20 in the 0-14 range means they caught it. There's a lot of private household clusters at the moment, they likely caught it from parents/brothers/sisters.

Maybe they got it from their parents????? The fact kids of that age have it doesn’t alone prove that they are spreading it.

It has to be a worry with schools reopening and high cases in Germany from schools

Germany's school cases are associated with catching it at home, not at school

We haven't even come close to the 200 since that happened, hopefully the drop will continue into this week
Hmm? Since what happened? 200 eight days ago and 190 five days ago?

We haven't crossed the 200 mark. Daily case numbers aren't increasing exponentially.

Even NZ recognised that their policy of zero Covid will still result in outbreaks....which as it expected it did. There is nothing anyone can do to prevent outbreaks. People that think otherwise are so wrong.

It's not really comparable though. They are at 1.5 per 100K of population. Zerocovid is defined at a rate of 1 per 100K. Their outbreak , significant though it was, is literally a blip.

We have 13 times the level of infection.
Spain has 87 times the level of infection.

We are on a different scale.
Spain is on same rate as US.

Hi ACitizenErased. Lately, but overall would also be a bonus to know.

In the last 14 days the counties with top 5 incidence are (in order):
    Kildare
    Offaly
    Carlow
    Tipperary
    Laois

For sure kids are going to bring it to school with them.
Then those initial kids get sick but there is an incubation period so that you could have asymptomatic spread too.
Takes a few weeks for the chains of transmission to become apparent.

It's same with the daily report and the large amount of "undefined" transmission as it's still being investigated.
Bit early to speculate but will be very interested to see.
The societal benefit outweighs the fact that a small minority of kids could get very sick. UK CMO explained it well.

So it didn't spread in the schools, all caught at home?

You said we haven't even come close to 200, which was eight days ago, even though we had 190 a couple of days afterward, and you said 25% isn't so different from 20%, so I'm presumably missing something..

Yep, majority of cases caught it at home. Parent -> Child is different from Child -> Child.

Outliers get ignored. Even when they aren't outliers.

No deaths Jim, how many who caught c19 over the past 6 weeks actually died from it.
Or do we have to wait for two weeks to see no spikes attributed from the protests..

I've no idea what that has to do with the question I asked. I only asked about cases, I never mentioned deaths nor protests.

But don't miss any opportunity to downplay things.

So down again on yesterday’s number but if I remember rightly the acting CMO did say that case numbers would go up and down for a while and that seems to have happened. If it starts to go up and not come back down then we’d be in trouble.
We've seen growing cases since the 80 announced on July 30th and there is no consistent evidence in our numbers yet that growth is slowing down. Past 6 days in a row of the 7 day average cases settling in the 101 to 111 range with one day of large numbers followed by a substantial drop before going back up again.

Day Month Date Cases 7 Day

    ECDC say it is uncommon.

    https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publications-data/children-and-school-settings-covid-19-transmission

Here's a paper on it. From way back in China it is very infrequent.

The cases in Germany have been contracted in the home as opposed to in the schools themselves.

We are actually doing very well.

With mature and decisive decisions we can return to a semblance of normality soon.

Remember what we faced on March 18th.

    Put things into perspective.

Does everyone believe that the only reason so few now are dying when they catch this virus is purely down to the age group now affected most?
    Or is it something else?
    Better treatment?
    Virus mutating?
    Virus becoming less potent?
    What?

Any update yet with the Oxford vaccine? Aren't they meant to be finishing phase 3 trails by end of August? We're almost there.
