There's been a recent modest increase in cloud height in the Irish sea, East of Meath and Louth, moving south West and will arrive on the east coast shortly, probably near Drogheda. Radar returns showing precipitation.

There has been extensive mid level cloud for several hours in the North Irish sea which had only begun to break up in the past hour or so, so shower activity could increase further.

Shower activity should increase in the next few hours along the east coast. Colder uppers in the next few hours also. M2 Buoy is down from 1.8c to 1.3c, this needs to be at least 0.5c for the coast to see any snow.

You need the wet bulb to be <0.5c that is more important than the dew point as it determines the melting temperature of the snowflakes and the amount of evaporative cooling.

I know that!! M2 Buoy is a just good parameter for the east coast. Dew point to wet bulb formula!!

Honestly I would take another month of this frosty weather. It's a pleasant change and very beautiful.

    Rem to feed the birds!

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Belmullet leading a charmed life during this spell. 4.7 hours of sunshine recorded today. its the only station reporting 0 on the 10pm reports with just 3 knots of wind. Certainly better than the usual "westerly,26 knots gusting 46 knots, moderate drizzle"

Ya it is lovely weather in the west and the views are great with snow capped hills in the distance. Great opportunity for lanscape photography these days and the sunsets should be lovely.

It is a little odd though how it still manages to cloud over at times with 1033mb.

That pulse of deeper convection earlier on was on the leading edge of a large upper dry slot that's gotten into the east over the past couple of hours. It can be traced back up to Scandinavia.

It may allow some deeper convection to spring up overnight, like what's happening in spots over northern England. Clutching at straws but sure what else is there to do?

It’s not a cap. It’s actually from connective showers heading over from Scotland.

Definitely not the “coldest night of the year” here in cork city anyway as some papers were making it out to be. Warmest night in a week really. Ice is all but melted and none forming either versus what was there this afternoon.

About 3 degrees at the moment.

    That's tomorrow night no?

All stations at 0°c or above at midnight according to Met Éireann's latest reports, temperatures widely underestimated.

That is what I thought too! But two articles said tonight..

Edit: After actually reading the article they link to the Met Éireann tweet which says Tuesday.. are there even editors anymore for papers? :p. https://jrnl.ie/5315359 Tsk tsk

most of the models got the temperatures completely wrong for tonight, tonight is one of the mildest nights we've had in the past week or more. 3C at the moment and reached 5C earlier today. These showers aren't even close to being marginal.

Ireland's Weather Channel or whatever he's calling himself these days will be issuing a purple warning for apocalyptic blizzards any day now.

Its definitely a bit warm here this morning in NCD.

I knew the minute I got up and no sign of ice which is great.

Hopefully rain stays away + can get out for a nice walk.
