Matters not one jot whether NPHET would be fond of it or not, democracy innit

Yeah people talk like we are in some Doctor Dictatorship. The logistics would be a nightmare but an election is doable.

At the same time I still don't see another election until mid 2021 at the earliest. This issue isn't enough to bring down the Dail. It would be foolish given it took 5 months to put this shambles of a government together.

The opposition do not want another election. Why would they with all the damage FFG are self inflicting.

This Govt are no longer seen as trying their best but occasionally making mistakes, which people accept.

They are now seen as morons and they won't recover from that.

Whether they last or not is not going to change that

I totally agree with what you say.
I was just thinking of National Government until Covid allows go to the polls.

Just to chime in that for Coillte Bhoy too.
This would be my own thinking too, it's not a "good" option but it is the safest option until a safe election can be held.

It's curious the one main party you didn't mention?
As for this being the closest we've been? No, it's not we've had the rainbow coalition of 94-97 that was of a similar make-up.

FG's disgraceful behaviour is quite calculated, as the fallout isn't blowing back on them.
SF, why make any noise at all when the Govt are making all the mistakes needed to make them appear a viable alternative without their needing to utter a word.

I'd hazard the greens will suffer the usual fate of the junior party when election comes.
Eamon Ryan's snooze in the Dail won't win many repeat votes.

FF have all the wrong ministries. They are on a loser no matter what happens.
Leo needs to assess where the FF and Green seats will go to. FG might get some but SF, SDs and Labour will gobble the rest up. FF could end up with 15-20 if they called an election today. Dara and Barry would top the polls in Mayo/Offaly...

I just wonder who people would pick fo Taoiseach and the princible 5/6 Ministers from the lot of them.
I doubt if there be 10 in all parties who could cut-it at the top as MD for Ireland with the multi-nationals here.
    Just wondering across all parties...

What is an interesting observation from all of this, besides the blatant breach of the covid regulations by the elite class; is who was actually present at the Oireachtas golf society dinner - in order of increasing importance to the "establishment" there were journalist (important for getting the establishment's messages and propaganda out to the sheep (Joe public), next the Judiciary (important to enforce the establishment's laws), then the past and present members of the Oireachtas (important for enacting laws for the benefit of the "establishment") like the recent civil and criminal law (miscellaneous provisions) act 2020, and finally the lobbyists for the "establishment", the +3 that accompanied Mr Brian Hayes, CEO of the Banking and Payments Federation of Ireland.

Yep and the dinner was in honour of one of Charles Haughey's staunchest allies. He was one of the 'gang of 5'.

Election wouldnt really change anything much unless it gave Sf chance to lead a govt, not what we need right now and thats not being anti SF but now is not the time to dip your toes in govt for the very first time

Considering what we are currently looking at that bar isn't actually set very high.

SD's and Labour have very few decent candidates and those they do have are already their party core, that has shown over the last few election cycles.

Sinn Fein and Independents are far more likely to take the contestable seats.
Which is a danger to rational government in and of itself.

The FG party top brass really must be chuckling at the actual Clusterphuck that Meehole has presided over.
Even the FG scalps to go are blowing back on the "Government" rather than the FG enablers.

Leo knows if he bring down the government now that he will sail back into power.

The question is if he is willing to have a GE or not.

You think Leo’s going to bring down the government when Phil Hogan is the story of the day? Leo is not an idiot. The government won’t fall this year, it will stumble on for at least 12 months.

No election yet IMV, Covid or no Covid.

SF would clean up and be squeaky clean of course. I guess the media will be on high surveillance alert 24/7.

Anyway I am no SF supporter, but at this stage I'd be willing to see how they might govern the country. Has to happen sooner or later IMV. But right now is not the time IMV.

Not a hope Calleary would top the poll in Mayo, he doesnt really have any appeal outside FF and Ballina, he will hold his seat alright but thats about it

The bit about Varadkar and his carryon around the meetings Monday and Tuesday are well, revealing.

This would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious. We are seeing a huge upsurge in the virus days before schools open and weeks away from a possible hard Brexit and the government is falling apart before our very eyes.

We are now the laughing stock of Europe as we enter possibly the most crucial period of our lifetimes and all because of our cowardly self centred politicians. This is where decades of putting party before country screws us, royally.

    Shame on them all.

The golf outing in Clifden, it wasn't just FFers . Possibly the biggest head to roll will be Hogan late of the FG party.

Yes but they are at each others throats this week.

Hence Leo absent form the speech.

But they are conspiring to kill us all.....

Ultimately it is a game. They are playacting at being opposites...that is what Clifden has revealed.
Leo having a hissy fit was about his individual petulance and arrogance...at the end of the day they know this is a power swap.

They are scrambling now to cling on to it. The merger that wasn't a merger is a scramble that hasn't gone well.

    Dail being recalled.
Presumably most of the Dail would have known about this dinner well in advance, it being the Oireachtas Golf Society. So this Dail recall is really about the public reaction to the dinner, which has taken everyone by surprise, rather than the dinner itself and the high-profile names that attended. If it was known that the public would react in this way then MM or Leo might have persuaded the golf society to postpone their dinner. Bit if a miscalculation there.

It is now about both, let one run alongside and not be submerged by the other.
