Parrott not even making the bench for Ipswich. Could be injured, but it really doesn't look like Paul Cook rates him.

He started for their Under 23s today and they lost 1-0

Jeysus, playing for the reserve side of the League One team he moved to on loan... this was not the plan!

Was it at least just to give him minutes returning form injury or something? Or is that just how far his stock has fallen there under Cook?

He's not been injured, Cook just doesn't rate him. After his first game in charge, he singled out Parrott for criticism. As a loan player, it was always going to be uphill sledding after that.

Parrott might as well go back to Spurs. Ipswich only have 6 games left in the season and aren't likely to make the play-off's. More than half the Ipswich team are out of contract at the end of the season, Cook is probably going to favour playing those lads to give them a chance to earn a new contract.

I don't understand how people get excited to come on here and post about Robinson getting a few goals for his club a week after not having a shot on target in 3 games for the Republic.

Keogh starting for Huddersfield. Hourihane and Manning start for Swansea. Westwood starts for Wednesday. Harness and Curtis starting for Portsmouth.

Long not even in the Bournemouth matchday squad. Maybe he's injured, but regardless this loan spell in the Championship doesn't really appear to be working out. At 34 it's not really looking great that he will ever play at the highest level again.

He reminds me of Heskey in his later years. Contributes but just does not score ever. 34 is a good age to go to America or China and make a few quid before putting the feet up.

Aaron Drinan ahead of Parrott will be a concern. Drinan will never be at International level and probably a League One striker at best. It does seem that Parrott has been vastly overrated due to a good record at Youth level.

Drinan is about four years older and a different type of forward. Parrot is more David McGoldrick, he's not going to be leading the line and looking to play on the shoulder of the defender. He'll be a play maker more than a goal scorer.

People should just forget about him for the next few years and let him develop physically. Has he got talent and technical ability, yes he does, but there's a reason we're more known for hard working players than lads for their technical ability, and it's because players are under developed before they move to England.

If he's more lazy and not putting the effort in ala Hourihane then someone will need to give him a kick up the hole before it's too late.

His attitude and the company he keeps might ultimately be his undoing.

It easily could, and it's no secret who he's mates with and who those lads are connected with. MTK also started up their own football agency, last thing we need is these lads influencing young Irish players.

Had heard second hand there are two sons in the Parrott family. Troy had the talent but questionable application. The other vice versa.

It’s beginning to look disappointing but he is still very very young. His performance against the Swedish under 21s away made me think we had a potential future 70 million talent on our hands and I’m not prone to getting carried away.

The same when it came to the Swedish game. Finally, we have a striker who seems to score goals with ease... at youth level.

I watched a few of the Ipswich games, there's no way you could accuse the guy of being lazy. If anything, he was one of the hardest working players on the pitch.

Looks like Parrott is set to go out on loan again next season. Spurs would like to send him to a Championship club, but Ipswich are still in the frame to extend his stay - https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-ipswich-town-hopeful-on-tottenham-agreement-with-pl-side-open-to-deal/

Ipswich have told midfielder Alan Judge he will not be appearing for the club again this season so as not to trigger a 12-month contract extension.
Aaron Drinan and Stephen Ward's contracts also expire at the end of the season, I would be surprised if either player had their contract renewed.

Their takeover happened last week, and I'd say there'll be a massive overhaul of the squad. Cook replacing Lambert at the time was supposedly the owners request before they even had the takeover finalised.

Derby go down to another defeat. Ebosele and Watson got some minutes, Knight unused sub. Just above the relegation spots. Worrying.

Assist for Jack Taylor. Lovely lofted pass from the half way line over the Northampton defence that a Peterborough attacker latched onto and put home.

It's only League 1, but Taylor looks head and shoulders above everyone else at this level. Don't want to jinx it, but it's looking like this Peterborough team will be in the Championship next year, so will be interesting to see how he copes with the step up.

