So to be against paedophilic imagery is to be a Nazi now? Good to know

The American far right Qanon stance is that if you're not railing at every moment against cannibalistic paedophiles then you're complicit. Which is just as ridiculous as, but very similar to, your inference above.

+1. She's actually examining and pointing to the very issues that the OP brings up, the sexualisation of children, the social media impact on them etc.

During my research, I saw that all these young girls I’d met were very exposed on social media. And with new social codes, the ways of presenting yourself change. I saw that some very young girls were followed by 400,000 people on social media and I tried to understand why. There were no particular reasons, besides the fact that they had posted sexy or at least revealing pictures: that is what had brought them this “fame.” Today, the sexier and the more objectified a woman is, the more value she has in the eyes of social media. And when you’re 11, you don’t really understand all these mechanisms, but you tend to mimic, to do the same thing as others in order to get a similar result. I think it is urgent that we talk about it, that a debate be had on the subject.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Can you post proof that the image was doctored?
Because if you can't, it suggests by virtue of you saying it was doctored..that you find it problematic.

I don't really have any interest in googling images of child sexualisation.
Whether real-life, fictional, or GGI. I'm sure you understand.

Can you point to any source for where the picture came from?
That’s a bit of a jump in fairness.
There’s a lot of complaints about it when you google it.

I'm not suggesting the movie isn't real, and a controversial subject matter that will gather complaints.

How did I know that certain posters would frame reaction to this as a left/right thing? Is there anything that can't be spun that way nowadays?

Saw about this on twitter earlier and thought it was absolutely gross. Perhaps I've been misled though. Will wait for someone to post some evidence one way or the other before ultimately making judgement, I don't really want to look for myself in case it's something I really really don't want to see.

Not suggesting that you're wrong, but do you have a citation for that? Haven't heard of that before.

    Yeah waiting on that too

In fairness, from some of the other things which have been posted including the interview with the director and the general response from people who've watched it, it does seem largely innocent enough, and a critique of the social pressures, influences and downright misunderstandings of children of that age which can lead to these things. However if the poster in the OP is a genuine Netflix poster then it seems Netflix went out of their way to be as provocative and sensationalist in their advertising for it.

It looks horribly photoshopped regardless, but I'd just like to see the evidence that it was something someone else created and not a genuine Netflix poster.

Netflix has an upcoming film "Cuties" which features an 11 year old from a conservative family who joins a dance group specialising in sexually provocative Twerking routines. The sexualisation of children is quite out in the open at this stage.

    11 year olds...

    Ya sound a bit disappointed.
Seems like either the OP clickbaited you or else youtube is collecting details of people who watch that video to pass them onto the cops as a list of possible paedos. Expect a knock on your front door

By the way OP, good on you for alerting the public that this filth exists .... and also for copying and distributing some of same said photos to a wider audience.
Expect a knock on my front door for watching a link to youtube of a trailer of a film thats on Netflix. OK

I see children dancing and having fun with their friends from different backgrounds. If you see anything else perhaps you need to look at yourself. Nothing in the trailer would suggest to me it is trying to "sexualise" children!

Did you see the photo in the OP. Are you telling people you don't find that depraved?

I was expecting much worse (or even just something bad) judging by the poster - but the trailer looks to be more aware of itself.

Maybe this film just isn't aimed at old straight men.

I think its the promotional picture that is a bad idea. A really bad idea.

I don't think the original French version used the picture.

I’m a left wing socialist and I think this is vile. Completely depraved.

Twerking is an inherently sexualised form of dancing, the poses these girls are making are imitations of sexual exhibitionism - whether they’re aware of it or not. It’s the equivalent of giving small children Playboy paraphernalia, clothes with suggestive lettering across the backside and Child beauty pageants etc.

I honestly don’t know how people can look at this and not bat an eyelid.

If that trailer offends you, then you are a pedo or have some attraction to children.

Yeah, the people who oppose sexualisation of children are the pedophiles while those who want to indulge it are open-minded is it? Rubbish.

The fact you can identify a dynamic of sexualisation and are opposed to it doesn’t mean you’re a nonce for f*ck’s sake. I don’t know why you feel the need to defend this as entirely innocuous when it’s blatantly obvious that it isn’t.

But the film seems to be about a young girl escaping her strict conservative background and finding a (I think the trailer implied: questionable) outlet with some new friends.

I didn't get a sense that it was glorifying or even endorsing anything, but then I (we?) haven't seen or heard how it all plays out. I'd be anticipating some moral message in there before the end.

A binary way of looking at and perceiving the world is rather appealing don't you think? Rather than acknowledging nuance and endless complexity it's much simpler to frame it simplistically as left v right.

Netflix Apologizes For “Inappropriate” ‘Cuties’ Poster That Was Criticized For Sexualizing Children

So , the issue is with the crappy promo image that someone in Netflix used for the US release , not with the actual Movie , the content of which bears no resemblance to the Promo image.

Netflix have removed the promo image.

I think you are really (perhaps deliberately) missing the point of the movie entirely.

It is not saying "Hey , look at this great thing that kids are doing" , it's showing the reality of life for young teenagers and how difficult it is to avoid the pitfalls of Social media etc.

Based on the promo and the interview with the director , there's no "glorifying" going on at all.

There was nothing in the trailer. Looked like an interesting film actually. It is the Netflix promotional material - now hastily withdrawn - that undoubtedly pornified kids. But a lot of people on here thought the poster looked fine it seems.

Jayziz I'd say they fit right in. Remember it was Netflix that had a drag queen refer to a 10 year old tomboy as a "top" recently and hardly anyone gave a shyte. Mind you this week there were photos of a former US President getting a neck massage from the sex slave of an international sex trafficker and everyone yawned and scrolled on.
