Building of approx 17,000 homes is on pause at the moment.

Maybe I'm wrong but that figure seems widely exaggerated, The housing minister is on record also with some bizzare figure of 700/800 houses not be built during each week of lockdown.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

I think he was called out on the 700/800 figure at the time.

I don't know if the 17k figure is accurate either... all Claire wants to focus on is the black market though... never shall the infallible NPHET "advice" be questioned.

Yes indeed and despite this, he mentioned it again on the week in politics a few days later. Yes and I agree Claire obsessed with black market, especially hair Do's :)

Honestly folks...from reading through some of the recent thread contributions on CB, there comes a time when you should just stop listening to a show/presenter if you think it's so bad...and CB is that bad imo.

    Too good for him.

They got the wrong spokesperson for the auctioneers on here. She's just mumbling random words. I don't think she completed one sentence during the whole interview.

Probably not used to speaking slowly.

We had Covid chat...... then some TV....then back to more Covid!

And she had the cheek to say on the TV slot that people needed a break from all the negative news on Covid.

    RTé is obsessed.

People just need a break from negative news now and again. I just do not listen to much negative news any longer. I actually switch off from watching or listening to hard luck stories.

Current affairs show obsessed with the biggest current affairs story in our generation? It's annoying, but it is the only real story in town for the next few months.

Not good for the government when Alison is turning on them so viciously. They've really lost the room.

So we got a lecture on movies and TV shows to help make us cry.

Complete with a mention of The Notebook

Alison O Connor is a proven strong contributer , she has correctly called out Patrick O Donovan double speak and utter nonsense talk .

Alison summed that up perfectly at thw end 'I want to howl at the moon ! '

But its mostly the same thing over and over, the same old poring over numbers and what Mehaul might or might not have meant in that last statement and when we might be "opening up" everybody talkin but no one says a word strange times indeed.... never mind the professors of the bleedin obvious who have sprouted up all over the place telling us what we already know over and over again... the world is still turning and there are other things happening both worldwide and domestically besides covid, as a matter of fact its a time to be vigilant and not take our eyes off other news lest the powers that be take advantage of that

Agree, its so repetitive at this stage.

A lot of it is just guessing or asking guests to guess.

Too many "when do yo think we'll be able to ....", or "can you see us being able to attend X in July".

So no-one knows, but the questions are asked over and over and over.

Its actually just filler material, most of it.

    That and:
"Wee Seanie Donovan's shop just outside the village would normally be busy at this time of year. But the aisles have been empty for eighteen months due to the impact of the Covid. Seanie, the aisles have been empty for eighteen months during the busiest part of the season and you don't know when you'll be able to open the door again. What has business been like and when do you think you'll be able to reopen?"

"Jaysus, it's bin tirrible. De shop has been closed for a year an' a half an' I don' know when I'll be able to open again. Tirrible, I tells ya!"

[Tune in tomorrow when we'll be in the next village on the list talking to small shopkeeper Wee Hughie. Next week, schools. Then back to priests]

So do you think it shoudn't be covered, or that it should be covered differently, and if so, how?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,601 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Of course Covid should be covered, but maybe a bit less?

I always find RTe are trying to push the negative angle, despite the fact that we are in the vaccine roll-out phase and should be trying to be more positive. There was a social media outlash against the misery porn RTE inflict on the population, and you can see that certain shows and presenters talked about it covertly, but doesn't take them much to get back to the pain and suffering.

Correct N, for me it seems RTE just want to boost their listenership by constantly trying to highlight the ‘bad stuff’ .

Example ... tonight Dara Colleary was interviewed on the failure of a delivery of vaccine needles to a unit in the West, following a Doctors contact with RTE.

Now.... of course.... shouldn’t have happened... no issue there, and the HSE couldnt be contacted.... shouldn’t have happened either.

But..... hundreds of other inoculations were given today.... thousands probably, in sites all over the country...successfully.

    No mention of that.

Basically RTE, the MEDIA , seem to concentrate on ‘attacking’ the Govt and ignoring totally the good work that they are actually doing.

Little bit of balance and positivity would not be a bad idea in my opinion.

Indeed..... and you’ll find they don’t listen to it.

The Sultan of Smug, PBH gave us a PPB for the Shinners at 1830 tonight, for example.

Government don't get praised in story about incompetence in health. Shocking.
Next thing they'll not be praising the church when reporting on Mother and Bay homes. What's the world coming to. :D:D

So basically it was RTES fault for giving Patrick O Donovan a microphone on the Claire Byrne show today.....

Claire gave the floor to O Donovan so if he wanted he could talk about the good work yet it was he who started off with the it's been a bad week for the government.....

    I did not say that.

Former commissioner Pat Leahy seems a little out of touch here. He seems to be suggesting the Gardai just went along to these protests for a little chat.

Yet CB isn't able to ask him the hard questions.

Dislike how she's trying to put words into Michael O'Connell (I think that's his name?) as to what he saw.

Yes agreed, she seemed dissapointed at his responses, not enough juicy bits, the urine in bottles question was just bizzare

Just one side of the story as usual, there were plenty of people who were there protesting peacefully, but that doesn't interest RTE. They just want to paint all the people who were there as thugs, and the Gardaí's behaviour as nothing less than impeccable.

Not looking good for the master of the Coombe, if this is True, it's beyond outrageous. Did I hear correctly children of the Master got vaccinated over essential workers?
