Its embarrassing that this is a player first reaction ,
He quickly thought "what the hell am I doing "

What do you reckon is a season be seen as successful if you start in the champions league & end up winning the Europa League ?

It's a bit of a mad one, you've kind of failed to succeed.

Timing perspective. If at the start of the season you were asked you can get a Europa Final or a knockout stages of CL. I would imagine most would take CL and battle it out.

Bit like a game of Football. You go 1-0. All of a sudden you're 1-2 down with 5mins to go and you score a 90th minute equaliser. It's not Ideal but you'll take it all day. But you wouldn't have taken that at 1-0 if that makes sense.

Man United have been very sloppy in possession in the first half, but Granada have absolutely no threat up front at all.

I think that can sometimes happen when you know the opposition are not going to do anything with it anyway, you get a bit lazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭jacool

Man Utd are so casual here its not even funny.
Bruno has missed the goal twice with really good chances and then tried a ridiculous ball through to Cavani (I think!).
Cavani and Pogba have both been in good moves but gone for the fancy pass instead of the simple one and given up chances as well.
Just as well the tie is done and dusted now.
All Ole has to do is substitute off Pogba now, before he goes and "does a Fred".
Both sides playing so badly this could remain at 1-0.
Matic stands out here because he hasn't wasted a ball yet, and the opposition seem afraid to lay a glove on him, whereas they have no issue kicking almost everybody else.

Ajax don't deserve to go out. Hopefully they get a goal

Feel sorry for Ajax. Can't remember the last major European knock-out tie I watched them in that they weren't disallowed a goal with VAR. Seem's to harass them in every crunch tie. They get no luck

But the goal was correctly disallowed. Ajax didn't create very much after that and Roma while not particularly good didn't give up too many chances especially after Dzeko scored. Roma are in a bit of trouble for the first leg against United, I think two of the centre back Mancini and Cristante are suspended.

I know it was, but in the past they had good goals disallowed at crunch moments. Rightly or wrongly, they always seemed to get pulled back

Their fans are hardly worse than many others

I was at the Prague Derby in March last year. The Sparta fans were clearly monkey chanting at times and have a far worse reputation for racism.

No idea why Ajax didn't just keep pumping balls over the top at Roma after their first goal, the back 3 couldn't handle them.

They spent far too much time sticking to their guns by trying to walk it in, even in the dying minutes they were far too slow in getting it forward, fannying about passing it across the back waiting for the perfect pass which wasn't happening with Roma pressing them hard.

They don't know how to play any other way

Second Roma player gone off now, their keeper.

Niall Quinn's basic understanding of the rules is pretty funny. Seems to think when a goalie is injured and receives attention he needs to leave the pitch and come back on like a outfield player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Roma have had rotten luck with injuries thus far. 2 subs after less than half an hour. Their keeper has gone off now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

    Arsenal 2 down now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Villarreal make it 2-0. Poor defending from Arsenal at the corner.

Not sure how, but Roma take the lead Dzeko, played it off his right knee onto his left leg and into the goal.

That is hilariously bad defending by United. 2-1 Roma. It was good play from Roma's point of view.

Lovely goal... two smashing goals scored through nice quick interplay between the lines in one game - sure we're only blessed.

    That's shocking from United

Dropping like flies, a 3rd sub on for Roma in the first half.

This is madness. Roma have used 3 subs after only 36 minutes.

Foyth causing Arsenal loads of problems with those runs forward.

Spurs should sell Doherty and bring him back.

Can only make more substitutions at halftime now, silly rule.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,246 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Awful by Roma, passing across the box like that, Cavani not able to take advantage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Roma could be losing more players over the half-time break.

Seems silly, but makes sense in fairness... you just know if they were allowed to make them at any time that lads like Jose would be making 3 or 4 individual subs in the last few minutes to kill the game.

Usually it's grand - just looks weird in a situation like tonight with so many first half injuries.

How're Arsenal playing? 2-0 down I know, but does that reflect the game? Seems mad to not play with a recognised senior CF, with Aubamayang sitting on the bench.

United will have to score a couple in the 2nd half. All the onus is on them now, especially with the unique scenario of this game.

Roma have already lost 3 players to injury and won't be able to make subs as the players tire later in the half even while having 2 remaining subs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,694 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

Spinazzola looked excellent until he went off injured.

Highlight of the first half was Niall Quinn thinking that play would go on while the Roma keeper would be waiting on the sidelines to be waved back on to the pitch by the ref.

Interesting enough game, but some awfully sloppy stuff from both sides.

De Gea with a truly awful kick against Dzeko.

Old boy strikers hitting the target tonight

Bruno is some player. What a finish. But how can BT pundits think that wasn’t a penalty? Slid with both hands up? Stupid and it was a pen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Arsenal down to 10 Cebellos off with a second yellow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,022 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Why didn't Bruno just strike it, looked perfectly set for him, and was in a better position than Cavani behind.

It was a penalty based on the rules.

Their issue is that the rule for something like that is fuppin stupid.

    It was clearly accidental.

Arsenal could lose this tie tonight. Don't see them coming back from 3-0.
