I don't know, I used to always collect mine. Ask the vendor to package it per order and then bulk pack the lot. Save you the hassle.

I would suggest we pay in advance for the coffee and shipping costs as it will be a considerable outlay with so many participants.

I'm sure this will be ok for all?

Ok so I've emailed Dear Green and they are pretty slow to come back, so I also emailed Tim Wendleboe in Norway, they got back to me pretty much straight away.
Hi Hodors Appletart! Thank you for reaching out! If the orders will be 7-10 kgs you could set up a wholesale account and order ithe website. Once you have done that I will go in and approve it and you will have full access to the website with all the wholesale products & prices, as well as be able to place orders directly.

A little but about our wholesale process:

We take orders in on Mondays and then plan our production for that week. We roast to order on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and send out with DHL or Fedex on the same day to ensure only fresh coffee arrives to you. The absolute deadline for ordering is Wednesday at 12:00, so that we can schedule & prep our final Thursday roast day - but we prefer orders in on Mondays so that we can send international orders on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, allowing more time for shipping to arrive before the weekend. Shipping charges are automatically calculated at ‘checkout’ in our site. As Norway is outside of the EU we won’t charge any Norwegian VAT on your order, but you will likely have to pay duties at import.

Minimum order is 5kg and we pack in either 250gm or 1kg bags - same price. We flush the coffee bags with nitrogen and vacuum seal them when we’re packing, so the unopened coffee has a long shelf life. We say the optimal time for usage is from one week after roasting up until six week. Some of our customers order every week, some every fortnight, others once a month - whatever suits your usage.

If you have any queries you can contact me directly or the office

Just had my account approved, looks like the coffee is about €36-40 a kilo (there's a Geisha at about €90) before VAT and Shipping

VAT is what? 20% which brings it to €43-48 per kilo or €10-12/250g

    Shipping would be about €70

that means about €14-15 per 250g bag for an order of 8kg

Seems a little pricey to me, not much discount off their standard retail prices (effectively free shipping)...but then again I have never been part of a bulk buy like this.

I'm in depending on price. I would think parcel motel is the easiest way of distributing.
Giving people a choice to collect could be messy and time consuming for the organiser.

I've done something similar on other Boards forums (a few years ago mind you) for around 100 people or so, the way we did it was people volunteered to collect on behalf of others for local meetups, and organised it amongst themselves to try and limit the amount of hassle the organiser went through. It's best to setup just one or two opportunities for people to collect at the same time, but I'm not sure how viable that is given the current climate.

Postage was done through another member who was working for fastway so lucky enough it was just a case of him dropping off bags and filling out the addresses for orders, but similar could be done with the likes of Parcel Motel I suppose, or even An Post. Those sealable bags are cheap enough I think. Postage was paid up at the time of the order as well.

I've a pricelist from Dear Green that I'll stick up in a while

single origins prices from £4.50 to £7.50 250g (sterling) (Brazilian cheaper, African more expensive) they have a couple of blends too

they'll package in 250g which is great, I just need to price shipping from them.

I second this, would be interested if we can possibly get from the UK or Europe.

    Some suggestions:
    - Monmouth Coffee in London is fantastic and great variety.
    - Old Spike London is also very good.
    - Workshop Coffee
    - Square Mile

The idea of the group buy was to access normally inaccessible coffees. I don't mind what way we proceed but if it's from the UK you're probably better off ordering individually and using parcel motel if required rather that putting Hordor to a load of hassle.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,977 Mod ✭✭✭✭Planet X

Kinda the reason I didn't sign this time.

Went in with Adrian522 a few years ago when he kindly did an order, I was just beginning my foray into coffee.

Don't see the point of a group buy now seeing that you can get Worldwide coffee beans here in Ireland now.......and probably then (about 5 years ago?).

    But........do carry on.

I agree here. The Tim Wendleboe roastery in Norway (and similar) is what's piquing my interest. I'm not into this for saving money per se, but getting something that would be ordinarily inaccessible buying just a kilo.

So did I (Thanks Adrian, and Donncha before him), but like the idea of co-op purchases, and hopefully reducing postage costs (while potentially taking advantage of escalated postage). Good for the forum too, to be able to have a bit of banter about different beans/roasts.

Happy to help out with distribution around South Dublin (in line with government restrictions!).

    Agree with the above....

I order a good bit from the UK as it is, but interested in trying some other, more "exotic" roasters, not that I know of too many!

Ha! I've never ordered from them and was just going by a list from last years Sprudge awards. They got recognition for notable roastery but looking at it again now the category is broader than actual roasting so not so sure about them. As Mr M said if Hodors going to all the hassle of organising this I think we should look further than the UK.
