Parrott seems be getting the thumbs up going by Millwall fans anyway.

Last night was meant be best game, but he played out wide and some fans were saying he was wasted out there.

Was big things expected of this Shane Flynn kid so hopefully he push into the 1st team in next season or two.

Interestingly it doesn't look like an exemption for FAI youth currently.

Kelleher leading the poll as the most impressive goalkeeper in Europe this week.

He’ll have to get this framed to put over the mantelpiece.

Robbie Brady scores for Burnley. A right footed strike no less.

That young lad at Getafe came on as a sub for his debut today. They had man sent off early and lost 3-0

Good stuff. I know flash score has him listed as Spanish which probably makes sense if it's first nationality. I assume he has never declared for us or yet to show any intention. I suppose he's young and with fierce competition in Spain it is possible that he does. Just wondering has anyone any more idea on it but certainly worth keeping an eye on.

I see Parrott was benched today but not too worried about that. Started two matches in a week playing an hour or more. It might suit him coming on in the second half against tiring defence.

World Cup qualifying groups being drawn tomorrow (Monday) at 5pm.

Let's hope the stadia can be open for (some) fans by March 2021.

Very hard to qualify for the World Cup

Only just spotted McCarthy is now managing in Cyprus. And people reckon Kenny doesn't have a strong enough CV.

The post employment of our last 2 managers before Kenny reads -
Nottingham Forrest - disaster/doesn't manage again and Cyprus.

The agents of these dinosaurs must have been licking their lips when the FAI rocked up with €2 million salary packages.

You could go back further, Trap effectively retired - he manages the Vatican team, Staunton had a couple of assistant/coaching roles, Kerr went back to St. Pats and on to the Faroes

Doherty not in Spurs squad today and doesn’t seem to be injured. Was apparently dreadful midweek. Myth that he’s effective in a back four well and truly busted at this stage.

Do tell us how you've come to this conclusion? Seeing as Doherty started 6 of Spurs 8 league games before testing positive for Covid. Has started more league games and games in Europe, but the myth of him being effective in a back four has been busted because he was poor in a game after coming back from Covid.

Being televised on RTE News Channel. Seedings below. 5 x 6 team groups and 5 x 5 team groups - four of these containing Nations League semifinalists. Bolding is my own preference. Have never been to any of these countries and on the “easier” side of things IMO.

Pot 1: Belgium, France, England, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands

Pot 2: Switzerland, Wales, Poland, Sweden, Austria, Ukraine, Serbia, Turkey, Slovakia, Romania

Pot 3: Russia, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Czech Republic, Norway, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Scotland, Greece, Finland

Pot 4: Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Israel, Belarus, Georgia, Luxembourg

Pot 5: Armenia, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Lithuania, Latvia, Andorra

Pot 6: Malta, Moldova, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar, San Marino

Can’t see us getting anything from Pot 1 with possible exception of Croatia (on a good day) and the inevitable shared points with Denmark.

Want to avoid Switzerland from Pot 2. Not sure if they’re underrated but certainly a far superior team to ourselves.

Pot 4 could be tricky. Bosnia can be hit and miss but think they’re better than this seeding. Georgia have proved themselves well able for us.

Again in Pot 5 there are a few teams I don’t think we’d get full points from. Avoid the long distance trips.

Pot 6 should all be winnable but God knows any more.

No doubt we get at least one of Denmark, Wales, Georgia or Gibraltar.

So what’s your best/worst case scenarios?

FWIW I don’t think we’ll qualify but can always dream. And even if we do, Qatar can still **** off.

There’s been pretty consistent criticism of his performances from spurs fans since he joined. He has looked very limited in his performances for them, and he’s been poor in pretty much every game he’s played for ireland...all in a back 4. He even said it himself recently that he has to learn that position as he didn’t have the same defensive responsibilities at Wolves.
Until ireland start playing a back 3, Coleman is much the better option at RB when both are fit.

