2-1 to Doherty

Hendry is the best of all time in my opinion. In his prime he wiped the floor with everyone. I remember in the 90s every time he seemed to get a half decent chance he would clean up the table. O’Sullivan is a great player but for me Hendry in his prime was so ruthless, he was like a snooker cyborg
    gilly1910 wrote: »
It's one thing though that I can never understand is the fact that Hendry never won another World Title after the age of 30. To me he is the greatest player of all time, with Ronnie easily the most talented player of all time, but it still beggars belief that Hendry never won another World Title after 1999, particularly when you see Ronnie as good as ever at the age of 44. Hendry was an absolute Rolls Royce of a snooker player with nerves of steel, so in a sport where mental toughness is key, it beggars belief that he was pretty much a spent force at the ripe old age of 30.

I noticed Morgan's shot time is over 31secs similar to Ebdon.
He is motoring slowly now looked like a frame winning break for 2-2 but broke down at 66. Ken let him in handy again now needs snookers.

Can't help looking again at those final few frames in the Ronnie/Selby semi match.

In the final frame Selby could have cleared up, and he did very well to make a break to bring it back given the tense situation, but at the stage he had 2 red balls left he hummed and hawed over it, and then got himself into a tactical battle with Ronnie which he lost. And I think that is the difference between the 2 players, Ronnie went for it, Selby tried to tactic it out, but Ronnie's 'style' won.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,912 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I only saw a bit of Jimmy White v Lines. Because inexplicably they stopped showing it on red button and could not find it elsewhere. But the bits I saw of Jimmy. Very impressive the old Jimmy is still there. Can play all the flashy shots and crucially still get the big breaks. One red he hit in particular stuck to the baulk cushion powered in a red full length. Knocked in a big break. Only thing lacking for him is consistency. Says it himself.

Always thought he was living in dream world thinking he could win a tournament on the regular tour now. But I think he could, maybe only shorter match tournaments. Worlds too long for him now. White will hammer Hendry (Hendry is gone as a player - playing on competitive memory scrapping odd good shot thats all). Will be amazed if one of the Dubs beat White.

Well it was until Ken missed that black by miles off the spot in the 6th frame. Reds were open. Jimmy starting to get a rhythm. Ken in again 32 down

New to the thread so haven't read the comments.

Anyone else annoyed at Wilson, how he said he was happy just to make the final and that he wasn't disappointed? How he did well for his age.

Ahhh Kyren, you got battered in the final a few days after Ronnie said all the young players coming through are rubbish. You're 28, thats when you should be winning! Snooker isn't generally an old mans sport.

Ronnie is well past his peak, and gives players lot of chances nowadays.

If you look at the first time finalists and their ages, they are generally Kyrens age or younger yet Kyren seemed to think just getting to a final and getting hammered v a 44 year old was a magnificent achievement.

    Trump:
    First final - 21
    First win - 30

    Ding:
    First final - 29

    Robertson:
    First final - 28
    First win - 28

    Higgins:
    First final - 22
    First win - 22

    Matthew Stevens:
    First final - 22

    Williams:
    First final - 24
    First win - 25

    Shaun Murphy
    First final - 22
    First win - 22

    Selby:
    First final - 23
    First win - 30

    Carter:
    First final - 28

Barry Hawkins is the outlier being 34 making his first final.

He's making real hard work of it now, but, good chance to get a nice lead in this frame now

Was actually thinking earlier Jimmy's last final in 94 he was 32. It wasn't too much of a surprise that he fell down the rankings from there. It felt like he was around at the top of the game a long time since that 82 semi vs Alex.

Nowadays 32 would be considered a player's prime, or an okish/acceptable time to reach your first final/win.
