This virus aint going away...we will have to live with it for the time being..the government wont go back into lockdown
Lockdown as has been proven only kicks the can down the road for it to rear its head when we come out of it.

Until there is a credible vaccine that's not going to turn us all into 3 legged Frog Monkeys..we will just have to follow protocol and try not to infect the vulnerable.

The government needs to hold firm and it was a good call to keep Kildare restricted to keep everyone safe, stay home = stay safe. People like carrots but there is no time to spend coaxing them during a terrifying emergency, that’s why the stick has to be put through it’s paces. As Lenin used to say, “it’s true that liberty is precious, so precious that it must be carefully rationed” We need to keep people in their place to maintain order.

Driving around Dublin its clear to see the public are starting to ignore the government pushed panic and are getting on with their lives.
See groups of women back out walking together, large groups of teenagers out socialising, look in the windows of pubs and decent crowds inside.
We are getting more infected daily now than when the government first shut the country down, i believe when it first started the lock down was correct but now months later, it is obvious Covid19 is not that lethal to 99.99% of the population, but the government dont want to admit this as it would mean the lock down and subsequent economic damage where unnecessary, they are doubling down on their dire predictions to try save face, but Sweden shows the world the facts of the matter.
Their will be no second lock down, the public wont obey it, the government can call for one buy it will be ignored.

    .

Or that facts don't matter, perhaps.
Have we any plausible idea of the carnage that would have ensued had we not locked down in time ?
Are you seriously suggesting that almost every country in the world inflicted economic disaster on themselves just for the craic and now they don't want to admit it ?
Sweden shows nobody anything, they got it badly wrong and have admitted as much.

How busy were those same pubs in July?

All i can say with certainty is the last 2-3 weeks i am seeing with my own 2 eyes that the Pubs that are open are busy.
Social distancing is gone, hand shakes and Hugs galore out side pubs when people are leaving.
Covid19 lethality is clearly extremely overstated, people are seeing this and getting on with their lives.
I was all for lock down when it started, but not now, Sweden has shown the way , the tens of thousand at BLM protests was a eye opener, why where thy allowed if Covid is so lethal to BLAME people?
Then we have Belarus, president said no such virus exists, kept county 100% up and running, football matches with packed stadiums, so riddle me this, why is there no sky high death count for Belarus?
Hundreds of thousands out protesting the elections there, why are they not getting battered by Covid19 in Belarus?

Explain Belarus, ZERO lock down, Zero restrictions, country kept open at 100%, in recent weeks Hundreds of Thousands out protesting the election, why are they not dropping like flies?

I can't explain Belarus, nor do I care about it tbh. Perhaps we can't believe anything coming out of there, given the chaos over the election. Maybe its not the sort of place with a whole lot of tourism and people going there, i've no idea. If you're prepared to argue that a western democracy doesn't want to admit it got something wrong in order to save face, could the same argument be made about the Belarus govt ? Maybe they'll drop like flies in a few months, there's always a lag between infection and deaths. Maybe we'll never know they dropped like flies.

I'd prefer to look at experiences closer to home like Italy, Spain, UK, France even the USA.

No masks or social distancing in Minsk but these protesters are the darlings of a fawning media just like the BLM protests!

What happens in Belarus will happen no matter what people in Ireland think or say, same for any other country with issues..

We've more things to be thinking of here in Ireland... Our own attitude to the Pandemic and each other should be number 1.

Why our elected officials, leaders, media stars, EU representatives treat the rules and systems of laws they create on our behalf with apparent contempt, and feel like it's ok to ignore everything they tell us.

Why we've moved on and forgiven the HSE for the 1000 deaths in Nursing homes.

Why 100's of people feel it's ok to gather without any Covid health measures and promote false cures in our capital city..

It was the response to the protests that were the biggest eye openers. The same people who spent telling us to stay in doors or you'll kill granny were suddenly cheering on these protests and were acting like Covid no longer existed. And the hemming and hawwing to defend their hypocrisy certainly woke some people up.

If there's another lockdown I'm leaving the country.

This golf club dinner has demonstrated that people cannot be trusted. So another lockdown it should be, close the border with the North and shut the airport. That will teach people.
Exactly. If that is how our betters are behaving just think what the average nobodies are up to. Doesn't bear thinking about. Even a standard lockdown may not be sufficient.

