Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is this a permanent feature of the UEFA calender now?

Looking at Scotland's team for tonight vs Israel and they look like they have very nice midfield options: McTominay, McGregor, McGinn starting, while Fleck and Armstrong are on the bench. CB options not great though, and talk of Tierney playing there this evening. They're also giving a debut to Australian-born Lyndon Dykes up top.

Ian Baraclough has a tricky first game for NI away to Romania. I do like their wing-back options in Lewis and Dallas.

Going to watch the post-Koeman Netherlands take on Poland. Ake and Van Dijk start and Depay is up top. Van de Beek on the bench. Lewandowski missing for the Poles as he's given a rest, so Piatek starts. Keen to see how Leeds' Klich gets on in midfield up against Wijnaldum.

Half-time: The Dutch unlucky not to be ahead. De Jong hitting the post after a nice assist from Depay. The finishing has let them down. NI look in some trouble: a goal down and a man down after Magennis got a second yellow. Scotland leading due to a Christie penalty.

1-0 via a Bergwijn tap-in on the hour mark. It was coming.

Full-time and the Netherlands win 1-0. Deserved victory for the Dutch who played some nice football. Depay was lively and De Jong was pulling the strings. Van Dijk my MOTM. He was excellent and looks ready to have another strong season.

Ten-man NI got a draw through Gavin Whyte. That's a great result in the circumstances. Scotland held to a draw at home by Israel is disappointing.

Our play-off opponents Slovakia were well beaten 3-1 at home by the Czech Republic. That's encouraging.

Yep, but the Czechs are always a handy side.

Failing to score (and create) against Bulgaria for 90 minutes is probably worse.

Czech FA have stated they won’t be playing against Scotland on Monday.

Presumably the Scots will be handed three points? Interesting scenario for UEFA to deal with and one they hoped wouldn’t come up. Scotland involved in playoffs next month so would be difficult to rearrange.

Was probably inevitable at some stage unfortunately.

Czech Republic vs Scotland will go ahead as planned on Monday. The Czech's will be bringing in new players and staff to fulfill the fixture.

What would Ireland’s COVID team be like..

Just hypothetically if we were in the same situation as Czechia and had to come up with a team comprised entirely of players who didn’t make the squad against Bulgaria.

    Maybe something like

    C.Kellher
    L. O’Connor
    C.Clark
    K.Long
    R.Manning
    J.Cullen
    J.Byrne
    J.Knight
    M.obafemi
    D.McGoldrick
    A.Judge

Kyle Walker given a second yellow. Poor challenge.

    England are terrible

Kane , Sterling and in fairness Greenwood looks brilliant

    After that they are shocking

Southgate out. Soooo slow in possession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Surprised he didn't start TAA. Just for the set piece threat alone you'd think that would be useful against stubborn opponents like this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Pen to England for handball and Iceland down to ten too.

    Sterling scores for 1-0.

    Iceland given a pen now!

Is Boards is playing up again?

    Shocking peno!!!!!

    Awful pen from Iceland!

Southgate is so jammy to get away with this.

England rubbish. Too slow in midfield.

I thought that was a very harsh pen on Iceland and an awful decision by the reg to award it and book the player.

Yep, but looked like they got away with that Kane goal that was disallowed early on.

Kovacic is Croatian? Every day's a school day in the Nation's League!

    Thought he was Serbian.

Don't think it's possible at some grounds like Gibraltar so therefore it's not used at all.

Mbappe gives France the lead via a tight angle from a move he started himself. Lloris earlier made a good stop to prevent the Swedes going ahead.

    ****e keeper! :P

Martial has won a pen for France, fouled by club teammate Lindelof.

And it's a dreadful pen from Griezmann! Even worse than the Icelandic one earlier. Not been his night tonight.

That was the last kick of the game too.

Don't know who the co-commentator is for Wales vs Bulgaria on Sky but thought this was priceless when a Bulgarian player got tackled: "You have to be careful making challenges against these European players because they will go to ground. And these European refs will tend to give a free."

We're all European, mate. It's the Nations League. Literally a UEFA European tournament.

What is the story with this competition?

Is it replacing what was known as European Championships or is it more of an organised way of playing friendlies?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,068 ✭✭✭DenMan

Wales 0 Bulgaria 0 in the final stages now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,793 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Wales drawing with Bulgaria. They were the better team, but failed to create much. Bale looked especially rusty.

Neco Williams looks to have won it for Wales with a header.

And that was the last action of the game. Wales probably deserved it. Poor game overall.

Wales at the death! 1-0 W must beat Finland now.

European Championships and World Cup will still go ahead in their usual two-year cycle, with the normal qualification groups.

This Nations League largely replaces friendlies, but the games are more important as the playoffs (for the WC or Euros), which is our traditional route, are influenced by this competition.
e.g., our poor performance in the first Nations League is why our Euro20202021 playoff tie against Slovakia next month is away, not at home.

1-1 between Switzerland and Germany. Impressed by the Swiss and think they deserved to win. Germany were hanging on near the end as Xhaka bossed it in midfield. Fantastic pass at one point:

James Ward Prowse digging up the penalty spot before the Icelandic peno. Ian Wright thinks it's fine, Keane calls the player a cheat.
    Two extremes

Where was this Croatia the other night? Have been all over France since kick-off and one-nil up with a stunner after 16 minutes.

Denmark v England is about league 1 level so far. Hardly any incisive possession by either side.

It's just a series of a few passes then a long diagonal ball to nobody/opposition, dreadful stuff

France Croatia is quite a game. France equalised with a cracking team goal and have just taken the lead before half-time with another well-worked goal.

I know international football is tough to judge players off but last two games Sancho looks no where even near a 100 million plus player,
