Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sorry to quote myself, but I tuned into RTE today as the lottery numbers were being pulled. Guess what, a Johnny Foreigner presenting the show. Just like I said, the diversity Nazi's want it seen everywhere, like I said even in trivial areas such as weather forecasting, etc.

Imagine you went to Pakistan and an Irishman was pulling the numbers for their version of the lotto. Or you went to China and a Spaniard was pulling the numbers.

Any problem in itself? No. But the efforts RTE go to to pander to this diversity nonsense is unreal. The whole point is they went to the effort rather than it was ever a naturally occurring thing in the first place. No way did it come about naturally. No way.

I am not sure why the term nazi can be bandied about liberally without it relating to the very ideology it was originally about.

I can understand irritation and annoyance at some of the things described in the thread but this pearl clutching cause you see a foreign person on TV seems excessive and almost hysterical.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Could it have been Kamal Ibrahim, aka "Lotto Hotto"?
Born in Limerick, Ireland to a Nigerian father and an Irish-Italian mother.

I think Nazi can be both a noun, verb and an adjective in the 3rd millenium?

Like the noun being the definition of a physical person acting or dressing or being a Nazi - kind of self explanatory.

An adjective - when I am trying to lose weight for an upcoming role I tend to adopt an extreme diet, I end up eating like a Nazi.

a verb - " If those kids don't clean their bedroom by tonight I am going to Nazi the phuck out of them until they do!!! "

Interestingly in Germany you need to be very careful when using it in casual terminology - it is still illegal to be a Nazi in Germany, you can be sent to prison for acting like one. This may raise a few eyebrows in Western Europe, but I can remember attending a rave in East Berlin in the mid 90's and the place was full of white skinheads, littered with tatts, off their barneys and literally dressed like soccer hooligans - they exist, particularly in the former East Germany. The German Democratic Republic formed in 1949 never disincentivised its' citizens from forming political socialist communes - this was in essence tolerating the continuation of both far right and far left forms of communism in East Germany - the lines literally become blurred. But there is still many Nazi's in cities like Magdeburg, Dresden and obviously Berlin.

RTE is being prepped for sale to some international media company. I'd bet money on it.

The first sign of this is staff trying to out-woke rach other, in a desperate bid to save their jobs when the new overlords arrive. Extra points if you manage to throw a ' racist ' colleague under the bus.

Executives trying to outdo each other with their right-on nonsense trickles down to manifest itself in peculiar ways, such as that utterly cringe-worthy scene in Fair City about the proles spitting on foreigners.

On top of the extremely tedious compassion-p**n from the likes of Turgidy and Talk to Joe, RTE is fast becoming a farce.

But as the saying goes....go woke, go broke.

They're state funded. RTE won't go broke, regardless of how woke they become.. and it's highly unlikely that they'd be sold off.. at least not unless we enter a particularly nasty recession, with the govt in desperate need of funds.

It's a failing entity propped up by the government.

Selling off the high-value D4 land for redevelopment leaving a smaller, leaner organisation that would ultimately broadcast solely on Youtube, would make a lot of business sense.

And it could position Ireland as a forward-thinking hub, in term of 21st-century communications/ entertainment.

That's nice, but it's not what you originally stated. There's a big difference between becoming a leaner organisation...... and being sold-off, or end due to "go woke, go broke"

All media firms become leaner over time due to advances in technology, and the ability to outsource unnecessary services. RTE will be no different. I don't see RTE disappearing any time soon..

Sorry, Q, I was putting “forward” the example of the woke leftie liberal calling for an end to the violence by the Trumpist insurgents.

Was there anything more “woke” in there? I hadn’t seen anything about the Movement at the time.

Sold off because other companies will be in a better position to repurpose RTE into something new. Those companies are in a better position than the state.

They won't disappear nor should they. They should be overhauled and if the state is willing to outsource the provision of housing and Telecomms to outside entities, they can do the same with RTE, with an equally positive outcome. (IMHO)

Some obscure nothing from 2 years ago, that nobody remembers or read in the first place searched out so someone can be outraged by it and, without a hint of irony or self awareness, try to claim the moral high ground against the "permanently outraged" woke crowd.

    Was it an ageist thing???

I think it’s because referring to Australia as a young country ignores all the people who lived there long before it was colonised. I can see the logic. And the new lyrics fit just as well, to be honest. This is a country which has pretty recent scars on this topic so I think this is a good move.

Just as well a Cliff Richard song isn’t the Australian anthem!

Surprised you don’t know this one, R.

    From UrbanDictionary:

A commonly seen stereotype of the quintessentially conservative, heterosexual, white male, who despite all his privileges and advantages in life, is easily sensitive to any criticism or mockery.
Unable to see outside of his own perspective, and takes everything personally, even when it's not about him specifically. Fragile like a snowflake, but with the mentality of a "bro."
Usually denies or ignores reality and the very real struggles of other genders, races, sexual identities, etc.
Represents those afflicted with the "fragile male ego" and is the opposite of "woke."

Just been catching up on the thread. The style that ''definition'' is written in reminds me of someone. I can't, ''for the life of me,'' remember who it is though...

    "Needs" "more" "inverted" "commas"

Needs more faux-chumminess by using an "initial" when addressing a "poster".

Yep. I hear you 'B', hell everyone hears you.
The Carthaginians unloaded their wares and arranged them on the beach; then they'd get back on their boats after lighting some fires close to the water's edge. When the native inhabitants saw the smoke, they would come to the shore and, after setting out gold in exchange for the goods, withdraw.
So in a way 'B', things haven't changed that much since the 5th century, nor should they.

Not sure how this is racist. Maybe a little bit sexist, with the weight thing but its an 81 year old man giving his opinion on Romanian TV.
Fear not, the woke armies have arisen to decry him regardless.
