    Hi In the wind,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

If you are a new customer (of less than 14 months) there is a security deposit charge applied unless the customer pays by direct debit. Direct debit is also required as part of the 12-month contract for a switching/new customer offer. Should the above apply in your case, we recommend contacting your bank with regard to why the direct debit is not functioning.

If you are a customer for more than 14 months, here are all of the ways in which to pay an Electric Ireland bill.

    Kind regards,
    Una

Thanks for the rapid & detailed response Una.

We're new customers <14 months. We're also overseas which is where the complication lies I think.

The 1st A/C we tried to use was an overseas a/c so I think that was the reason it didn't work out.
The 2nd account we tried from PTSB does not support DD - so my bad.

As we are still overseas we can't get into PTSB branch to set up an A/C that does support DD. As such we'd like to pay off the bill & put some advance credit on there too so we're in good standing until we get back to Ireland.

    hope that makes sense?

    Cheers.

    Hi In the wind,

Thanks for your post - we are happy to advise.

Any SEPA IBAN can be used for direct debit, and there should not be an issue. Here is the mandate if you are in a position to try this again, as removal of the direct debit will automatically cause the security deposit to be charged.

To make payment into the account between bills in order to build credit, just ensure to do so by card only.

    Kind regards,
    Una
