I have a HKC alarm for about 15 years and recently a shock sensor has gone faulty. This is the third one to go bad, one approximately every 4 or 5 years. Is this a normal failure rate or are HKC sensors not great? Can they be replaced with a different make? Thanks

Shock sensors, just like any electronic component have a life span. There are mechanical moving parts within these sensors and they wear out after a while.

Count yourself lucky if over the space of 15 years that all you have so few gone faulty.
HTC's current shock sensors are the best around but please do not expect them to last forever
