Hard not to have, given the doom-mongers have been bleating on about for months.

Here we are 7 months later with a tiny handful of deaths, the median age of whom have been way over the average life-expectancy.

This isn't the deadly virus your facebook feed wants it to be.

It's a first-world, mostly harmless disease for the snowflake generation.
Facebook virus. prefer to get my information peer reviewed, not from youtube videos where I can get radicalised by an algorithm. I have seen more patients than I care to admit die from this. Some were elderly and on their last legs. Others were not. You to make light of their deaths really shows the callousness of the relaxation brigade. These people left behind grieving sons/father's/mothers/daughters. The disease still has a far higher fatality rate than the seasonal flu.

You don't need to use FB or YT to get the figures, they're reported direct from the HSE each day.

Of course it does, the way they're being counted, if someone in their 80s near the end of their life with terminal stage four cancer gets covid and dies its counted as a Covid death.

If we used that same methodology for previous years with cold/flu in place of covid we we would have potentially 10,000+ cold and flu deaths every year.

The fact that you are interchanging cold and flu means you don't really know what you are talking about. Cold is annoyance. Flu can be deadly (albeit not as deadly as covid).

You win the 'internet-emote' competition - well done, I guess you just care more than everyone else..

Personally I'm far more concerned at the excess deaths this country will experience in the coming years due to the hysterical over-reaction to a disease that's harmless to the vast, vast majority - but then again, not viewing the world through a Covid-funnel gives me a more holistic view of the complete shambles we've made of this.

We're hemorrhaging money at the moment and there will be swinging cuts to services in the coming years. Life-expectancy directly correlates to our ability to fund health services.

Still, don't go thinking too hard about these things - only Covid-deaths count.

Its pretty horrifying to think that yesterday 70-80 people died in Ireland, none from covid or with covid.

Thats more people than all the deaths with covid since June........ mad

I get that there may be different opinions on how best to proceed in this situation. How to get the correct balance between public health, economy, education, and a range of other things.

But it is quite frankly idiotic to suggest that this is "harmless disease for the snowflake generation"
Are you seriously suggesting that the WHO, European health authorities, American heath authorities, virtually every government in the world have got this so badly wrong, making a big fuss over nothing..

Literally world wide disruption for a "harmless disease for the snowflake generation".

It'd be horrifying if the media covered it, but covid sells.

Not to someone already near death.

You could pick any stats really and just keep the ones that you need to support your position, while throwing away the rest. Means nothing really.

Lockdown probably reduced road deaths and workplace deaths too.

Total fence sitting from Sinn Fein last night. Wouldn't say if he wanted level 3 or 5, didn't have all the data. Kept going on about a plan. At least Boyd Barrett and Jim O Callaghan expressed an opinion.
That Boyd Barrett is the greatest charlatan who has ever lived.
PBP are backing NPHET and calling for level 5 but in six mouths time when people are on the breadline, out of work with the economy ruined you can be certain they'll be mouthing on about 'the people'.

Not to someone already near death.

All I can think that it leads to is acute ottus media, exacerbation of asthma, lower respiratory tract disease (,,ie related RSV, need supplemental oxygen, and acute rhino sinusitis.

None of which I would say is life threatening.

Any evidence about the common cold causing mortality?

He's a charlatan based on something that hasn't happened?

    Fascinating.

Do any stats exist for how many die in Ireland each year with the flu?

Come on! Even my dog knows the implications that a level 5 would have on the economy.
I'm finding it difficult to get my head around the fact that PBP wants even more unemployment and the economy flushed even further down the toilet!

No, it's about you claiming to know his reaction to something that hasn't happened.

I think its obvious what damage level 5 restrictions would have on the country, it isn't a question of predicting the future.
I'm genuinely shocked that PBP would want to drive the final nail into the coffin of the economy.

I think facehugger might be alluding that PBP would somehow benefit from more unemployment but I'm not sure?

Socialists love free money, RBB is the spokesperson for them.

You never see advisors in finance for example leaking what advice they gave to minister before budget. So clearly some parts of public service manage it and I really don't know why Nphet should be different.

Well thanks for responding but it’s got nothing to do with the point I made, which was about decision making.

    So what’s your point?

Of course they want to drive the economy into the ground. Chaos creates opportunity.

It's a real insight into the minds of the likes of RBB and the vintictiveness of them. They want oblivion to prosper out of.

NPHET got the attention of the people late on Sunday. The wrong kind of attention. They still haven't apologised to the people for causing such trauma and attempting to blackmail and compromise the lawfully elected Govt.

Unexpected as it was, it did my heart good to watch Leo Varadkar call out Holohan last night. Bullies need to be taught a lesson.

Nope, apparently it makes more sense that the government leaked the letter in an attempt to somehow makes themselves look good while causing a shítstorm that they themselves have to deal with.

covid is a wet dream to RBB and his ilk leo for all his fault called it right
NPHET and a muppet last night ranting on about circling gatwick are part of a failed health service

Your hate comes across. Or if hate isn't the right word, jealousy, bitterness, resentment. Take your pick.

Job security? 350 a week cash in hand and an actual lie on in the morning.

Many a civil servant working 40 hours to take that home after going to work bright and early.

    PUP is €300 now.
I am not jealous at all, I'm good friends with most of the team that are still working. About 15 temps got let go so we keep in touch too, it was a very happy workplace! I worked throughout Covid for €390 a week, so €300 is not hugely different. I also worked shifts so I was at my desk every morning at 7am, up at 5.45am.

I don't like on in bed as I suffer from depression and far prefer getting up early and going to work. I live alone so working is a form of therapy for me. I really miss my job. Whether my friends are wealthy or not , work or not, they are still my friends. I couldn't live their lives so I am not jealous. However they have a very different viewpoint to me on restrictions and lockdown, simply because it hasn't greatly affected them.

theres a lot of anger on this thread ....chill a bit... no need for all the bad language....have a lovely evening Niner Leprauchan :):)

you mean like... FG putting election posters hours before announcing an election? Who would've thought they'd do something like that xD

    They're all perfect saints. :D:D:D:D:D

Plenty of members of NPHET and they may not all agree with Holohan’s hard line approach
