I civilly discussed how a post of mine was a joke misread.

This was the reply from an administrator called Mike.

'You were being a dick on multiple occasions. The next occurrence of said behavior and I will ban you from the forum.'

Are mods free to abuse but ordinary posters not? Are they allowed provoke posters so they can ban them? Such language is unseemly and not what you expect of someone who is meant to be in authority and give example.

Nth Clare posted that he felt his doctor got turned on putting on Covid gear. I made a clumsy joke. A protester held a banner at yesterday's anti Covid march in Dublin that lockdown measures aided pedophilia. I made a silly joke that the protestor with the poster must have been north Clare. I didn't intend any insult.

However in trying to explain myself I'm met with Mike's language and bully boy attitude.

The aim of certain mods, not all for example Beasty, Sephiroth Dude etc, but like Mike is to abuse a poster in an attempt to get them to retaliate and ban them.

"being a dick" is not an abusive term on this site. It refers to actions rather than the poster

The phrase was coined some time ago by someone outside of Boards (not a name I can recall), but it became part of the mantra of Boards from the inception of the site

You will find several charters across the site use the term. Indeed the first rule in the Current Affairs forum is
We have one guiding principle: Don't be a dick.

The Coronavirus forum charter is a copy and paste of the Current Affairs one

Hence the term can often be seen across the site, certainly when moderating

In the case you are referring to it's hard to understand how anyone would feel as if it's an invitation to retaliate as it was posted as the thread was being closed and no response was possible. All Mike was saying was you had breached the charter on several occasions, which, looking at your record in the forum, is hard to disagree with

I don't agree Beasty. Mike was very aggressive. He didn't listen to my explanation at all. What record in the thread? I've had a few yellows nothing major.

It was heartening to receive so many messages of support from posters who pointed out that Mike the administrator specialises in 'being a dick'.

I was referring to your record in the Coronavirus forum, which for someone who has been on the site for not much more than 5 weeks, is very poor. Indeed if you pick up as many sanctions in the forum over the next 5 weeks I would expect you to be serving a long if not permanent forum ban

I just, unfairly, received my first ban in that forum. I think it's fair to say I'm a man who's in control of my emotions. So after receiving my first temporary ban, unfairly, I can adjust my behaviour to suit the whims of some mods.

It's a bit like receiving your first speeding penalty points, you pay the fine get 3 points on your licence, but you're a long way off 12 and a ban. A measured man like myself can slow down so to speak, and adapt to the situation.

It's nice to be able to chat to a civilised moderator.

I just, unfairly, received my first ban in that forum.

As I highlighted in your previous thread on the matter, this isn't a case of a singular misunderstood post, and you are misrepresenting the situation by saying otherwise.

You have been needlessly antagonistic towards other posters - the expressions ""playing the martyr", "you're full of it", "have some humble pie" have all been approaches you have taken. Not too much later you associated another poster with a paedophile at a protest, which understandably drew their ire, and earned them an infraction too. Rather than apologise to the poster for said 'misunderstanding', you later stated that they "need help" and provided a link to the Samaritans website. And these are just the bulletpoints.

At best, you are categorically (and as explained by Beasty) 'being a dick' in how you post. At worst, you're trolling, and for now I choose to believe it's the former and not the latter.

I think it's fair to say I'm a man who's in control of my emotions. So after receiving my first temporary ban, unfairly, I can adjust my behaviour to suit the whims of some mods.

I'd more equate it to tearing through a few different speed limits, and getting caught pulling doughnuts at the end. You have been given multiple chances, especially considering your one month presence on the site.
A measured man like myself can slow down so to speak, and adapt to the situation.

I hope so. Time will tell.

Closing this thread as on closer inspection, poster is a rereg who has had multiple accounts banned in the past for similar behavior.
