Showers beginning to ease off here in Castlebar with more in the way of sunny spells. Cold clear night on the way

Dublin airport had more sunshine hours in October than it did in month of July or August.

Reminds you how crap summer 2020 was in Dublin.

A lovely moonlit night in Mayo. The twins of Gemini rising in the northeastern sky and Orion hauling himself up in the east as he continues his endless pursuit of the Pleiades across the night sky. A sure signpost that winter is on it's way.
Glad to see the forecast for some high pressure knocking around for a few days this week and hopefully some settled conditions. This will be in stark contrast to yesterday which was a truly miserable November day when it was cold, grey and wet. Some nice blue skies about earlier today with a good smattering of showers but some of the shower clouds were nicely illuminated by the lowering November sun.

Wow just had to scrape a thick layer of ice of the car, first time in a long time. Car reading 0.2c

Cold night in Cork City, thick enough frost on the cars last night and still there at half 9 this morning!

Average temp for November is around 10º max and 4º min. So I wouldn't really call this a cold snap - it's relatively normal for late autumn/early winter. Temps at night might drop at bit - mainly due to high pressure and therefore lack of cloud cover to keep in any heat.

A beautiful afternoon here in Castlebar. Nice color on the leaves. Grand for a walk later.

Cool bright start this morning after getting down to 2.7C with lovely blue skies. Clouded over from late morning. Cool day with very little movement in the temperature not moving far from 10.2C.

Yesterday was a taste of winter here in Kerry with countless heavy quick moving showers with hail in most of them. Great to have a few settled days ahead.

Good opportunity to calibrate Barometers over the coming days

Good to see the ECMWF charts added to the Met Eireann site.

A dry cold night in Claremorris even though my thermometer is saying 9degrees it feels like a chilly 5 or 6 degrees . Today was cloudy with a nice array of colourful leaves on the ground making it giving that Autumn feel .
    Picturesque spring to mind
Or a picture on your november month calender for 2021 .

A grey day alright in this part of the west but at least it was settled and dry. Looking at the satellite imagery earlier this afternoon, it seemed nice and clear for a good bit of the south.
There was a lovely narrow strip of orange sky way out west this evening around sunset. I am sure that it must have been very picturesque for those out near the coast.
We got a brief but lovely show of evening light ourselves in this part of Mayo yesterday once the sun slipped down behind Croagh Patrick way off in the distance. A pleasant November memory.

Beautiful day out there today totally calm with beautiful sunshine.

Unfortunately dark by time I'm home from work but at least got out for 20 minutes on lunch break.

Not sure if this is the right thread but...

Does anyone know how Met Eireann can be so far wrong with these rainfall maps?

I recorded 180mm of rain in October in Roscommon - yet this published map from ME suggests we got approx 75mm.

How is there such a huge discrepancy?!

Surely there are better methods to generate these maps than interpolation between recording stations which can be over 100km apart?

Those maps are from a much denser network of stations than the standard synoptic stations. There are over 500 of these stations.

Dull here today. I heard it will become milder, anymore info? I would much prefer cold, clear sunny days.

Nice here in Castlebar this morning. Very dull murky conditions further south. Light drizzle at Cork Airport with low cloud at 100feet and 300feet

Milder = rain Cold = dry ...You can rarely have both of what you want mild and sunny...Its just how our weather works

Seems to be a lot of Saharan dust and dirt passing over Ireland this afternoon and early night, according to
    SKIRON Dust Forecast
Check out the dust load, dust deposition and aerosol optical depth maps.
Perhaps cars will have dirty windscreens tomorrow morning.

Well either some data other than that from the 500 rainfall stations records were used - or they've got some major bug in the system.
To be wrong by a factor of 2.5 times the rainfall is pretty hefty!

Those maps are consistently off for here as well, and often by a considerable degree.
