An eagle apiece and no bogies.

    Good going.

Would a win get Harrington into the USPGA next week? Think all his exemptions are over apart from the Open?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,014 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

He already has an exemption as a former winner

Wasn't sure how long the USPGA one lasts for?

Thanks, just looked it up and the likes of Micheel and Beem are teeing it up so Paddy will have a good few goes of it yet! :D

And he'll be teeing it up on the Champions Tour from September.

Crikey, didn't realise he was 50 so soon! He could really clean up on that if he commits to it after the Ryder Cup.

Could see him as a Langer 2.0 out grinding on the range every night. We could be up late watching some senior majors in the years to come! :D

    It's a lifetime exemption.

Don't think it's lifetime, don't think they do them anymore for obvious reasons.

Not sure if it's 60 like the open or 65 like the Masters though?

Edit: think it might be 55 even as neither Davis Love nor John Daly are playing.

The PGA website doesn't mention any age limit. The following qualification criteria are listed:

List of qualification criteria as of 2010:

    All former PGA Champions.

Winners of the last five U.S. Opens.

Winners of the last five Masters.

Winners of the last five Open Championships.

    The last Senior PGA Champion.

The low 15 scorers and ties in the previous PGA Championship.

The 20 low scorers in the last PGA Professional National Championship.

The 70 leaders in official money standings on the PGA Tour (starting one week prior to the previous year's PGA Championship and ending two weeks prior to the current year's PGA Championship).

Members of the most recent United States and European Ryder Cup Teams, provided they are in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of one week before the start of the tournament.

Winners of tournaments co-sponsored or approved by the PGA Tour since the previous PGA Championship (does not include pro-am and team competitions, but does include alternate events).

The PGA of America reserves the right to invite additional players not included in the categories listed above.

The total field is a maximum of 156 players. Vacancies are filled by the first available player from the list of alternates (those below 70th place in official money standings).

Interestingly, it specifies winners of the last 5 Open Championships, rather than a 5 year exemption. This means that Shane Lowry is guaranteed exemption until 2025 no matter what happens.

I think JD would play if he could though?

There was something about the buggy at the open though it maybe it was last year's PGA, be cool to see him buzzing around in the buggy, smoking a cigar :D

He has a bit of form at the moment too!

9 under 63 for Spieth in round 1. Could've been lower too. Great stuff.

The list on this page shows Daly as qualified for both the PGA and the Open and Davis Love as qualified for the PGA, but says will not compete in brackets.

Nice 66 for ole Paddy, good for T-19, he called a shootout in his preview and he looks spot on!

Think 4 66s would probably get the job done though :D

Don't actually think it would be enough, winning score last two times was 261 - they have changed the course a little and changed par to 72 but this year is a stronger field.

They're playing at a course that they have not used before TPC Craig Ranch.

Sam burns - 17 after 2 rounds is ridiculous.

He completely looked the real deal two weeks ago and looks good to follow up here.

Still a big jump from the run of the mill birdie-fest PGA Tour events to the next level. Be interesting to see how he gets on next week.

Cheers, didnt realise it was a completlely new course, thought they had just made some changes to the old one.

Three Irish players in the featured groups on day 1

I think this is definitely the most excited I have been about the uspga. Maybe it's the new spot in the calendar rather than being the last of the 4 but really looking forward to this week

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,767 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Apparently the pin positions for tomorrow are fairly tough

    15mph winds

    No rain in the forecast

    Bring on the carnage

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,568 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

Yeah watched some of the on course stuff yesterday and the wind looked pretty nasty. The 17th is a 230 yard Par 3 over water with no bailout zone that plays straight into the wind. I would just watch that all day if I could, Poulter was hitting driver into it yesterday.

Conditions and course look very much suited to the European players and those with form on Links golf courses.

A large portion of the top 10 in 2012 were from Europe too so it's definitely suited to them by the looks of things.