Remarkable to see Luxembourg in Pot Four. I didn't think they would be in a tier above the Baltic States, although Latvia have collapsed in the FIFA rankings.

o Croatia or Denmark would be the best bet in Pot One. Might be possible to snatch a few points there. The rest of Pot One are too good for Ireland.

o Pot Two is interesting. They won't fear us, but we shouldn't fear them. Sweden, Poland and Switzerland would have the measure of us. Wales would be a decent opportunity.

o Pot Four worries would be Israel, Bosnia, North Macedonia and Albania.

In terms of places I'd like to visit :)

    Italy
    Austria
    Israel
    Faroe Islands
    Malta

Why are you limiting them to their 'post employment' record? You realise a manager's CV is a record of everything they have done in the game?

'Dinosaurs.' At least those two coaches you deride got us some wins, not to mention appearances at tournaments.

14th ranked league in Europe, and a team that has made it to the knockout stages of both the Champions League and Europa League in the last 10 years.

Kenny meanwhile got relegated in his one year in the 11th ranked league, and has spent the rest of his career in the 37th ranked league.

We'd all be getting our vaccines ready to head off to the Euros in the summer if he hadn't shafted Mick out of a job by insisting on being in charge for the playoffs

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭Stewball

    My WCQ draw scenarios.

    Worst
    France
    Switzerland
    Macedonia/Bosnia
    Armenia
    Malta

    Best
    Denmark
    Slovakia
    Bulgaria/Luxembourg
    Andorra
    San Marino

We'd struggle to finish 4th in the worst case draw and we'd have a chance of finishing 2nd in the best IMO.

I'd prefer if we only drew a 5 team group considering the March & September international windows are triple matchdays - having less travel and only two games to concentrate on will benefit SK & the team (as long as the FAI don't organise ridiculous friendlies).

Make no mistake about it, if Kelleher had started for United or Tottenham or any of the other top 6 sides people would be roaring for him to start in goal for Ireland aleady, but because it's Liverpool they can't see past the end of their own noses and try to take him down a peg or two. Making a CL debut against Ajax and a PL debut against Wolves is about as good as it gets for a 22 year old goalkeeper.

    What's this based on?
Before McCarthy started, we were all but guaranteed a play off via the nations league.
He then proceeds to finish 3rd in a 3 horse race with stellar results like a 1-0 in Gibraltar.

Georgia and Luxembourg scored the same amount of goals as us in qualifying (7).
Denmark were one shy of that in each of their games against Gibraltar.

You're absolutely dreaming if you think McCarthy would have suddenly found a way to find the goals we needed to get through the play offs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 925 ✭✭✭TheadoreT

I'd much rather see him at a lower premier league club or championship one right now. He'll soon be back to being consigned to League cup and the odd FA cup appearance at best for liverpool which wont really further his career. The longer he dwells as a number 2/3 the less other sides will want to take a risk on him. Being behind a 28 year old and arguably the best in the world is not particularly a strong career choice imo

he didn't do anything, we got to the playoffs by default. The only thing Mick could have done is helped us to avoid the playoffs by getting through via the qualifiers, something he made a total hash of.

I'm gonna trust the judgement of the goalkeeper himself and the management team of the best club in England on this matter.

Kelleher only ben a keeper for 6 years so still very much learning

He's at one of the best Clubs in the world ,
Has one of the best mangers in world football , some of the best coaches , trains with arguable the best keeper in the world and saving shots daily from some of the best attacker in the world ,

If he is now there number 2 he will get plenty of game time ,

Also lets not forget Alisson is injury prone for a keeper ,

No need for Kelleher to go any where just yet,

Not aware of any big issue between Leeds and Liverpool, in fact the Kop gave Revie's Leeds a standing ovation when they effectively wrapped up their first title at Anfield.

I was simply making the point that 1 or 2 games is really not enough on which to base predictions.

The two NL spots will be no good to us. They'll benefit top seeds not the likes of us.

Next to impossible for us to qualify for a World Cup. We obviously won't top a group and a play off is now an absolute wolf pit of 12 teams fighting for 3 spots.
