    Fun Facts

The Ink Spots I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire
The Ink Spots were an American vocal jazz group who gained international fame in the 1930s and 1940s. Their unique musical style presaged the rhythm and blues and rock and roll musical genres, and the subgenre doo-wop. The Ink Spots were widely accepted in both the white and black communities, largely due to the ballad style introduced to the group by lead singer Bill Kenny.

In 1989, the Ink Spots (Bill Kenny, Charlie Fuqua, Deek Watson, Jerry Daniels and Orville Jones) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 1999 they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Since the Ink Spots disbanded in 1954, there have been well over 100 vocal groups calling themselves "The Ink Spots" without any right to the name, and without any original members of the group. It has often been the case that these groups claimed to be "2nd generation" or "3rd generation" Ink Spots

"I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" is a pop song written by Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Sol Marcus and Eddie Seiler. It was written in 1938, but was first recorded three years later by Harlan Leonard and His Rockets. It was covered by several musicians and groups, most successfully by Horace Heidt on Columbia Records, whose version reached number one on the US pop chart; and by The Ink Spots on Decca, whose version reached number 4 on the same listing.

    Shanice I Love Your Smile
The song features a saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis as well as laughter from Janet Jackson and René Elizondo Jr. near the end of the song. The track was produced by Louis Biancaniello, with vocals produced by Narada Michael Walden. The radio version of the song removes the rap bridge from the album version.

It peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 behind "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me" by George Michael and Elton John and "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred, and it topped the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks for 4 weeks in December 1991 and January 1992. In Europe, it peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart and reached the top of the Dutch Top 40 in the Netherlands. The single also peaked within the top ten on the charts in Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Australia and Austria. In 1992, it was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

Fun Fact: You Really Got A Hold On Me didn't have LeVar Burton in the music video, so it obviously never stood a chance... ;)
