    James McClean is absolute muck.

Good to see Mick McCarthy still earning a crust out of our International team. He's only out of the managers job a wet week with a wheelbarrow full of cash and he's immediately called upon to commentate on his successor's performance and no doubt for a nice few bob, too. For some the gravey train never ends.

    Huh?

You almost sound like you're blaming McCarthy for earning a living.

Mick again perpetuating his myth of Shane Long being injured for his entire tenure.

O'Shea and Knight are understood to be leaving the u21s squad in Italy to join up with the seniors for the Finland game.

Unless the U21s is cancelled that's poor form, especially O'Shea being the captain. Dunne has played games this season and plays with Long at club level. Plus both lads will probably be used to add numbers to the bench only.

McCarthy-like selection once again. There are options on the bench more suited to the style Kenny said he wanted to show. We need to see signs of something today.

Does seem like he is trying to get / keep senior players on side with his selection

Also called him a ‘target man’ earlier. He’s about 5’8”.

Edit: 5’11” according to, wiki but having seen him I really don’t think he is

I'd rather i never heard him commentate again. Never mind all of Irelands matches. Each to their own.

Should watch it on S4C, commentary is much better!

shane long, one of the best in the game apparently at running the channels.

maybe its just me....every time we play out from the back, do the CM's just disappear?

What myth! He was!!! He left 2 of his Ireland squads injured.

He wasn't. That's a fact. He was left out of squads, and James Collins was selected ahead of him.

Dara O'Shea should have been in the senior squad on merit to begin with. And with his versatility, there would have been no problem.

Kenny is having no luck in this window.

keepers get waaay too much protection these days!

Lucky not to concede a pen there. Surprisingly poor from Randolph. The way he jumped up when the ref blew the whistle it looked like he thought he had conceded the penalty.

Poor strike from Brady. Has to be hitting the target at least.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

Sloppy play by Christie to give away the free kick and Randolph to drop the corner. No penalty for me.

Brady has to hit the target there, christ.

None whatsoever. O'Shea supposedly leaving to join the senior squad and that was before Kevin Long even got injured.

First time in 45 years that the starting XI consisted of all players born on the island of Ireland.

Our best and only chance! Boys in Mountjoy have asked to go back to their cells.

Def not a pen. Not sure why they are saying Randolph clattered him, he made slight contact on his head, a pat on the head. And he went down as if he was punched. A total dive.

He’s one glory hunting b*******. Did you see him the other night taking the ball off Hourihane to take a complete s*** free kick. Someone needs to give him a dig.

Only tuning in now. I know Long is off for Christie but Is Doherty playing centre back?!

His set pieces are over rated. No idea why he has a rep for being good.
    He’s no Ian Harte.

trying to make himself invaluable as the designated set piece taker.

Yes, moved to CB once Long went off.

No one else on the bench to play CB tbf.

This is a game we can win if we click in the final third. Pity all our wide players are out.

Good ball there but they're too infrequent.

I'd have Hourihane on set pieces all day long over Brady, not sure why he's been taken off them.

Great free by Brady. He has a decent left peg on him. Ireland have been the better team but hard to know how serious Wales are taking the game.

    0-0 at ht

Which is especially annoying as we really should be winning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭Chalk McHugh

Hasn't been great but i expected even worse. At least Ireland showing a bit of effort.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,672 ✭✭✭ScummyMan

Not too bad, missing a final ball as usual

Brady is badly over the hill, not sure what Kenny has to lose by giving Byrne a run out

Obafemi really should be in the senior squad instead of being relegated to the under 21's.

Especially when you consider the players ruled out for us.

Poor half of football. The kind of half that if MON or McCarthy served up would be causing outrage on here and demands for a coach that will 'play football'. Hennessey a spectator. Our best chances coming from set-pieces and Wilson passing it to Brady who wasted it. Kenny's decision to leave out a versatile Premier League defender who can play across the backline also coming back to haunt him. Molumby has looked good at times but little to be positive about.

We definitely should call up 2 more wide players for Finland.

Thought we were the better team for the last 20 minutes, its not great overall tho

I think there is no harm in playing the odd one over the top when Wales push up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,349 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    Don't think its that bad.

    its far from good.

the actual ball playing is pretty terrible. most of the time its long balls cos the midfield is hiding.

I think that’s more a hindsight opinion to have.
The 4 lads picked to cover centre back are all more experienced.
If it wasn’t for the covid issues we wouldn’t even be saying O’Shea should be included.
    His time will come soon.

I dont think it has been that bad, very few chances but we have played a bit more football than we used to. Wales passed us off the pitch the last two times we played them, if anything we've probably had more of the play today. And that's with literally half the squad missing at the last minute.

Watching these "playing at a higher level" players struggle to create anything is mind numbing. Long is a cone.

Wales have created the better opportunities and are taking shots on goal from the d. Ireland would pass it slowly out wide to try win a corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭franglan

Molumby going forward has some showing some ambition. Has the feeling of a June friendly with 1 to 11 on both teams on the holiday plane.

    Zzzzz

Bring on Byrne , shur he can’t do less