It's why I hope Derby go down. Knight needs to find a new club and the other young players should hopefully get more playing time.

Great presence of mind from seamus to keep his awareness while being transposed to the arsenal team of 2014.

I hope Kenny is taking note.

He's basically our best playmaker now in the final third since McGoldrick retired. You could probably move him into central midfield and he'd probably be our best midfielder even.

Interesting to see how long he continues to play at the level he's currently playing. He's got just over one year left on his Everton contract, but if they were to start managing his game time they'd get a few more seasons out of him. Given his football intelligence the lad could slot into a back three to prolong his career longer, even if he was to move on to less physical league in time if the legs start to slow down.

Ciaran Clark starts for Newcastle with Hendrick on the bench.

    Danny McNamara starts for Millwall.

Marcus Harness and Ronan Curtis start for Portsmouth. Anthony Scully starts for Lincoln with Sean Roughan on the bench.

Lee O'Connor starts for Tranmere in midfield.

Coventry on the bench for West Ham.

Hourihane and Manning start for Swansea. Browne and Cunningham start for Preston with Molumby and Maguire on the bench.

No Parrott in the Ipswich squad but McGuinness starts. Bazunu on the subs bench for Rochdale too.

Don't think so, he played with the U23s the other day. Cook seems to be giving lads game time as Drinan now drops out and McGuinness is back into the team. There's quite a few lads out of contract in the summer and they've got some money to spend. So I doubt the rumours that Ipswich are interested in bringing Parrott back on loan aren't true if he's not making squads now.

Don't know much about Paul Cook, but it definitely seems like he has had a bit of an agenda since he's taken charge. He criticised Parrott in the media after just one game in charge. I remarked on it at the time, as it seems like a really low class thing for a manager to do to a 19 year old kid on loan. He actually started Drinan last week which was baffling. With all due respect to Drinan, he looks quite a distance off being League 1 quality.

Here's some of the comments Cook made today. What sort of player is going to be motivated by that?

I could be wrong but was Cook in charge of Wigan when Jack Byrne was there too?

  • Registered Users Posts: 925 ✭✭✭TheadoreT

Championship looks miles beyond Parrotts talents right now, probably needs to go a couple of leagues lower to find his groove in the senior game. Not a great deal to indicate he's much of a future prospect for us, the fact he has 4 CAPS despite doing nothing at any credible level in football shows the state we're in right now.

Think Byrne joined the January before Cook came in and joined Oldham the following January.

It's clear he was brought in to overhaul the Ipswich squad. The new owners wanted him as manager before the deal to buy Ipswich was officially sorted. Judge told he won't play again because he'll extend his contract if he plays again, Spurs probably have no interest in sending Parrott back there on loan so he's out of their plans for the remaining games.

Cook has won promotion three times since returning to England, each time his team went up as champions. Ipswich owners have brought in someone that gets his team's promoted and will probably back him in his decisions.

Should be looking outside of England rather than thinking about dropping a couple of divisions. Again it shows how neglected that Irish football is when your own league isn't even strong enough for our talented young players to develop at senior level.

Newcastle two nil up, Swansea two nil down, and Brentford drawing with Millwall. Sheffield United will be relegated tonight if Newcastle win and they lose to Wolves. Norwich will be promoted if Swansea and Brentford don't win, or if they beat Bournemouth tonight.

Are you personally related to Parrott? Why do you keep whinging on as if he is being persecuted unfairly by a manager who is there to overhaul the club? You're going on like a teenager every time you refer to the situation.

I don't think Jay O'Shea is the answer for us really. Even if he was, I'm not sure it would be feasible to play for Ireland while playing in Australia, just based on the travel and logistics.

Are there any examples of players at all playing club football in Australia and featuring regularly in European qualifiers?

I watch a lot of the A-League. Lived there for a few years and have maintained an interest in it ever since. Honestly he isn't,and will never be at this stage, the answer. He's a decent player in the A-League but he isn't pulling up any trees.
