Pal if you're in the life especially a top hitter like mago with a few under your belt you dont ever cooperate with the garda and never ever make a statement no matter what.

Det Gda Finbarr Fleming, of Santry garda station, said that James Gately had given a statement to gardaí about the shooting but did not come to court to give evidence.
The garda also said he had been in contact with Gately and that he didn't wish to give a victim impact statement.

giving his own movements info & not mentioning anyone else is not snitching but some will stick with the never say a word to cops regardless line.

Secondly he probably thought he was gonna die. Who wouldn’t after getting shot 5 times including the face and might have named him. If some interprets that as snitching then hey ho I guess.

You think, I could name 4 just off the top of me head from coolock that were shot and wouldn't open their mouth to the garda. One jp b had a bullet lodged in his nose after it went through his neck and he couldn't speak so wrote a note in his hospital bed telling them to fu(k off hed sort out his own problems

Now I think about it, there was talk of Smyth being the nephew of the Don on here a while ago, maybe this was more of a personal hit then what it appears because it seemed so poorly planned and executed.
