Italy at +947 today, getting close the 4-figure numbers again.
    France +4,586
Czechia almost hitting it's original peak numbers, but in the 300s

There does seem to be a trend in Europe, not quite as sharp as initially, some are levelling or dropping, some on the way up. Likely far more testing everywhere but one to watch.

That's really for social media consumption. No real reason to do so apart giving the Opposition even more oxygen to do what they are doing now.

You don't believe the return to schools or the current crisis deserves debate in DE?

Sure it is regulated but what type of point is that? Tell that to people with life changing injuries.

You are completely missing my point but seems to be quite normal among all the doom merchants on here.

We are faced with risk every day and 'unknowns' as another poster mentioned. I am not going to live my life in fear otherwise I would never get into a car if I sat around thinking about the death rates and horrific injuries suffered. Likewise I am not going to dwell and fret on the possibility that I might get C19 or pass it on unknowingly.

Driving is a perfect example. You are able to drive around, but deaths have been reduced to a tenth of what they were. Wearing a seatbelt or stopping at a red light might be a nuisance but responsible people do it, likewisr with wearing a mask to staying 2m away. Likewise with Covid you can live your life, you just have to avoid certain dangerous actions.

Had boards existed 50 year ago you'd probably have been condemning seat belts as something promoted by 'doom merchants'.

Give it a week or so, Cahir meat factory might produce a lot, I've been told again today about a case in another tipperary meat factory..

This might not represent a real change but just proper testing in these places.

Is there no AC in government buildings, sweat pumping out of MM on RTE1? Looks like really unhealthy place that Covid would spread.

A minister who behaved badly and resigned is a FF crisis. Until the school return actually happens what are they going to be debating? It's a civil service/DoH/HSE issue and would more likely end up before a committee.

    Of the cases notified today:

39 are men and 40 are women
73% are under 45 years of age
30 are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
21 cases have been identified as community transmission
43 are in Dublin, 9 in Kildare, 6 in Cork, 6 in Tipperary and the remaining 15 cases are in Clare, Donegal, Laois, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Roscommon, Wexford and Wicklow

My source said 10 in Kildare so thats the one he went over on, Still not bad

If MM keeps making a mess of things, id say Leo will walk it, certainly of it falls apart this side of Christmas, there'll be plenty of ff voters who will see the shambles that they've made of covid so far and switch to fg.

I was actually on about the increase in cases, DP centres, abattoirs, etc. A game of golf and FG/FF skullduggery doesn't really concern me.

Fair enough but it's also beyond their influence. It's HSE testing and contact tracing that will address all of that.

SF haven't exactly covered themselves with glory in adhering to Covid guidelines.

I think we need a genuine national government as no politician wants to make the decisions we are facing. If we can't get that, let's have Leo back. Although Harris looked wrecked I thought, so that might be too much to ask.

For once I have sympathy for politicians. They are facing a set of impossible but necessary decisions, and the alternative is possibly large-scale suffering and death. Who is going to tell the country that you can't go visit your relatives for Christmas dinner this year?

Listening to MM here on RTÉ. How does he know scientifically that the numbers decrease of infection in LOK is as a result of the lockdown ? How does he know that the numbers would not have decreased even without this localised lockdown? Looks very like a Correlation/Causation fallacy he’s muttering there.

That's why avoiding contacts for the rest of the population is vital to the plans. If 80% of the population can keep the risk of transmission to a minimum and schools take as many precautions as practicable then we could keep the R0 at a manageable level. It's a big ask but seems to be the only option at the moment.

So we're relying on the likes of assetbacked avoiding foreign travel, etc. Yeah, we'll see how that plan turns out I guess.
