21 cases in ICU, we only have 250ish beds with 150ish needed for other issues. We have around 80 free beds. a lockdown takes two weeks to kick in, we will only have 60 free beds if we start a lockdown today, otherwise it takes two weeks for the cases to double and then two weeks for the lockdowns to kick in.

All it takes is one nursing home to get infected and we're at capacity.

Have they done anything since March to increase ICU capacity? Seems very low.

    It's not difficult to understand.

    :D

July, 95% of businesses opened = single digits covid cases.

September, schools re open, = 450 daily cases.

Shure, lets close them restaurants and museums the covid hotspots!!! :pac:

When shall we clap for HSE?

NPHET tried a flex move on the government by leaking it to RTE and just before the 9pm news. These guys are driving far too much outside of their lane. They are treasonous.

Treasonous is a bit strong I think but someone needs to tell them what they are. An advisory body to the government. No less and no more.

To the NPHET can do no wrong faction. You seriously think its a good idea to hand the keys to the country to the very senior health admins that have our health system in the state it's in? You think they are actually likely to make the right calls?

Yes. Blamed public and continue to do so, consistently.

That's an emergency alright, for sure.
I've elderly friends and vulnerable friends who have underlying problems and they've their hospital bags packed just in case.
Very sad but that the way it's going.

The Executive Health Service seems far from executive.

When I hear the words Health Service Executive I have an image of a professional top class business run like well oiled machine.

It's actually the opposite the cogs are worn out, lack of regular maintenance and from where I'm sitting it's not the cogs fault.... Who's fault I don't know... If we did it would be rectified.

There are 170 patients in ICU currently, 21 of them covid, with 250 beds. With covid doubling every two weeks at level 3, or every 3 days at level 2, we are only weeks away from going over capacity.

Increased the bed count by 17, increased max surge capacity to 350 but that would require closing other services.

We are having difficulty with space and staff. We have a policy of 1 nurse 24/7 per ICU bed, so 4 nurses, and a few doctors per group of 4-8 beds. Almost all capable doctors in the country are employed. And then we need physical space to contain infectious patients.

Hopefully thats not true, Sweden substantially increased the number of ICU facilities, I would have hoped NPHET were as strong advicing Government to increase ICU capacity, that actually would definitly help as we face into this winter.

I'm utterly disgusted with how the government have handled this since June.
We flattened the curve to buy time, to give the HSE a chance to build up the hospitals, we are now in a worse position that before March. We don't have anyway near enough ICU beds or Covid beds my sister in law works in Tallaght Hospital, for f1ck sake covid cases are coming in through A&E, there should be a sperate way of admitting them.

Young people a being scapegoated for mixing yet the lads could play golf in Clifden. I'm in my 40's with young kids I'm to busy to socialise but think of this years leaving cert class, it was a train crash, college is going to be sh1t this year. We are social being we all need a social outlet, the late teens early 20's are the best years of our lives for being social, being kept at home since March isn't possible its wrong. They need to find a better way to help young people get out about in a safe way, yet what covid safe events have been organised by councils or any government body zero.

Just 17? That can't be right surely? I did imagine they'd be multiplying capacity not slightly increasing, ridiculous.

Under 7 I believe. We were down to 4 (possibly even 3 for a day or two) at the start of September.

I agree but also if we want 100 more beds where do we find 400 nurses and 50 doctors that specialise in infectious deseases at short notice?

Why do these experts ask the vulnerable , over 70's to behave the same as the rest of the population during this level 5 lockdown ? - surely we should be protecting the vulnerable as much as possible . and I am not young, but really fear for my childrens generation, ther is a sizeable proportion of the population , maybe 40% who are unaffected by lockdown , in secure jobs , like the Doctors and health service execitives themselves who are making these descisions.

They do not ask the over 70s to behave the same. They have said over and over that vulnerable people should continue to restrict movements even during easing.

You are just straight lying there

I suppose if people choose not to pay attention to the Government (not NPHET, who only make recommendations) then they will only have themselves to blame when the Government have to take steps to get their attention.

I'm sure those people will apportion at least some of the responsibility for this to themselves when it happens, right?

On a separate note - level 3 Dublin - did sweet fck all? What a surprise, But i thought lockdowns work??
    :

A lockdown worked for Kildare and Offaly. So maybe it’s just the Dubs who don’t give a sh1t about anyone but themselves.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

    What do you mean worked?

Last time I checked Kildare had 44 new cases alone on Sat... is that "success"?

If they went through the government first you and all your conspiracy friends would be crying about a government cover up and not getting the facts.
Last night you got the facts and still you cry.
Truth is nothing that anyone does will please you and this is about being against everything

In Kildare it was restricted to 3 companies pretty much, easy to Isolate.

It is spread randomly all over Dublin, with concentrations in the areas with the highest density and lowest education.

It's come back with a vengence in Celbridge too.

I'd trust the HSE over breaking news tbh. Ireland's COVID19 Data Hub

And your atricle agrees with what I said, only 4 in hospital on the 26th of August.

And according to your atricle we have gone from 255 to 278 beds, an increase of 23, so 17 is close but they have obviously added 6 more in the last 3 weeks. and 19 of those beds are non-operational due to staffing.

Couldn't they have widened the brief a little, eg 1 nurse to 2 beds etc, exceptional times and all that they're telling us? From the looks of it they've pretty much done nothing to deal with the outbreak bar putting it on the general public to follow guidelines.

NEPHET Thursday 1st October: "The current epidemiological data does not strongly support a move to Level 3 nationally at this time."

What has changed in 4 days?

It didn't work for Kildare & Offaly, they had a specific outbreak connected to a meat factory & housing facility. They eventually controlled that but the community spread in Kildare has increased if anything

They also advice everyone to restrict movement and behviour, they should be protecting the at risk much more IMO, it certainly came across that in level 5 that the over 70's wont be as restricted as much as before .
