Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 & Note 20 Ultra....

    mmmm

    https://www.samsung.com/ie/smartphones/galaxy-note20/

Pre orders now open....€999 for the note 20 model with 256 memory.

Personally as a guy don't like the 'mystic gold' on any of the new kit announced today that is open for pre order or pre registration.

I'd imagine more models will add to it, I don't know if I'd be able to go smaller than 512 for storage now, my phone has replaced USB keys for me at this stage

I've owned every Galaxy Note except 1 and 4. This year, i'm more on the fence. The price tag has gotten maybe a little to rich for my blood. I'm a bit miffed there is no 16gb ram option. The colours are far less interesting this yr. Have some lingering doubts as to if they have actually resolved the camera issues, and there's a nasty rumour the Exynos version is substantially slower than the Snadpdragon verison.

If i'm going to buy this, i think it's going to be an import version.

They don't have 5G for Ireland yet either, last year I got mine from Microsoft UK, looks like it'll be the same again this year.

€1,449 for the 5G 512 Ultra version, I think I'm worth that but I don't think Mrs. Clareman would agree

Anyone know if the tech journalists who do reviews (Indo and Newstalk) get to keep the samples they have posted on their social media ....jealous and curious!

I think they get beta versions before final release and they don't have full functionality, bit like shop demo models.

When can we expect Vodafone to pick up on this and release pricing etc?

Edit: apologies, today it would seem from their twitter.

Three have Note 20 Ultra for 1239. Plus you can claim Buds Live worth 199.

100+ cheaper than Samsung at 1349.

Yeah but what plan are they locking you into to get that 'deal'.... any more than €12.99pm (Gomo) needs to be added on top.

No, its prepay and unlocked hybrid sim. You can use any sim after buying inc Gomo. So it is the cheapest for the device with no plans attached.

I'm really annoyed with Vodafone that they only have the 256gb version AND you can only pre-order as a new customer, not if you are upgrading... wtf...
    1st world problem I know :-)

Are you sure Dan? Is this that Samsung don't lock the Note 20 Ultra or 3? Thanks.

I think a lot of people who got the prepaid phones pre-order in the past (lots of p's there) got network unlocked and bloatware free phones

  • Registered Users Posts: 339 ✭✭Fiddlex

Im interested in the trade in deal with samsung as I currently have note 10+. I previously did the deal with Samsung Ireland and had no issues but Samsung UK has a better deal for this phone currently.

Anyone have issues with doing the trade in deal with UK? mainly the time limit to return?

Big risk though I don't want to end up with a 3 locked Note Ultra 20!
Am tempted by Vodafone's €750 on the 24 month €60 plan.

Samsung UK via student beans. You can buy an account on Ebay for 5£ if you are not a student.

The Note 10 Plus, S10 Plus, S20+ and Ultra were Hybrid dual sim and were never locked by any carrier.

Note 20 Ultra is also the same its a dual sim Hybrid (2 sims or sim and micro sd).

Samsung phones cost a tenner to unlock. But as its a dual sim Hybrid it wont be locked.

Also just an FYI is 1219 on VF prepay with same buds live offer so 20 cheaper than 3.

I have a 10% off code for UK site. Works at 1061£ for Note 20 Ultra and Buds Live roughly 1180 here. PM me if anyones looking.

I have the S20 Ultra, very tempted by the Note Ultra, €500 trade in...

Kind of tempted to offload the S20 Ultra myself, even knowing the Note 20 Ultra would be more sideways than forward (even backward in one sense).

Just cannot get on with the S20's cheap looks, whereas the Note has that angular 'professional' look. Just wish the new Note offered a bit 'more' and it would be an easy choice assuming I got decent money for the S20, as opposed to veering towards a 'not very sensible one.

    Might sleep on it.

have a 10% off code for UK site,I was given one by a poster here last night so am returning the favour. Its a referral code but PM me if you want it.

I used the 10% code and also accessed Samsung site via topcashback, they have 5% discount.

The 10% was taken at the checkout and the 5% is pending on topcashback.Be great if the 5% comes through but no harm trying it as it won't impact the 10% saving.

I got onto them this morning to ask this, guess what? They haven't a clue. They said I should be able to get it on an upgrade and will get back to me.

I'll move my Vodafone mobile and landline if this turns out to be true.

As someone who got a new flagship at least once a year for well over a decade, I think I'm going to hang on to my Note 9 for even longer.

This is the longest I've ever had a phone, and I really can't see the justification in spending over a grand on the Ultra. It really is craziness.

Using Xbox Game Pass as a selling point is a bit of a weird one. You have all this RAM and processing power and you feature a service that will happily run on a device with much lower specs.

Regarding 3 locking devices, my S6+ was unlocked but had a 3 splash screen. My Note 8 was completely stock (no splash etc) but was locked to 3.

I'd expect them not to be network locked, but you never know for sure.

I had a S6 Edge that was locked to Tesco Mobile, I think that was the last time I bought a phone off a network but it's normally really easy to unlock them.

I put in an order for the Ultra today direct with Samsung Ireland

What was your reasoning in not going for the PAYG models cheaper Clareman?

Ahh would likely agree with you - for example, a 3 logo going across the phone every time I turned it on would seriously piss me off.

Did you go for the 512gig or will you just use memory cards to bolster it?

Went for the 512, it's "just" another €100 for the extra space so I figured I'm worth it

I just remembered the annoyance of pre-ordering a phone, you've to wait 2 weeks for it, it was the other reason I went with Samsung directly, hopefully I'll have it on the 21st,yes i am that petty/stupid

Let us know how you get on with it, two or three years ago when I was in the same boat I ended up not buying from Vodafone for the same reason, you lose the free Buds Live promotion if they can't find a way to process the order with latest invoice date 20/8

Any thoughts on the whole snapdragon vs exynos issue? Seems we are getting a lesser spec in Emea vs USA.

I think it's majorly overblown and a non-issue, the processor we get is better than any others anyway but it's just something to complain about

It doesn't bother me, but you can fully understand why people would be annoyed paying well over a grand for a device that doesn't perform as well as the same device bought in another country.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,008 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

Yeah, people will get annoyed over everything but if you are getting annoyed about the processer in a phone that you spending over a grand on you don't have that much to be annoyed about really
