    Rodgers in talks.

    He's coming back.

Taking an awful long time to finalise this, has an Eddie Howe feeling about it all. Rodgers has been "on the brink" of signing all week according to the papers. Something to do with Kennedy and whether he leaves or stays. If it's not done within the next couple of days we need to move on, we fannied around too long waiting for Howe.

Yeah a little worrying now, thought it would've been wrapped up yesterday or today and it's all gone very quiet

Looks like the deal has been done and Rodgers will be out manager.

Great to get him back, can't wait to see what he can achieve this time around with a board that seems to be more clued in backing him and some decent funds available.

He's probably just checked his phone and seen a EPL vacancy at Bournemouth has arisen.

Can't share your enthusiasm about this one returning.

Delighted to see that Kennedy and the backroom staff are staying on as well now with Rodgers in place.

What are everyone’s thoughts on Brendan’s return? Certainly creates an interesting dynamic on a number of fronts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭Stewball

I'm happy enough to see him back. With the names that were doing the rounds I'm glad BR got the nod over some of them.

At least we know what we're getting.

If he does well in the CL, all will be forgiven.

Rodgers first signing confirmed. A young Norwegian midfielder Odin Thiago Holm on a 5 year deal. The 5 years could be genius if he fills his potential

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭US3

    Odin Thiago Holm (@CelticFC )

I talked to the people knowing him best. This is what they said:

Despite his young age (20), he demonstrates exceptional insight and maturity in the game. He possesses a remarkable level of skill with various types of play.

He thrives in a deep role, but he has also shown progress as a one-on-one offensive player and has become increasingly adept at bypassing opponents with his improved passing abilities.

Areas for his development include improving his agility and speed on the field, as well as enhancing his ability to win the ball in tight matches. While he relies heavily on his ability to read plays and anticipate ball movement, he could benefit from strengthening his physical presence in close encounters.

He's an Ange signing, deal was done before Rodgers came back.

Sounds extremely promising and exactly the type of player we need to be targeting.

just watched the press conference,im happy enough with him now,i was against him returning at first, but as Brendan says its like a relationship ,we have had our time apart so now were back together and ready to go forward together.IM getting a bit excited now even about the new season.Lets stay united and give the other shower a good skelping this season.Lets get to work.

Delighted with the return of Brendan. When Ange left it was disappointing but delighted with the outcome of all this. Brendan is a better manager than Ange. We’ve won a watch as they say in Glasgow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Exactly what we’ve been looking for especially in Europe. Abildagaard was an attempt to sign a player for that midfield role but didn’t really work out. This lad is young but if he’s good enough he’s old enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

A lot of talk this evening about Jota leaving for Saudi. Very disappointing to lose him and hope if it happens we absolutely cash in, I think Benfica are due 30%. Can't blame Jota if the wages being mentioned are true - 10m a year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,296 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

What a strange transfer if it is true. I am useless at telling considering I stated Ange was not going to f off down to London

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

I thought it was nonsense when it first broke but Stephen McGowan usually knows his stuff on Celtic news so maybe there is truth in it.

It is strange and doubt we planned for Jota leaving so we need to make sure our recruitment is good over the summer

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭US3

Fabrizo Romano saying its practically a done deal. 20m with 30% going to benfica is a shocking bit of business for celtic

Terrible business if all Celtic are getting is just under 14m. Should tell the Saudis to dig deeper but Jota wants away so he will throw a strop if we do not sell him to the butchers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,742 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

    Aaron Mooy retires

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭dom40

fixtures out for 23/24,away to the other shower on 3rd Sept at ipox,A good early skelping would just be what the doctor ordered.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

Jota leaving is really disappointing, if he was going to top top league, then fair enough. But leaving Celtic to go play in Saudi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,296 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

The bad news keep coming, Celtic and Adidas - WTAF?

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭Stewball

    The black is awful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭dom40

Absolutely terrible home top, giving me sore eyes just looking at it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

Well firstly I suspect the final fee will likely be closer to 25m. Secondly 30% is not going to Benfica. It might be 30% of the profit we make on his transfer goes to Benfica but it is not 30% of his transfer fee. In the final analysis it is looking like we will make a profit after Benfica get their cut of 10-12m on a player we only signed last summer. So absolutely gutted to lose such a good player in Jota and one who was one of my own favourites from Ange's team. But given the circumstances not much we can do given the amount of money the disgusting Saudi regime are prepared to spent when it comes to sportswashing their dictatorships money and the players willingness to accept said money.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Jota officially gone for 25m. Hopefully we're working on bringing in some quality in the next few weeks.

Was a joy to watch during his 2 years in the hoops. Good deal for us from a financial standpoint and when you consider what he is making in wages this was always going to happen so good that we got a solid fee for him. Even after Benfica get their cut from the profit we still made a very healthy profit on a player who was not with us that long.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

A bit unexpected but Kyogo signs a new 4 year deal. Great news to be keeping him

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭dom40

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭US3

Hope all the jota money is available to reinvest in to the team this summer. With automatic qualification to the CL aswell Brendan should have a war chest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

This is good news, was worried after Jota's departure and talk of Hatate leaving that Kyogo would be away as well.

Playing Wolves in the Aviva on 29th July.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,101 ✭✭✭SaoPaulo41

Anyone got a link for presale?

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭Stewball

Tickets are quite expensive for a friendly. 35e for the nosebleed sections. 65e in the bottom tier.

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭US3

It's cheaper to watch a champions league match, mental. Not a bit surprised though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,048 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Wolves?

I was going to go, but not sure if it's worth it now travelling all the way to Dublin for a friendly.

Last pre-season friendly tonight in the James Forrest testimonial against Atlethico Bilboa. Finished 3-2 with some nice goals

    1-1

    2-2

    3-2

Yes great second half performance ,Roll on Saturday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭US3

What was the story the ultras last night was it a protest against Rogers? Pretty **** not to turn up last night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,877 ✭✭✭Pogue eile

Disgraceful carry on and James Forrest deserved better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,195 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

3 nil at half time. 2 for Turnbull including a pen and Kyogo the scorers. First 15 mins were brutal with Hart fortunate not to gift them a goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,195 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

    Need to sign a keeper

  • Registered Users Posts: 254 ✭✭dom40

Just an ok performance from us today we will need to be better against Aberdeen next week,Ross County really came at us in the first half,I lost count of how many corners they had.Joe Hart really poor for that 1st goal flapping like a seagull instead of just punching the ball away, definitely agree we need a new keeper now.I like Big Joe and he done really well when he came in at first when we were really struggling but it's time for change.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

As said, it was an ok performance.

We've a lot of work to do in the transfer window to improve the squad. Need a new GK, a new CB with Starfelt looking like he'll be leaving. Also need a quality replacement for Jota.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

A bang average performance to start the season but hopefully a couple of big signings to help bolster the squad for the CL and provide an injection of quality. Kyogo played well but when he went off it wasn’t Oh that was subbed on and for the rest of the game we had nothing up front to build anything with.

The other lot lost their first game away to Kilmarnock. Pleasing.
