Rain is soaking in here. Usually there is a temporary pool by the gate but not a sign of it. Wild out there so no blackberry picking.

Take care all. We out here are getting off lightly.

    Lashing in Kilkenny. Horrible.

Feels strange to say it (when it was so humid and sticky less than two weeks ago) - but its actually quite cold in Co. Clare this morning.
Have put the heating on for a while which we would almost never do in August.

Very strong W to SW winds blowing outside.
Rain has eased off a bit the last few hours. But it's wet, windy and very miserable out!

Sounds and looks as if it is getting worse here in Limerick City.

The gusts are shaking fences and I can hear stuff blowing about next door.

Chilly here and the damp in the air . About to try to light the fire but cannot remember which wind direction it will not tolerate.

Wind gone around to the west at Shannon airport with a gust of 45 knots at 1030. Pressure rising rapidly

Latest IR satellite with radar overlay shows Francis centred right over midlands now:

Sunny spells in cork city, was up watching the rain at around 1ish and it was very heavy!

Lots of roads in West cork flooded from non river sources just due to very waterlogged roads, bandon and bantry flooded again. West cork has easily seen one of its wettest summers on record at this point.

Gusty this morning now, not "calm' here by any means. Gusting up to about 70-73km/h

The strongest winds have now shifted from the far south to the far north, with Malin head reporting a 52-knot gust at 11 am, mean speed 39 knots. This is at 18 metres above the ground instead of the standard 10 metres everywhere else.

If the centre is currently over the midlands does that mean that big blob of rain to the North will come back down again over parts of the Country like Galway.

Offshore gust of 64 knots at Fastnet earlier

Still calm in Dublin with rain

Got a power outage in the Ballysimon area but it has since been restored. Very windy since from about 9am. But I didn’t think it was stormy enough to blow out the power. Winds was gusting up to gale force but is inclining to ease back a bit.

Winds/gusts picking up around Carlow town. Raining heavily for the last hour.

Yep, it looks that way, latest radar shows the western flank moving south now.

South Dublin, I was out at 7am for an hour and again at 9am for half an hour, just back in again from a short walk.

No rain whatsoever, quite mild too just had a t-shirt on but it is very wet everywhere from what went on overnight.

The photo was Booterstown at 7:30am (screenshotted to make smaller at 10:11am).

Wind direction and pressure show it sat right over the middle of the country.

Don't have my weather station at the moment, but the rain is heavy and sideways, very windy in northern part of Kilkenny.
There will be days in winter that will be much nicer.

    Crazy winds.

Crosswind problems at Cork Airport. A Ryanair flight from Luton circling south of the airport. Another Ryanair flight from Luton was diverted to Shannon. A KLM flight from Amsterdam to Cork has just made landfall over Wexford and is now aiming for Shannon.

Up to 36.8mm since midnight here in the hills west of Ennis.
Just has our strongest gust yet from this system during a little squall - 85kmh

Looks like it’s moving south easterly on the radar.

Alls quiet now here atm, very wild last night around 4am.
Felt windier than Ellen as it was less sheltered last night and even knocked over a few pots.
Only 15mm of rainfall in the gauge, expected a bit more.
Even had a bit of sunshine earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭CirrusBusiness

Strong gusts north of Carlow town now. Cracked a big tree beside the workplace. We weren't expecting gusts as strong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,961 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

Rain is just sitting over Galway. Strange to have wind but the rain band is barely moving

I rather like it. Makes all indoors snug and safe. Fire lit. Wind changed to the north. Straight off the ocean.

Very strong gusty winds in the city.

Power gone south kilkenny. It seems stronger than a yellow wind event. Some strong gusts here.

Very heavy rain now in Laois and wind picking up .. large tree just toppled in neighbouring garden strong gust knocked it . must have been damaged in last weeks storm for it to come down so easy.

Agree. Quite stormy here but dry.

Rain loud against the windows. Wind sounds easing. Gusts rather than one long blast! I think it is starting to pass?

Wild driving rain here the last few mins in D3

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 275 ✭✭sweet_trip

Power cut twice during the night in South Kilkenny. Which is funny because storm Ellen didn't effect our power at all.

Currently in Wexford and quite strong gusts. Feels worse than last night for sure.

Lunch al fresco in Meath before the rain rolls in. Warm and breezy.

Blowing an absolute gale here since early morning. Lots more fairly sizable branches down. No sign of it abating. Ground saturated from additional rsinfall last night. North Cork

Met Eireann forecasting average winds of 50kph for the next 6 to 7 hours for my part of Wicklow. Don't know if all of my trees can withstand the battering they're getting at the moment for that long!

Yeah, seem to be missing out on those bands of rain here. Nothing but spits all day, which sums up this entire summer so far. Summer 2020 shall be known as the 'Summer of spits' by me.
