Im the only person on Dollymount beautiful sunrise. The sea is a load of icy slush where the tide meets the beach, never saw that before.

Is it cold enough for hot water to evaporate when you throw a glass of it in the air? Not quite? Ah well onto week 4 of January...

There's a chance of bad freezing rain later as that warm front moves southeastwards. At midday it will lie from Newport to Derry, so areas of the midlands and east just ahead of it that are now frozen could see some bad conditions later this evening. Can't rule out some snow falling too.

I can't feel my face or hands or feet yet, don't go out on a bike! As I was saying, frozen sand and slushy ice where sea meets beach at Dollymount

Amazing pics! That is serious cold. I remember towards the end of the December 2010 cold spell parts of the river Liffey were freezing over and big blocks of ice were floating past The Point and the docklands in the city centre.

-7c at Casement and Dunsany at 0900.

Lowest I have seen at Met E stations overnight is -8c (at a couple of stations). So, assume, overnight low is somewhere between -7.5 and -8.5c.
