Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bruno comes good again for 1-0. Awful mix-up at the back from Sociedad. Poor communication.

And now he gets another after a VAR check! Sociedad up against it now.

Lovely goal by Rashford for 3-0. Looks like the tie is over already.

4-0 thanks to James and it's not a flattering scoreline. Sociedad have been well beaten.

Bloody hell, some free from Benfica. Well poised game now. 1-1 on the night, 2-2 on aggregate.

I've a feeling I'm going to have to recalibrate my midweek football schedule.

    Absolute shambles from Arsenal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,109 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Only Arsenal could play both games away and still lose out on away goal rule.

Hats off to Steven Gerrard he's making Scottish football quite exciting again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,022 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Glad to see Arsenal get through with a regular scoreline. Would've been a bit ridiculous to go out on away goals without ever playing a home game.

Poor old Benfica never have much luck in Europe. Aside from losing the last 10 European finals they've featured in, year in year out, they've been the strongest team in Portugal the last 6 years or so. Yet seem to watch Porto in the Champions League knock-out rounds every year, having been dumped out of Europe's second competition

Christ what on earth is Lindelof at there. Feel bad for Tuanzebe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That should be a red card for Lindelof. Did he think he was in Mortal Kombat? Kneed the opponent in the head, who was standing upright, and he only got a yellow card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,821 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

    How is that only yellow,
Hey kneed someone in the head off the ground,

Surprised that wasn't a red for Lindelof.

Absolutely not meant, but if you jump up that high with a knee out like that and catch somebody in the head, it intent doesn't matter.

Looking at this, it fits 'reckless' more than 'excessive force' I suppose, but there's also no question he endangered the safety of an opponent.
Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned

Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off

I didn't. Leverkusen are on an awful run. They've only won 3 of their last 14 games. Hoffenheim are only slightly better having won 4 of their last 15 games.

It isn't for all the money they spend anyway!

I still expected them to get through this round after winning their respective groups and getting favourable draws in Molde and Young Boys.

United and Spurs are probably the two favs but I’d take Roma at a decent price.

It's three months since the won those groups though. Leverkusen were in great form back then. But as I said they've won only 3 times since.

Real Sociedad were top of La Liga when the draw was made and people were saying that they'd be a tough draw for United. They're 5th now. Three months is a long time in football.

Cracking goal for Milan after having one disallowed earlier.

    Edit; VAR disallows it damn.

Disallowed for handball? Didn’t look it.

They need to show us better replays. Doesn't look like much of a handball.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Hard to see the handball was from that replay.

One of the worst VAR decisions I've seen. Not a single Man U player even blinked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

    Way harsh on that replay.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,937 ✭✭✭omega man

There must be a magic angle we haven’t seen yet otherwise that’s a scandalous decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,694 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

No real complaints from the Milan player but even on the replays we've seen so far, I didn't see any contact with the hand. There must be another angle, but if so, why not ensure the TV channels get it and show it right away.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

The later replays seemed to show the handball.

That was a cracking miss by Maguire though. Harder to miss than score that.

Fully deserved goal for Milan, Matic probably at fault.

    Keeper was awful there.

    Massive goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,694 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

Got to be frustrating for MUFC fans to see them needlessy adopt a 'last ditch' defence approach when Milan didn't force them into it. Terrible gosl to give away also, free header and weak keeping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

P1ss poor keeping there. He should be saving that.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,246 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Ole might have to take some blame too I think. Utd were on top and went too defensive too. Taking off Fernandes so early was not the best thing to do. There was a second there for Utd I think, which would have surely given them a great opportunity. Gave too much credit to Milan, they were not that good tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Good result for Gerrard and Rangers getting the away draw with the away goal.

If you showed me that game 10 years ago and said it was between united and ac milan I wouldn't have believed you. Very poor quality from both teams. I'd have been equally surprised if you told me both teams were going to be battling it out against each other in the europa league but both teams looked at that level tonight.