According to our Health Minister, he said (twice) yesterday that there is a strong possibility of a second national lockdown. Apparently, NPHET are recommending this action.

Imagine what it will do to our economy if this happens. Between the increase in suicides and the economic devastation as a direct result of Covid, there should be no more national lockdowns.

I'd say hell will freeze over before another full lockdown considered.

Just watching the weekly HSE press conference, just a mumbo jumbo of stats, figures, (their) wonderful achievements. Paul Reid is a great man for "I can't comment on specifics". Then they turn to journalists questions and Tone always changes, not sure why they bother inviting journalists, the HSE communications officer"s arrogance is breath taking. Just ended and none the wiser on anything.

Paul Reid to me is a total spoofer. He talks about ireland being world class at testing, but if anything goes wrong, I cant comment on indivdual cases or its an outlier case. He moved his family from Dublin to Leitrim in March as he knew the **** was hitting the fan. Given that he was head of the HSE, work based in Dublin and hundreds of his staff were getting infected daily, it did'nt come across as his greatest moment of solidarity with his staff. Doctors and nurses in Dublin had no choice but to stay put in their 2km zone.

Strange to see people claim its not that lethal, how quickly we are to forget the coffin piles of Italia and Spain!

Not to mention the hospital footage!

I couldn't agree more, not entirely sure what his qualifications are, he did a stint at Telecom Eireann I believe but its painfully obvious with no medical background he struggles and has to revert to others on alot of questions. What's also interesting is the levels the HSE goes on presentation, I've not ever seen a press officer at Government press conferences albeit there was one annoying one at a health briefing with Stephen Donnelly recently much to the annoyance of assembled journalists who resented being told what questions NOT to ask

Has any other country gone back into a complete national lockdown because of a spike in cases ?
Why would we be the first to even consider a national lockdown .. kildare coming out of a month long lock down and now have to face the possibility of a national lockdown.
Peoples mental health will suffer hugely if this happens, business here in Kildare are already very close to closing for good if lockdown isn’t lifted.
They would have any to think very carefully before even considering a lockdown.. I definitely feel it would do more harm than good in the long run ..

Just noting by way of comparison:
The Italian government is not considering new lockdown to curb coronavirus infections, Health Minister Roberto Speranza said in a newspaper interview on Sunday, despite a steady rise in new cases over the past month.

In summary - cases are on the rise but there are less than 100 cases in ICU and they have doubled their ICU capacity from the start of the crisis when there were 4000 cases in ICU.

Great video from TD Michael McNamara questioning health minister Stephen Donnelly after he mentioned the possibility of another national Lockdown. Not surprised to see Donnelly mention that's it's NPHET's position in relation to the possiblity of further lockdowns.

From what I can gather we are the only country in the eu that still dont have our pubs open 100%. The sheer size of our country makes it an easy target for a national lockdown.

Obesity increases the risk of death by Covid by 50%
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/26/obesity-increases-risk-of-covid-19-death-by-48-study-finds

Covid is dangerous for elderly people - surely those people , those at risk , should cocoon rather than lockdown the whole country and creating more and more problems ?

The problem with this is how do you implement it in reality? Nursing homes need staff. Hospitals need staff. People with immune disorders live with their families and go to work. Unless you want all those staff and families of the most vulnerable to also isolate this is not workable.

I am hoping this is kite flying along the lines of you need to abide by the current restrictions or else... rather than their next option:

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has warned the State is in a “fluid” situation as the Government tries to avoid another lockdown.
Mr Martin said that as the number of Covid-19 cases rises, the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) is “constantly wary” of moving closer to further restrictions.
Mr Martin said that while efforts are made to try and avoid a second lockdown, he warned that the “danger and challenge is always there”.

I think we should introduce a fat tax to pay for this crisis. Anyone with a BMI above normal has to an pay an extra 5% USC and or gets their social welfare cut by 10%. It could even be on a rolling scale - he higher your BMI the more you pay! The country wouldn't be long getting healthier then :-)

Yes because the taxes on alcohol and cigarettes have certainly stopped people drinking and smoking.

A second national lockdown in this country would be proof that the policy of mandatory mask-wearing is futile.
