Nah more dialogue heavy (which is a good thing because the dialogue is nearly always great), Tarantino films really aren't all that violent, esp by today's standards.
Yeah but there's no realism to the violence. It's like its just there for the sake of it. Those Kill Bill films are the greatest load of ****e I've ever seen.

Yes but art is unreal at the best of times, it's escapism.

I always found the blood splattering in kill bill very much immersed in the tone and theme of the movie. It is a revenge saga, citing eye for eye, tooth for tooth etc. A lot of the blood gushing from severed limbs appears almost like a nod to adult manga cartoons, certainly more adult Japanese animation. I would certainly have the Saga somewhere at the top of my fav Tarantino movies, not the very top but certainly better than others. All subjective of course, but I never object to sitting down and watching Kill Bill again, if only to drooooool over Uma Thurman.

I thought Kill Bill vol 1 was a masterpiece, id rate the 1 v 70 people fight at the end the best martial arts fight sequence ive ever seen, the soundtrack for it was perfect. The fight in the house mid way though the film is the way all film fight scenes should be. Uma Thurman was magnificent.

Almost anything with Christian Bale in it. He's at his best playing characters devoid of emotion, which says it all really!

I think if you've seen a movie within 5 five years of it's release, and you enjoyed it, you'll "probably" always like it or at least the memory of watching it first time around .......... movies viewed for the first time now, such as classics like Scarface or The Godfather, probably won't fair so well by today's standards for some people.
That's what seems to be happening on this thread .......

Having said that, I thought ALL of the Harry Potter and Star Wars movies were/are utter ****e!

My favourite Sunday afternoon movie is Empire of the Sun. Check it out sometime, highly recommended.

    Of course it is.

I don't think Grease was acknowledging that teenagers in general can grossly inappropriate in what they say and do. I think you are given the film far too much credit. It very much reflects the sexual mores and attitudes of when it was made, (late 70s) and this is reflected in the plot and the lyrics. I saw the film about 10 years after it came out (in was deemed too young by my mum to be taken to the cinema to see it and was devastated because everyone I know had seen it) . I was so looking forward to it but was so disappointed and disturbed by it.

Kill Bill I & II should have been just one movie.... cut out some of the bolloxology (especially present in part I)....and you would have had a decent, if longish movie.

Overall, Tarrantino movies are decent.... But the hype now surrounding his releases ...means everything is invariably a let down.

Eg. Once Upon a time in Hollywood.

The gay porno version "Fill Bill" was far better.

I preferred " Drill Gill " myself. Vol II had some cracking 3ways and roasting. end.

    'The Phantom Menace'. Star Wars.

The Phantom Menace is certainly not considered "great" by many people, it was widely panned by fans and critics. Think a lot of the examples thrown out are the same. Freddy Got Fingered and Adam Sandler comedies might have their fans but they're not well regarded films in the bigger scheme of things.

It's a toss up between Jaws and Forrest Gump for me, I'll let the first mention of these in the thread break the tie

(back in a minute to report on which one it is)

And it's a thrilling post 109- post 150 win for Forrest Gump -- he went out in a hurricane on a shrimp boat and triumphed over the man eating shark.

Glad it wasn't just me then (I didn't trawl the rest of the thread to see how many more dislikes they got).

I mean, let's face it, Jaws is two hours of a fish that eats people. Would you want to watch a movie about people eating fish?

And Forrest Gump? It's Tom Hanks, everybody knows it's Tom Hanks, he can call his millionaire friends and get out of anything.

Must admit, I haven't seen 99% of the other movies mentioned so perhaps they are exponentially worse. Ryan's Daughter, if I'm allowed to even mention that here, was a bit much also, awkward when it's a first date movie too, you don't realize that there's a five minute lovemaking scene with nothing but trees moving about.

That was the problem with Jaws too, was on a date, during the movie, the love interest figured out that no ordinary man could save her from being eaten by a giant shark. Not a good thing.

Both great films in my world

Great films in my world are Amadeus and Chariots of Fire. I didn't find them mentioned in the first ten pages but sure somebody must dislike them intensely somewhere. I did see mention of 2001: A Space Oddity (as some call it), certainly an acquired taste, but I acquired it, have to wonder, if you didn't see it on release in 1968 (yikes) but only long after the fact, would it be a game changer? I mean, half of what's in 2001 appeared very futuristic to us as young adults in the 1960s, post about 1995 I suppose it would look a bit faded and goofy. So that context is significant.

However, what was a really bad movie was Mars Attacks. I would not have gone to see that but in a brief earlier stint as a community assistant, I was asked to accompany a Forrest Gump type individual to watch it. Unfortunately it scared the bejeesus out of that guy, but was so lame that I had to keep laughing into my program.

I assume you mean a person with a disability?

Yeah, I didn't want to sound like a social worker in After Hours, people get nervous and disconnect. ;)

We had to leave at the intermission as I could see this fella was reacting badly, so maybe someone can enlighten me, did we win? Or did Mars win and thus I can now understand what has happened on this planet since 1997.

Or worse, a meteorological social worker, that would just cause a catastrophic crash of boards servers, could be fun though

Have you seen Mad Max or Mad Max 2 ?

    763283_1440x990.jpg
Grant Page drives a car through a caravan in Mad Max, 1979. NFSA title: 763283

Took me and the missus months to put that thing back together.

Thought of another really bad movie, Deliverance. Epic fail.

IF YOU WERE REALLY WANTING A MOVIE ABOUT

ANNOYING ROBOTS, LIFE FORMS THAT PROBABLY

    WOULDN'T BE ENTRUSTED WITH MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND NERDS WHO WITHOUT ANY

    FORMAL TRAINING REPEL PROFESSIONAL MILITARY

    FORCES UNDER OBVIOUSLY NAZI DIRECTION

AND ALSO IF YOU WANT TO GAIN WISDOM FROM

SOME GUY WHO LIVES UNDER A GIANT TOADSTOOL

IN A SOAKING WET FOREST WITH NO ELECTRICITY

AND LOOKS LIKE THE PRODUCT OF SEVEN

    GENERATIONS OF COUSIN SEX THEN

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU

I cannot be arsed with anything star wars at all.

Maybe if I seen it as a kid it would be different. The indifference shown here sums it up

Forrest Gump is overrated. Another one with a bad message actually. It's got a rocking soundtrack though so for that alone it's worth watching.

Mentioning "Jaws" and "overrated" in the same sentence though is just plain wrong.
